About this audiobook

"The erotic, gripping series that has defined an entire genre" (J. R. Ward) continues as #1 New York Times bestselling author Christine Feehan links the fates of two strangers bound by a secret in the shadows of the Carpathian Mountains…

Tatijana of the Dragonseekers spent centuries encased in ice with her sister, trapped in limbo between life and death, never speaking to a soul other than those who tormented her. Now, she has been freed from her frozen prison by an unknown descendent. Awakened in human form, Tatijana yearns to explore the modern world in which she now lives-a world with more mysteries than she is prepared for.

Fenris Dalka has returned to the Carpathian Mountains after a long absence to be with his brother. He is scarred by centuries of battle, and every hard-won victory. But the real reason for his return home could prove deadly if discovered by the wrong man-or woman. Upon his arrival, he is compelled by a beautiful and enigmatic stranger who carries the scent of fresh earth, of forest, of the night itself.

In time Tatijana and Fenris will discover all that unites them-their secrets and pasts, their predators, and the hot flush of passion that stirs their souls. Yet just as surely, seduced into the silvery darkness of a full-moon night, they'll also discover everything ancient and evil that exists to destroy them.

A new breed has arisen, a mix of vampire and werewolves, creating a breed called Sange rau. Our hero, Fen having just recently returned to the Carpathian Mountains to be with Dimitri, his brother, is both Carpathian and Wolf, but must hide that fact from the Lycan elite hunters who have followed the vampire and his wolf packs into the Carpathian territory. This is an enemy unlike any the Carpathians has ever encountered. They are faster and stronger and the packs are huge. The Prince seems to be their target and he must be protected above all else.

In the midst of all the battle there is time for romance as Fen meets Tatijana of the Drangonseakers and immediately realizes she is his lifemate. There is time for a celebration; a new alliance is formed; and we get a chance to catch up on the children and the familes that have become old friends to those of us that have read the series forever.

Watch for Dark Wolf that is being released January 7, 2014. The ending of this book strongly suggest that the story will continue over into that one and we will get to find out more about Dimitri and Skyler.

Author Christine Feehan did not disappoint in book 24 of her Dark Series about a very powerful almost extinct species that originated in the Carpathian Mountains, but lives throughout the world as guardian to man and other Carpathians. She is a master at weaving strands of her past books into her evolving story, reintroducing people who, I'm sure, as one of her most avid fans, I see becoming her new hero and heroine in stories to follow. Each of her books focus on one couple and how they solve the problem of joining forces, becoming lifemates in this ever dangerous environment. Her most recent books have introduced the Jaguar, also a soon to be extinct series, and the Lycan. Some of the Carpathians have found their lifemates among humans, later Jaguar and her most recent books have Lycan and Carpathian lifemates. The Carpathian world continues to evolve as the Carpathian men find their lifemates. Dark Lycan is the first of a Trilogy within the Dark Series. Can the Carpathians survive the changes taking place within their species? Make sure to pick this one up!

After centuries trapped in dragon form in the ice caverns beneath the Carpathian mountains, Tatijana is ready to kick up her heels and dance - the local bar doesn't have much to offer, but it does have music...Fenris Dalka has spent centuries tracking rogue Lycans and vampires, and an equally long time hiding the secret of what he really is. Now, in the heart of the Carpathian mountains he's hunting the largest pack he's ever encountered. And possibly finding true love.Of course there's a happily ever after. Also lots of sex, bloodshed and general mayhem. The vampire/lycan Sange rau offer a formidable new enemy, and the political implications for the Carpathians should stretch through a few more books... too bad Feehan seems to be writing the same characters over and over and over. Borrow, don't buy.

The Carpathian books were one of the first paranormal romance novels I picked up. Dark Prince is still one of my favorite books. I have loved most all of the books in this series, but the last few books that have come out have just be okay for me. Especially the De La Cruz brothers, I've had a hard time getting into their stories. Dark Lycan was and excellent read. The best one since Dark Celebration was released. I was excited to see that Feehan brought the story back to the Carpathian Mountains. This installment felt like some of the first books to me, plus seeing some familiar faces was great. Now I'm eager to read Dark Wolf featuring Dimitri and Skyler's story. It's been a long time coming.

After the train wreck that was Dark Storm, it was refreshing to read Feehan's next book Dark Lycan. The couple was interesting and had charm, but the story was very boring. I didn't care for all the battles between the Carpathians and the Lycans, but it was nice to see interactions with other characters in the series. I've anticipated Dimitri and Skyler's story since the seventh book and ready to finally read it. Dark Wolf is the next book in the series and comes out in January. The female protagonist Tatijana has a twin sister named Branislava and I was more interested in her story than Tatijana. The book was mediocre and I skimmmed, but it was miles ahead of Dark Storm.

The Carpathian series has been a guilty pleasure of mine for years now but the last couple of books were not that great I was sorta on the fence about whether I would continue reading these books or not but I am a creature of habit so I picked up Dark Lycan. While I liked this book and it brings us back to the central cast of characters and back to the Carpathian Mountains. This time the couple is Tatijana and a new character Fen, brother to Dmitri. Tatijana had been kept prisoner and tortured all her life by her father and is in no hurry to find a lifemate. Fen has been with the Lycans so long he has become both Lycan and Carpathian, the Lycans view this as an abomination and he fears what the Carpathians will think of him. He does not want to claim Tatijana and bring danger from both species to her door. This is the first time since Ivory and Razvan's book that I liked a female character, Tatijana was fearless and funny and hey dragons rock! The male characters for the most part are interchangeable for me typical dominant alpha types which is fine, but after 24 books it's hard to make the alpha male unique, that being said I liked Fen well enough and the whole mixture of races was well done. There's a lot of action and you can see the overall story arc heading in a new direction, with new players coming in and new enemies to be afraid of. There was a lot of Dmitri featured here setting up for the next book with him and Skylar. I love when the older characters are brought back and this has a slew of them. You even get to meet the kids who are all toddlers now, it's like a soap they will be grown up in a few years looking for lifemates of their own.I gotta say though and this is weird but it felt ghost written to me, hear me out. First off the complete lack of sex, lotta references but not much action when half the series were these big descriptive love scenes. Mind you it's usually cheesy vanilla sex so whatever. The other thing that made me think ghostwriter is Tatijana was all about meeting nieces and nephews and usually family relationships outside of immediate family are virtually ignored. Anyway it just didn't have the same feel as the other books, even the ones that kinda sucked felt like the same author. Still enjoyed the story though.

I was so excited to get this book and read it in 2 days! It was wonderful to get back into the Carpathian world!! The characters are so real and the situations & action keep me on the seat of my chair. Thank you Christine Feehan for another wonderful book in the series!

Anything released by Christine Feehan used to be an automatic pre-order for me. But so many of the stories and characters were feeling the same and the author is incredibly wordy, repeating some of the same thoughts and fears over and over again. I must admit it's probably closer to true life and what happens in our own heads, but I really only needed to read it once to get it. So I stopped buying her books, although I did get Dark Storm and Dark Lycan from the library. I enjoyed this story. I loved the fact that Fen, an uber-Alpha (because they all are) wasn't acting that way with Titijana--not that she would have let him. He wasn't overly protective or demanding. Instead he treated her like a respected partner and appreciated her skills and willingness to fight with him. She herself is a combination of fierce, loyal fighter, yet sees things with eyes of wonder since she'd spent centuries trapped and tortured in the ice caves. We got a new direction with this story. Fen is a cross between a Carpathian and a Lycan, due to exchanging blood many times with a Lycan. He's faster, stronger and his senses are better. This is considered an abomination by the Lycans as these creatures, if they become rogue or vampires, are a hundred times more difficult to kill. So while hunting down two such creatures--vampire/Lycans--that are leading bands of rogue werewolves, he can't let the elite Lycan hunters know he's more than just a Lycan. Tatijana and her twin sister were rescued from the ice caves just 2 years ago and spent most of the last 2 years in the ground. But Titijana has been sneaking out without her Carpathian guardian's knowledge, so she can learn about the world today and experience life, and no one is ever going to put restrictions on her ever again. Oh yeah, she's also a fire breathing dragon. This takes place in the Carpathian mountains, so we get quite a few people we've met in prior books, as well as meeting some of their kids. I especially liked Gregori's interactions with his twin daughters who are too advanced for their age and not intimidated at all by him and his orders. As always there is a lot of play-by-play fight action. I have to admit I was almost turned off early in the book when Tatijana's first example to us and Fen of how she can take care of herself is with a "perfect" roundhouse kick to a drunk attacker. I don't care what she's seen or knows on an intellectual level, movements like that take a heck of a lot of practice to perfect. Thankfully, I was able to shed my disbelief and appreciated the rest of the story. And we know that the next book, Dark Wolf, will be about Dimitri and Skyler; a story we've been waiting years for. All of the warriors are being sent for to attend a summit that apparently will take place in that book. I sincerely hope this will be wrapping up this series soon.

This review for me is going to be a little different than what I normally write. It is going to be an open letter to both fans of the dark novels and to the author. I have been a long-time fan of Christine Feehan’s work for over 8 years now. I have religiously bought her novels and gradually found myself not reading them. I no longer found myself enjoying the books, but became more and more isolated by the story lines that she was producing. However, I feel this recent work has changed that viewpoint for me. I can honestly say this book was a return to the past and I feel like I have my favorite author back. This book is about a woman named Tatijana who is both survivor and fighter for her family. She and her sister are women that have survived countless tortures of a demented relative. Rising above her pain, she embraces the world with a new look on life, where she stumbles upon her life mate. Taken by surprise she learns to stand up for her beliefs, but also learns how to compromise with her new found spouse. As the story progresses Tatijana is forced to confront a new enemy that is hell bent on destroying her newfound joy. Will Tatijana find the happiness that she desperately needs? Can she keep her family safe from the psychopaths that perpetually enter her life? I want to say that I loved this book and am so happy that I purchased it. I have been very disappointed with the last 6 novels and was just not able to get into the whole jaguar/Carpathian scene. It was a little dull for me and I could not see how any of it was important. I missed the non-jaguar women finding their Carpathian mates and reading the storm that followed. I found this book to be like the first books in her series. It was entertaining, funny, sad, and heartwarming at the same time. I enjoyed how the author described a woman that was both protector and sister to her family. Often time’s women are not portrayed as a skilled fighter who shows compassion and Christine really hit the mark in this book. I loved the hints that were given for future novels in the series. I am anxious to read those as well, but I am hoping the author stays on this track. I am also hoping to see more human/Carpathian pairing. Overall I must say that I enjoyed the book and I highly recommend it! Great job author!

4.5 of 5 starsCarpathian-Lycan hybrid Fenris Dalka is hunting the Vampire-Lycan that have made their way to his Carpathian homeland. He has lived in fear of what his brethren will think of him now that he has evolved to a new creature; one that is considered an abomination and hunted by the Lycan.Dragonseekers Tatijana was recently rescued after being imprisoned her entire life by her evil father. For the first time, she can do what she wants. The last thing on her mind is to find her life mate and once again be tied down. The two meet, and it is clear they are life mates: Fen apprehensive to tie someone’s life to his and Tatijana not wanting to give up her freedom. It’s been a while since I read a book by Christine Feehan. I have always enjoyed her Dark Series, although I do admit that I skipped a few. It was clear some interesting things happened in the previous books, and I am definitely going to have to go back and read the novels I missed. I have always appreciated that Christine Feehan’s books are in sequence but can easily be read as a stand-alone.I loved the whole concept of the Carpathian-Lycan mix versus the Vampire-Lycan mix. It was very carefully thought out and original. Ruler, Mikhail Dubrinsky, was very insightful in giving the Carpathian-Lycan mix a new name to help separate them from their Vampire-Lycan counterparts.I enjoyed being reunited with previous characters as well as discovering new ones. Feehan does an exceptional job of making the reader feel invested in the characters. Fenris is thoughtful and strong. He is very honorable, making him the perfect Carpathian-Lycans mix. Tatijana is resilient considering she led a life imprisoned. She is the perfect mate for Fen. They make an extraordinary couple. I can’t wait to read Fen’s brother Dimetri Tirunul and Skyler Daratrazanoff story in Dark Wolf (Dark #25) and then Tatijana’s sister Branislava and Zev Hunter’s story in Dark Blood (Dark, #26). I love those Carpathian-Lycans and Dragonseekers; they complement each other well.Complimentary copy provided by manicreaders.com in exchange for an honest review.
