About this audiobook

The tree-lined streets and mystical shops of Salem, Massachusetts resonate with a seductive and brutal history. New Orleans musician Megan O’Casey has returned to the home of her ancestors to perform , with her husband Finn, in a weeklong series of concerts, culminating on All Hallow’s Eve…and to renew her connection with the past.

But from the moment they arrive in Salem, Finn seems different—sensual beyond belief one moment; cold and ruthless the next. The locals—even Megan’s relatives—regard him strangely, with a distrust bordering on hatred. Megan must soon face the fact that something powerful is rising, a malevolence that may have already claimed Finn for its own…

As the full moon approaches, Megan senses that she, too, is in great danger. Sinister forces seem to be bringing her closer to darkness in a centuries–old ritual that music cannot tame…and time cannot conquer…

Great book it was very enjoyable and entertaining. More of the suspense that make one keep going on. It is second time around reading this again making it much more understandable Magan Merrill was married to Ginn Douglas whose ancestors was responsible for stopping the power of the ? from coming into existence. As musicians they they took a job in the New England to perform during the Halloween season. At the same time they the people who hired them are part of the cult. They want to used them to bring the Satan to human life. By exchange of human body the that of Flinn Douglas and his wife Megan Merrill Douglas. But the most disappointing thing is the person they trusted Anty Mather and the brother in-law who was married to Magan's sister Morwenna the Wiccan. Great that they were stoped.

For my #8 challenge (Spooky Story), I read The Awakening by Shannon Drake. In an attempt to save their failing marriage, New Orleans musicians Megan Merrill and Finn Douglas have come to Megan's hometown - Salem, Massachusetts to play a weeklong series of concerts, culminating on All Hallow's Eve. From the moment they arrive in Salem, however, Finn begins to change; loving and attentive one moment, cold and ruthless the next. The locals - even Megan's own relatives - regard him with distrust bordering on hatred. As the time of the full moon draws nearer, Megan has terrifyingly real nightmares which make her begin to doubt her sanity and she is followed at night by an enveloping fog. She must soon face the fact that something has claimed Finn for its own and that her very soul is in mortal danger. I give this paranormal romance an A+!

I was a little surprised that this is considered book 5 in the Vampire series, because really this was a story about witches. There are a few vampires towards the end of the book, but the story could have been told with out their involvement. I thought the story started out a little slow, but then gained momentum. Towards the end, I really wanted to keep reading to find out what would happen next. I liked learning some of the historical information about Salem. I was able to predict who the evil priestess was less than halfway through the book, but the other members of the evil coven were more surprising to me.

I am typically not a big horror fan, but this one was given to me. It just so happened that I read it during a week when there was a lot of intense fog in my hometown and had me a little nervous...haha. It was an OK book. A little intrigue, a little martial discord, a little romance. Not the best, but not the worst book I ever read.

The 5th in a series of romantic vampire books. This is much better then the last two. Shannon Drake is getting back to her good writing as in the first two. Back to being chilling.
