About this audiobook
FROM THE #1 BESTSELLING AUTHOR OF THE HARRY BOSCH AND LINCOLN LAWYER SERIES
An electrifying standalone thriller that breaks all the rules!
Death is reporter Jack McEvoy's beat: his calling, his obsession. But this time, death brings McEvoy the story he never wanted to write--and the mystery he desperately needs to solve. A serial killer of unprecedented savagery and cunning is at large. His targets: homicide cops, each haunted by a murder case he couldn't crack. The killer's calling card: a quotation from the works of Edgar Allan Poe. His latest victim is McEvoy's own brother. And his last...may be McEvoy himself.

Why are people dying?
This book is absolutely fantastic. - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Really good story and plot. Just a few too many loose ends that were not tied up well in the ending.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Well written, well researched. A scintillating adventure from beginning to end
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Too many twists and turns. Not enough grit and heart, like Michael's other books.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Fantastic book, amazingly well written and pretty well read too. I don't normally read detective novels but this one gripped me from the start.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5A good read Michael Connelly never disappoints in his storytelling.

With lots of twists and turns - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5My favorite part of the book was the ending. I thoroughly enjoyed the book.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5The plot, the characters, the weaving in and out. Brilliant
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I "read" for enjoyment and I enjoyed this book. Will have to admit, I never would have guessed "who did it".
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5It was an interesting book - suspenseful and well written. A few parts contained morbid details that were unnecessary and detracted from the story.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This story has some interesting twists. Definitely worth a listen.
- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5So boring. The narrator did not change his monotone voice from one character to the other.
So not Michael Connolly’s usual talent. I am a huge reader of MC’s books. I gave up on this time one. - Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5If you look past the ridiculousness of the typical underdog main character sleeping with a out-of-this-world beautiful woman a day afrer meeting her, all while chasing the killer of his BROTHER.. which is pretty awful, the book is actually good. Worth reading. The plot is good and unusual.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I first discovered the writings of Michael Connelly through his books on Harry Bosch. But this book is a stark departure from his Bosch series. It is a stark gripping psychological thriller. It is full of twists and turns that .explores the dark side of the mind. It is one part FBI procedural, psychological study of the effects of child abuse, serial killers and the part that guilt plays both in our lives and the way we recognize ourselves and those we interact with. Enthralling read.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Great book, great reader. The parts where the focus is on the perpetrators is chilling; the anguish of the protagonist is felt. Well written-another great book by Connelly.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Excellent story telling combined with a good gravelly voice makes this both an exciting listen and an enthralling one. Highly recommended.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Excellent whodunnit by the master. Although I didnt really warm to the protagonist Jack, I was thoroughly engaged throughout. Pacing was excellent and the characters were really well drawn and real. I experienced this book through audiobooks and I loved it.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This book took so many twists and turns,it was the first book in a long time I didn’t guess the ending. I love Michael Connelly, his books are great.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Pretty good but seems to ne an early work of his.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Very good book, with an interesting twist. Can't always have a happy ending.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Connelly’s finest work, this is the standard to which I compare all other books in this genre. How this isn’t a major film release is beyond me.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Interesting plot!! Strong characters. Well written. Typical Connelly - action packed until the end!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Great listen! Fooled my all the way to the very end!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Another great michael connely book to listen to on audio
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Excellent , interesting how Connelly creates and interlinks stories.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I expected a great story but each twist caught me by surprise. More please
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5The end did not explain how this man could sneak up an seasoned cops and commit these crimes. The reason why was difficult to understand. Two tyenold with codene wound not make a grown man paralyzed. The build up was interesting. The end was very weak
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Didn’t want to put it down is a great story
