About this audiobook
Humankind is spread across three thousand light years in a myriad of worlds and habitats known as the Human Entelechy. Linked by a network of wormholes with Earth at its center, it is the world Captain RJ Stone awakens to after a twelve-thousand-year cryogenic suspension.
Stone soon finds himself commanding the maiden voyage of the first spacecraft to break the light speed barrier: the FTL Further. In search of extraterrestrial intelligence, the landing party explores a distant pulsar only to be taken prisoner by the bloodthirsty Iron Mass, a religious sect exiled from the Entelechy millennia before. Now Stone and his crew must escape while they try to solve the riddle of the planet’s network of stone towers that may be proof of the intelligence they’ve come to find.
The first in critically acclaimed author Chris Roberson’s scintillating new series, Further: Beyond the Threshold is a fascinating ride to the farthest reaches of the imagination.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5The story progressed better than expected, although the character development was a little lack lustre.

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5In a word, "meh". The story seemed like a mashup of Farscape and Futurama, jumbled in with some cultural appropriation and a lot of corny underdeveloped characters. Much of the dialogue felt flat and I kept waiting for the story to get better, but it never seemed to reach escape velocity.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Buck Rogers meets Star Trek meets. . . When RJ Stone is awakened several centuries after boarding an exploratory starship, he finds a whole new world waiting for his exploration. In this world, many animals have been “uplifted” to sentience and several galaxies connected. And, the inhabitants have created a faster than lightspeed ship that will venture further into space at his command. This was a fun, funny book that played with all of the usual space travel tropes without taking itself too seriously all while providing good pacing and suspense.
