    About this audiobook

    While never convicted of his wife's murder, Rick was never exonerated either. Not by the police. Not by the media. Not even by himself. Eight years later, police suspicion and his own guilt remain over his responsibility in his wife's death.

      Uhhh this was a journey filled with adrenaline! Every page bringing a question who and why? It was like a watching the action movie! I loved it!

      I found Yesterday’s Echo a guilty pleasure. Restauranter Rick Cahill meets seductive Melody at work and is soon on the hook for murder. Sure, Rick Cahill is simple and dumb. All the other characters, save for the dog, are frankly unlikable. The dialogue is oftentimes flat and sometimes repetitive. But author Coyle put in some twists and turns in the plot that kept this reader’s attention. That and some decent La Jolla and San Diego points of interest round out Yesterday’s Echo’s harsher points. I look forward to seeing how the Cahill series grows from this first story.Recommended for those looking for a quick whodunit featuring police corruption and tarnished Vegas bosses.

      This was a fun introduction to Rick Cahill, former policeman turned barkeeper. In this, book one Rick helps a woman in trouble at his bar and subsequently ends up in one big mess of trouble. I will definitely check out book two.

      This is a first novel by the author in 2013, set in the La Jolla / San Diego area. It became the start of a series. It came to me highly recommended and I was pleasantly surprised. It's a crime story, a mystery, noirish and a bit hard-boiled in style (OK maybe more than a bit, but in the best of that pulpy tradition updated for today) and I liked it. There are a lot of familiar tropes here, even for someone like me who is not widely read in the genre. The author however has put together a good story that caught my interest pretty quick and made me as a reader want to know more about the tarnished ex-cop Rick Cahill. Love gets all tangled up in the makings of the story, but this is clearly crime fiction. If you like twists, this is twisty too. And yesterday does echo and the story gets wrapped up nicely.It also has a great opening sentence: "The first time I saw her, she made me remember and she made me forget."Not quite a "page-turner", but I didn't want to put it down and I read it in two days which for me is rather good for a 300 page novel. It has nice short chapters which is something I like for reading where I have easy breaks to step away. I'd recommend this to those who like stories in the detective fiction/police/mystery genre. I will certainly be reading more from this author.

      Read 9/16. Found when looking for Night Tremors (2015 Shamus Award finalist). Former cop Rick Cahill tries to help a woman suspected of murder, an echo of his own situation earlier with his wife's murder. This goes wrong, he becomes the suspect, and it gets complicated. Good story, good writing. Worth following.

Rick has been left with little choices, as former young hotshot cop in Santa Barbara. Someone murdered his wife and fingers were pointed at him. Charges were dropped, but he lost his job and out from jail, has began working at a bar/restaurant, he hopes to own one day (Muldoon’s Steak House). Now he finds himself tangled up with a reporter and a dark past and dangers are lurking from everywhere. Of course, it turns into a high profile case. His dad was also a former cop and a corrupt one. Not a stellar view from the La Jolla PD. Presently, eight years later, he is still haunted by his wife Coleen’s death, as the media was all over it, and now he meets manipulative Melody Malana, a reporter who knew him from his earlier days. He finds himself in her bed and soon thereafter in the middle of another murder investigation. He always finds himself in a lose-lose situation; however, is determined to dig his way out. There is more than one person after her. Melody is arrested for murder and asks for Rick’s help. His first indication is to stay clear; however, Rick does not understand the word "NO". Anything involving danger and obstacles, he is in the center with guns blazing. In the midst of doing so¸ he now becomes a suspect and target. The bad guys come after him and the only two things he has left, his bar job, and his beloved dog, Midnight are now threatened. Someone wants their past to stay buried and Rick is trying to uncover, putting himself in even more danger.From sex, crimes, a dark past, politics, corruption, and videos, Rick risks his own life and reputation for a woman who is hiding from a past for a roller coaster ride and a whodunit crime mystery. Matt Coyle is an author to follow, with a superb kick-ass series! After receiving an ARC of Night Tremors, I immediately purchased the audio of Yesterday's Echo (Rick Cahill #1), narrated by Nick Podehl, delivering an intense and suspenseful performance, prior to reading the second. NIGHT TREMORS (6/2/15) Matt Coyle, returns with his engrossing and complex second installment of crime thriller (Rick Cahill #2), a fierce comeback, with grit, tenacity, suspense, and intensity --with a flawed hero with his own demons; one you will you will root for, every step of the way. Recommend reading both in order. An unstoppable main character, leaving you anxiously awaiting the next in this exciting noir crime series. (love the California setting)! Fans of classic hard-boiled PI detective novels will enjoy this one. As related to the hard-boiled genre, the main protagonist goes from victim, suspect, perpetrator, and always in self-destructive mode. As typical of Noir fiction, Rick seems to always be in the middle of something illegal, dirty cops, or political corruption, on a daily basis--as you will find true to form, in the next book.

      Rick Cahill is still haunted eight years later about his wife's death. The police department is positive that he did it, but don't have enough evidence to get a conviction. He is set free, but lingering doubts from the police department shadow him everyday. His own dad "retired " from the police after they believed he was corrupt . Rick has a sour taste for the police now and decides it is time for a fresh start. He turns to an old buddy named Turk who runs a restaurant. They soon become partners in the restaurant and Rick starts to sense a purpose. But one fateful night as the doors open in the restaurant a woman walks in that will change Rick's simple life. Her name is Melody . Her profession is a TV reporter and with one look, Rick thinks maybe he could fall in love again. Here is where the brilliant writing of Matt really starts to shine. He masterfully places two people together both needing something from one another. Melody has secrets that could cost her deadly consequences. Rick's past could become a reason for blackmail. After all he has been thru who can he really trust? Rick suddenly finds himself tangled up in a murder, which the police are eager to pin on him. Everywhere he turns , more danger follows him. He befriends a news reporter named Heather. She is a smart but determined young reporter who is only interested in the story of a lifetime. He hopes to build trust with her as he uncovers evidence that could shake up the police department. Is it possible that Rick has evidence of corruption in the police department? Could this be why they try so desperately to arrest him for a muder of a man? If this isn't enough to deal with, Rick's partner from the restaurant has gotten into trouble that could cost them the restaurant and Rick's livelihood. Will all this turmoil be to much for Rick? Will he crack under the pressure?The author has written a novel so rich in webs of deceit that the reader won't see what is coming next. He has written a very strong , fearless , determined character in Rick. He is haunted everyday about his wife and knows somewhere out there, a killer is walking free. But for now, he has to survive a murder charge, a chain of lies coming at him from everyone and reach deep into himself to keep a step ahead of all the tangled, twisted, deceptive people who want him dead. Matt Coyle gives readers a roller coaster ride that is fast paced with nonstop action. His characters are fierce and his writing style is that of a brilliant writer who can take his readers to the dark alleys of a person's determination for survival and leave you with an ending so powerful , you will feel the adrenaline rush throughout your body.

      For a first novel this is a great book! Wonderfully written, fast paced, one of those you don't want to put down so you stay up late reading and find it hard to get up in the morning. I'm anxiously awaiting book two! Rick Cahill was deemed guilty of his wife's muder by the media. The police also had him as their main suspect. Eight years later he is managing a restaurant and is interested in a relationship with a beautiful reporter. However, he's in for a big surprise!Rick, once again, becomes a suspect in a murder. You'll have to read the book to find out whose. "Yesterday'e Echo" is a powerful read! A thriller that you will take with you to read a few pages where ever you can!
