About this audiobook
The temple has been burned.
Grandmaster is dead.
The only five survivors have scattered like the wind.
Alone. For the first time. No brothers, no mentors, no teachers-just eleven-year-old Malao, the "monkey," all by himself in the woods. Malao loves to make jokes and fool around, but now the only home he has ever known is burning and his four surviving temple brothers have disappeared. Suddenly nothing seems as funny as it used to.
Grandmaster told Malao to discover the secrets of his past, but for a monkey nothing is ever simple. He hasn't traveled far when he stumbles into a battle between a group of bandits and an army of monkeys. One of the bandits looks strangely familiar, and the monkeys are led by a large, white, one-eyed male, who seems to know Malao.
In this second volume of the Five Ancestors series, Jeff Stone continues the exciting story of five youngsters destined for greatness-if they can only survive!

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Very secret-opening, informational, action packed
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5A great young adults martial arts tale
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I'm not certain how I feel about this book now that I have finished it. In the beginning I found myself feeling bombarded with information, either as a rehashing of what had happened in previous books or as a way of hurrying along to the next part of the plot. I felt almost as if I was being pushed along on this maddening experience without getting much chance to breathe. Once we reached an actual plot point for the Snake character, however, things calmed down a little and I settled into reading. There were several times where I felt characters were still being thrown at me and the twists and turns of the plot were very reminiscent of a snake slithering along in the woods, but on the whole I eventually found a comfortable place with the journey the book was putting me on.I deeply enjoy the series and found the end of the book left me hanging, wanting to know what more there is to discover about each of the animals to come. Hopefully there will be a little more balance and a little less rush in the next book of the series. Either way, this is an action-packed, fun read for martial arts fans and I can't wait to see what happens next.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5possibly my favorite in the series, snake is silent and cool and calculating. best of all, the plot in this third-of-five has me craving more.
