      A bit silly, but fun and irresistibly entertaining, just like the first two in the series. A nice change from the grim, humourless dystopian fiction that seems to be dominating the YA genre at the moment. Also, two words: LORD GRECO.

      Great continuation of the story! It is similar to the first two but not so much so that it is boring. There is still some really great suspense and intrigue. I love how this one ended and hope the next two books are just as great!

      Summary: Gabi and Lia Betarrini have learned to control their time travel, and they return from medieval Italy to save their father from his tragic death in modern times.Personal Reaction:This has become one of my favorite series. It was packed full of adventure, romance, and many twists and turns. There was so much conflict and thrilling adventure contained within its pages that it felt like I hardly had a chance to breathe… and I loved every minute of it. It is a true testament to the love of friends and family and faith. The characters are the type of people you admire and who inspire you to be a better person. They are smart, loyal, brave, have strong personalities, morals, and are caring. I also liked that this series was interesting and intriguing without being crude. It was a clean read that I couldn't put down.Classroom Extension: Would recommend to YA book readers and would have it any MS or HS library. Connect to Black Plague, 1400's, Sienna, etc.

      I have been so surprised at how much I loved this series, that it was no question that I would read book 3. I don't normally read historical fiction, but I had heard such positive things about this series and saw it on the shelf at my library, it was like fate, meant to be, because I am so glad to take the trip through time with Gabi and Lia and was excited to find a time in my reading schedule for it. It is so good to be back in Gabi's head and in the times, and it touched me even more that now they have the whole family. You get a good sense of what has already happened since they are there with their dad, and everything is new to him. Gabi is amazing and strong as usual, but we get to see even more vulnerability in her in this one. I think that is major character growth because she realizes its okay to ask for help and accept it. I loved the relationship too between her and her parents in this one. There is this balance of respect, deference, and above all love and wanting the best for each other. I will say that for a bit I wasn't too pleased about the seeming appearance of a strange love triangle, but eventually I had to accept that it really did strengthen the plot and ultimately show Gabi what her heart truly desired and a means for her safety. What I longed for even more was the reunion of Marcello and Gabi, as well as Lia and Luka since they have something budding there and I hope it turns into more, but I have to know either way. And boy did I eventually get it. I adore that these two are gentlemen. Yes, I love bad boys as much as the next person, but I also love a man who will put himself out there for their woman, and who will woo her and treat her like a lady. Tomas was a new favorite in this one, and so glad that I got to meet him. He's an excommunicated priest but given work by Rodolfo, and Tomas and Gabi get to know one another. I admire his faith but also how he took Gabi under his wing and helped her see the truth of some things. I know there will be a fourth, but am super pleased with the way that this one ended. It somehow gave me all it could in resolution and what I wanted for the characters. I just really hope that in the next one (and yes, super glad that she decided to write it) that the issue of the plague will be further dealt with. It feels like it has been on the back burner simmering for two books and thought that I would see more resolution or that to be the big conflict in this one, but it wasn't. Bottom Line: Good installment in a fun and fast trip through time.

      I don't know what it is about this series. I find them incredibly boring during the beginning (when everything is going well) and have the hardest time getting into the story. However, once the action picks up, I just can't put it down. I think it took me a couple of weeks to a couple of months to read the beginning of each of these books, and about a day to finish the last 2/3 of them. Not sure how I feel about that, but by the end I loved this third book in the River of Time series. I think I will continue to read any more that come out in the future and just force myself through the beginning.

      Read the full Review at Witchmag's BoekenplankOn the first of September I was very happy, Torrent was finally available! Only to find out that Amazon hadn’t put the Kindle version online yet… I actually had to wait a few days more for this great ending!A lot happened this time in the story and so quickly, that I had a bit of a problem with keeping up. Although I got the feeling that the story was a repeat of what happened in Waterfall and Cascade. The Firenzi’s are making trouble, Gabi tries to help, fights a bit, flees for her enemies till Marcello saves her and all is well again. Okay, that’s not exactly how the story went, but it is the red line in this book, just like the other two books.Not that the story was any less fun to read, but it became predictable. And I don’t like predictable… Of course there some unexpected twists, that I didn’t see coming at all and some upset me very much…Gabriella has grown a lot compared to the previous book, even though she continues to act first and think afterwards. Oh well it’s probably her personality. I continue to admire her for wanting to protect her friends and family at all costs and her love for Marcello. I don’t know if I would have done the same if I was in her shoes.Marcello *deep sigh* he continues to be the knight in shining armor, although he has some very old-fashioned beliefs about how women should behave. Thankfully he allows Gabi to be herself, otherwise she would have started a rebellion, I just know it ;) . I still don’t have a clue how old he is. Does anyone have an idea?Overall rating 3 hearts. The story was great, but as I said a little too predictable. I like it when books continue to surprise me and although there were some very surprising moments in this book, the red thread was too visible for me.       This is the third book in the River of Time series and was an excellent conclusion to this series. There are two more novellas after this book called Bourne and Tributary. I loved how the central themes of the book are love and happiness despite all the war that is going on. Gabi and Lia save their father from death in the present and travel with him and their mother back to medieval Italy. When they return they find that the nearby castle is occupied by Marcello’s enemy and rumors are that Fortuno is being held captive. Gabi and family must find Marcello and try to bring peace to realm. Gabi is a tough heroine, she came off as a bit unrealistically tough at times even given the fact that she has sword fighting skills. At one point she is wielding a broadsword and another she climbs up a wall; both would require incredible strength. Still I enjoyed reading about her, she is easy to engage with and definitely a good character. Marcello comes off as a bit too alpha male for me at times as well. Gabi and him definitely don’t see eye to eye on her position in his castle and his life. There is a love conquers all theme to this book, but in reality I wonder if Gabi and Marcello would be able to resolve their differences in a peacetime scenario.There were a couple small things that bothered me about the story. All of the characters were a bit too noble for a war situation; I mean Gabi is captured and surrounded by soldiers yet the idea of her "honor" being compromised is only mentioned in passing. Since this is YA I guess we can expect a lot of the violence seen in a war situation to be glossed over...but at times it was all a bit too roses and daffodils for me. Also there is a lot more of Gabi begging God for help and then getting that help. Yes, she does have to take situations into her own hands at times. I hate it though when characters beg to God to fix their problems...it's even worse when that ends up being the answer to their problems. I prefer characters to grasp their own fates and not depend on God to get them out of situations. This isn't too overwhelming but it is definitely more prominent in this book than the last two books in the series.Aside from the above, the book in incredibly well written and very easy to read. It is also fairly predictable. The writing is very beautiful though and I enjoyed the historical setting. Bergren does an excellent job of having the girls talk to each other in modern language and stick to more traditional language when talking to other characters in the period. I love the characters and love how the whole family is on this adventure together. Overall a satisfying conclusion to this series. The book is beautifully written and the characters easy to engage with. There is a bit more of the characters begging God to solve their problems which I didn’t enjoy. At times Gabi comes off as too tough and Marcello as too alpha male. But aside from that I really enjoyed the setting and the story. This whole series is recommended to fans of YA historical fantasy.

      (Note: This review is for both Cascade and Torrent)In short: Though I needed more depth than the River of Time series by Lisa T. Bergren was able to give me, I do actually recommend this series if you're looking for a fun, fast-paced read.The River of Time series has received so much hype and positive reviews that I just had to jump on the bandwagon and read it too. And I can see why this series is so popular. The extremely fast pace, the non-stop action, the swoon-worthy boys men, the feisty and brave heroines - the River of Time series is Entertainment with a capital "E". At no point is there ever any scene that is boring and at no point is there ever any lull in the non-stop adventures of the Betarrini Family.At times, however, I felt the series was actually a bit too fast-paced for me - and this was ultimately the major factor in every little problem I had with the series. Plot points could have been better developed, characters and character relationships could have been further explored, and the time travel aspect could have been better explained, if only the series had slowed up the pace a bit more and included these things. Action scene after action scene is really fun, but I needed some filler to fully flesh out the story. And I really needed to know why Gabi and fam thought it was okay to completely mess with world history.Something that really bothered me about the series, which I believe stemmed from the extremely fast pacing and not enough time spent developing the characters, is that Gabi and Lia kill A LOT of people and feel no remorse for it. We see them experiencing some grief after their first human kills in Waterfall, and then NOTHING in Cascade and Torrent. I realize that they're in a war situation and killing in defense is inevitable and I'm not asking for an all out Angst Fest here, but I needed for these young girls who grew up in the 21st century to feel something about these countless people they were killing, especially in a series where there are several passages where Gabi reflects on the value of human life. And though this has nothing to do with this series being considered Christian Fiction - because if you are a GOOD person, you will feel remorse for killing someone no matter what your religion - I was kind of under the impression that God wasn't down with killing humans.Am I taking this series too seriously? Probably. But if that isn't an indication that what is supposed to be a light, fun read isn't the type of read for me, then I don't know what is. I needed more depth than the River of Time series was able to give me. This all being said however, I do actually recommend this series. All my complaints are obviously highly subjective and I think the vast majority of people would actually really enjoy spending an action-filled time with a cast of fun characters in Lisa T. Bergren's River of Time series.

It fit the series to the exact - giving me what I was expecting and yet totally shocking me with every movie. I mean, it was craziness! And I had no idea that Gabi's and Marcello's love would be so sorely tested...CHARACTER NOTES -Gabi is amazing. She is not only a fantastic daughter and sister, but also a fierce warrior and passionate, faithful lover. And, most importantly, she grows to be a wonderful woman of God. I respect her even more than a lot of my most respected heroines because of this. And if you combine that with everything else, you get...amazing. Even with her faults, she's just the best. Anyone would want her as a friend.Marcello...and Rodolfo. Where to begin with those two? In the last book, Cascade, I felt like Marcello was more...real. And I was fascinated by Greco. This time, Marcello was only in half of the book. The rest of it, Gabi was with Greco. And I totally fell for Mr. Tall, Dark and Handsome. All. The. Way. I understand why Gabi didn't, of course (she and Marcello - totally and completely!), but if I were Gabi and I hadn't already pledged my heart, making a decision between the two would have been hard. By the end of the book, I definitely (finally!) fell completely for Marcello, but I still love Greco. A LOT. I want more of his story!! I think the two men tie...or, well...Oh I don't know!Before moving on: I loved Marcello's growling. OMG (fanning myself)! You'll only know if you read the book, so hurry up already! Marcello definitely had me blushing often... Such a MAN!Lia, Mom and Dad are great characters - kicking butt and saving the day. The ink markings between the covers of this book contain an adventure totally of its own originality and spark and element. I mean, just, wow. And wow again. So many twists and turns in the story - no end to the madness. I got to the point where I found myself asking, "Could this get any worse?!" I doubt it could have. Dang. I had no idea what the turnout would be.And yet it was perfect. Any different would have felt...off. Ohmygosh I was just so happy with those last four or five chapters that tied everything into a giant bow of beautifulness. (And still left room for the story to take off again!)Lisa does an amazing job describing events. There were quite a few scenes that were so dang powerful - either because of the dialogue or the descriptions. Either way there was just enough of everything to give the story the perfect touch, one that, in turn, has affected the lives of many (seriously, I view these books as life-alteringly cool) and will do so for more, I am sure.I loved the awesome faith questions asked in here. Gabi struggles, asking herself, and others, questions about God's existence, His sovereignty, and it was incredible to see those questions answered and to see how they affected Gabi and everyone else.SUMMING IT UP -Powerful. In every way, this book had me grasping the book for dear life. And when I set it down I found I was pumped and ready to live. I love books that make me want to jump up and climb a mountain, or bike cross-country, or swim and ocean. Or write a book. Books that inspire are always my favorite - and that is exactly what Waterfall, Cascade, and Torrent are. Inspirational. Favorites.FOR THE PARENTS -Some kissing, passionate but only a few details. Two of the characters get married, and only detail-less kissing beforehand on their first night together. So clean - and a beautiful example of healthy, faithful, passionate love. Recommended 13+

      Lisa T. Bergren has once again brought us into the middle ages with the third book in the River of Time Series. Although I received an ARC I was unable to get y review up before now. When it arrived my mother TOOK it from my desk and read it then passed it on to her best friend at church. I finally got it back. She loved the book as much as she did the first two. She was glad things happened the way they did but felt like maybe there should be a fourth book.I on the other hand was not discouraged when my mother told me most of the plot. I am one of those people who must read it for myself. She was right, Lisa did an awesome job with this third book. I am waiting for a copy I have ordered to put on my shelves at school since my students are already into the series. In this book we pick up where we left off in Cascade but have many more twists and turns thrown in. I really wish I could tell you what they were, but if I did that would give away the main plot. Just know that if you like all things medieval and romance and loved the characters from the first two books that you really must read this one.

      In Torrent we join the entire Betarrini family as they travel back to 14th-Century Italy. But how long have they been gone, and what is the state of Castelo Forelli and all of those they left behind? Torrent is an excellent conclusion to the River of Time trilogy. So many things happened in this book that I want to gush on about, but I will restrain myself to avoid spoilage. Let’s just say that I enjoyed this book as much, if not more, than the other two in the series. Torrent is a well written blend of action, adventure, tragedy, romance, and real life lessons. The story was one that you enjoyed until the last page and left you wanting so much more (not in a bad way)! Characterization continues to excel, and I believe that I could read about the characters from this series for ages and never get tired of them. I enjoyed watching each character grow and develop in different ways. Gabi continues to bring strength to the novel, with her loyalty to doing what she feels is right. Even with unstable pathways ahead of her; wishy-washy Gabi is not. The emotions riding throughout the story felt natural, real and absorbing; I was heartbroken and in tears in the first 100 pages, and on the edge of my seat or tied up in knots for the rest of them. The plot had a few unexpected twists, which kept things intriguing and prevented the pace from stalling. I loved the romance between Gabi and Marcello, they just constantly made me smile. Needless to say I was really happy with this novel and highly recommend it. The only error I felt this book had was that it ended. I need a book for each character; Luca, Marcello, Lia, Rodolpho, etc, etc! (please ignore my shameless plug for more books – unless your name is Lisa of course :).)       If you haven't yet started reading the River of Time series (first one is Waterfall) then you are most certainly missing out on what has quickly become a favorite of mine. The series seems to be taking over the blogosphere and I only hope it's spreading outside of it because the entire world needs to read this series! There's not one single thing I would change in it.Lisa has pulled me into Gabby's world completely. So much so I'm dreaming of Marcello (and even Luca) myself. I can't believe how much I feel like a teenager when I read these books! Seriously, remember that fluttery feeling when you had a crush on a boy? Well, I'm feeling it... yep, definitely feeling the flutter.It's not only the guys that have stolen my heart though. It's all the characters. Their bravery, compassion and sense of right. It's the setting. The gorgeous Italian country side, the villas, the castello's, the ancient cities... so gorgeous! It's everything in these books that has stolen my heart and I will be recommending them for years to come. These books might be romantic and beautiful but they are packed with danger and action. Gabby nearly dies several times (in each book!) and each time barely escapes with her life. But yet instead of becoming more afraid she only gets braver! She knows who she loves and cares about and she'll do anything to protect them. Her entire family is that way! You'd never guess that people from modern day could ever do the things they do, but they do it, they do everything they possibly can to help and to save others. This is a time travel series and most of it takes place in medieval Italy. So I know a few haven't read the books because they aren't into 'historical fiction'. Let me try to ease your fears. First of all, these are modern day girls so you'll still hear slang and pop culture references. They also think like modern day girls even though they slip into the medieval ways incredibly well, at least in appearances. Some historical fiction books are weighed down with description or historical facts. These books aren't. We get a clear picture of everything, but yet the entire things flows very fast, and very smooth. So somehow Lisa has slipped in enough descriptions for us to see it, but hasn't even made us aware. I think even people who aren't fans of historical fiction will enjoy these books. At least I hope I'm not wrong there....More specific details on this book...don't read this portion if you haven't yet read Waterfall and Cascade.I was so anxious to see how things worked out for this one! If you'll recall in Cascade they recovered her father in the future and brought him back in time. This book picks up immediately where the last one left off and is immediately packed with action. This book may have had more action than the other two! But it had some very unexpected twists and turns. By now we know that things are not going to be easy, but sometimes it's hard on us, the readers, as well. And I have to say, I did a bit of crying in this one. So keep some kleenex near. The romance... I'm afraid to say to anything because I don't want to give anything away. Lets just say that things get complicated. Then they get amazing. I was definitely satisfied. And I can say there's one more hottie to add to my list of hotties. And I really hope that Lisa writes more about that certain hottie. He needs his own set of books, that's for sure!I couldn't put this stinking book down! I read it continuously until I couldn't keep my eyes open and then the second I woke up I started reading until I finished it. It was freaking fantastic and I'm just sad it's over.Final thoughts...If you haven't read the books, read them! Get everyone you know to read them! We need Lisa to continue the series with Luca and Lia's story and then write a few more with Lord Greco's story cause I really think he needs his own as well.Love, love, love this series!       Right now, there are 2 types of people in the world: 1) those who have read The River of Time series and 2) those who have never read it. If you are in that second group, then please do, these books are epic. (SPOILER ALERT=some spoilers)Okay, now for those of you in that first group, get ready to feel like you will burst from all of the emotional energy you will have while reading this book. It is pure epicness. Even though the central goal in the beginning is to get Fortino back. That is just a small battle in the whole war. Actually this book made me realize how big this really was. In Waterfall, we aren’t really aware of just how high the stakes are raised, everything is tense, but life does go on. In Cascade, we are made aware of the waging war, but it still doesn’t hit us. It’s not until book three, Torrent, that we fully acknowledge the scale. In Waterfall, Gabi is brought into the past, unprepared, and even a bit naive (not much though). Throughout Waterfall and Cascade she learns that in order to survive and protect the ones she loves, she has to make choices and sacrifices. Almost every one of them are not easy. Most are dangerous and life threatening. But through all these experiences she learns that life is short, and is meant to be lived. Gabi is tested, physically, emotionally, and spiritually. In Torrent, Gabi starts to feel the stress from everything she has done. All the exertion, all the fighting, everything pushes her to her limits. What I love most about this series is Ms. Bergren’s ability to really pull the reader into the book. Every chapter had me screaming, crying, smiling, and jumping out of my seat. I started this book while on a plane and I think the kid sitting next to me thought I was crazy. I was so into this book that I completely forgot where I was and started tearing up, making exclamations out loud, and moving around in my seat when the energy from all the suspense was too much to take sitting still. There were so many of these moments throughout the book, that it never lags. The pace is perfect! Another reason why I love this series, is the characters. All the characters grow and change throughout the books. As a reader, we are only keyed into Gabi’s thoughts and feelings. Like every normal teenager, she is constantly questioning everything: her faith, her relationships, her morals, etc. Ms. Bergren takes the reader on the adventure with Gabi, which is so cool! The Plot: Ms. Bergren doesn’t disappoint at all. After reading Waterfall, I had no clue how Cascade would hold up. Well, it exceeded all my expectations and more. Then, I began to feel the same about Torrent. How would this epic series end? With a bang? Or with disappointment? I was seriously hoping to love the ending. And….I DID! I was constantly left guessing what would happen next; Torrent was completely unpredictable. In fact, when books get too suspenseful, I usually end up sneaking a peak at the end (please don’t yell at me!). It took everything, and I mean everything, I had not to do this. I love this series too much, to ruin it for myself. The action, was a huge bonus in this book. Seriously, it is action-packed up until the very end. I’m not exaggerating. Just when you think its all over, its not. Which is GREAT! Now onto our swoon-worthy heroes. Dear Marcello, ahhh, my love. I love him! I do, but about half-way through, I decided to accept the fact that Marcello and Gabi were made for each other. So my sights moved onto Greco. Oh My Gosh! Lord Greco is now my favorite swoon-worthy Italian man in this series. He completely shocked me with his loyalty. I didn’t really like him in Cascade, but I loved him in Torrent. And now I’m gushing just thinking about him. Ahhh. Ms. Bergren, you are my hero! I love this series. In fact, the second I finished Torrent, I said “This series is better than Twilight!” (Please Twi-hards, don’t kill me!) I love Twilight, but the writing, plot, characters, and setting of The River of Time series were all so much better. This series is definitely one of my favorite series EVER. I can’t recommend this these books enough! It deserves 5 BILLION Kisses!

      I can't even begin to say how much I love this series!! I sat down to read this book and I don't think I ever wanted to come back. I loved the way Ms. Bergren wrote this book. She added such great elements and many surprises that had me gasping for my dear life!First off, the story line and plot pacing is amazing! The story line picks up right where it left off and you are off to another world. With new elements, Ms. Bergren sweeps the reader off their feet before I can even finish the first page. I love that the plot pacing is perfect. Everything is handed to the reader little by little, that that the reader can feel and read all the characters emotions.OMG! Lord Greco! Have I told you how Ms. Bergen is able to create such wonderful and HOT characters? This guy left my heart racing and swooning! I feel immediately for this guy. I mean, who wouldn't. Let's just say that the love interest gets hotter and better. I adore that Ms. Bergren wrote the characters so unique yet fulfilling. They all had they own destinies, their own paths that each one must follow.What makes me love this story even more is that, that it is just a great story. It's clean, fun, action-filled and something that I can read over and over again. It has an enduring love in it, faith, and so many Italian hotties that I can't even keep count. This is one amazing story and a awesome writer. Torrent is a must read! The River of Time series is a must read! You must read all of them. I can tell you that you will fall in love and never look back!

      I'm a FAN for life! This was by far, the BEST series I've read in a long time. Wow! After reading Torrent, I still wanted more! Gabi and Lia are still awesome and Marcello and Luca are to die for (Oh my). I must admit to swooning for R.G. (total surprise). I laughed out loud, when I read 'hoo-chee-mama' and 'skanky wench'. Torrent has such intense moments. I found myself gripping the book and reading as fast as I could! I firmly believe, any fan of time travel / romance will love this entire series. Ohhhh Lisa... Please write more books to connect with this series :)
