- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Robin arrives back from taking a group to tour India, while there she visited her mother and brings back a rare book, the Kama Sutra, for Brooklyn to repair and value. Immediately murder and mayhem explode and Brooklyn Wainwright and Derek Stone are there to help Robin and piece together the mystery.A cozy mystery with a little bit of everything. Mystery spiced with James Bond style characters, spies, action/adventure, murder and romance. Easy fast flowing read.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5This is my first Kate Carlisle book and I liked it a lot. Would have gotten 4 stars but I figured out where the flash drive was as soon as it was mentioned. Carlisle does do a good job of keeping the mystery moving along and the eclectic characters are fun.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5This was the first book of this series that I've read, and I enjoyed it enough for 3.5 stars, but not quite enough for 4 stars. I really enjoyed the book theme, and would've enjoyed reading more of the book-related plot. The main character, Brooklyn, has some interesting friends and neighbors, who added color to the story. I wonder if the romance will last. Should I go back and read 1-3 in the series?
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Brooklyn's BFF, Robin, returns from her travels and a visit with her mother in the Far East bringing Brooklyn a copy of the Kuma Sutra for repair. But before Brooklyn can even start her work, Robin suddenly returns covered in blood, hysterical.Determining that Robin has been involved with the murder of a man she just met, Brooklyn sets out with her Security hunk of a boyfriend, Derek, to find out what happened and whether Robin is safe or not.The story has many twists and turns carrying the reader along with a combination of numerous mysterious characters that somehow lead Robin home to the safe haven of Dharma and Brooklyn's family.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5The slowest moving of the books thus far. While the core book-centered mystery is reliably solid, in this outing we spend WAY too much time talking about the women's relationships with men. To be blunt, Carlisle cannot write male characters; without exception they are stereotypical female fantasies, full of testosterone, muscle and an impulse to literally sweep the woman offer her feet and carry her away to an excluded cabin with nary a word said. They have no history, no psychology, other than to fulfill the wishes of their females. While her female characters are, on their own, more three dimensional, in close proximity to their targeted males they become short of breath, with damp nethers and a desire to solve all problems by yielding to a brawny embrace. These descriptions and talks about relationships go on for pages, when many of us are far more interested in the mystery. With luck her later efforts will steer away from the soft porn and focus more on entertaining character development.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I LOVE this series and this book was excellent - really interesting and fast paced. This has become my favourite current series and I'm going to be very impatient waiting for the next book to come out in May of 12!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I've been enjoying this series all along but this one is just outstanding. Brooklyn is excited that her new boyfriend is staying with her and has moved a branch of his business to San Francisco. She is also happy that best friend Robin is back from three weeks in India, where she has been doing business and also visiting her mother. When Robin reveals that her mother has sent a valuable and rare book back for Brooklyn to restore the intrigue begins.First, Robin wakes up in bed with a new man, who happens to have been killed while she slept. Her apartment has also been ransacked. Then Brooklyn's apartment is ransacked as well. With plenty of red herrings and a lot of help from British security expert, and Brooklyn's current boyfriend, the whole thing starts to appear that the book is at the center of the mystery. But, is it? Or is something else going on entirely? We also get to spend some time with Brooklyn's family at their small town north of San Francisco where they make wine and live the quiet life. Can't wait to read the next in the series.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This is the fourth book in the Bibliophile Series. Brooklyn's lifelong friend, Robin, has returned from India. She has brought with her a copy of the Kama Sutra that a friend of Robin's mother wants restored. A week after she gave Brooklyn the book, she appears on Brooklyn's doorstep covered in blood. A man she met shortly afer returning to the states is murdered in her residence. Brooklyn's boyfriend, Derek, is opening an a branch office of his security business in San Francisco. The man lilled was Ukrainian, then a Russian is dead and Judy and Brooklyn are assulted by the girlfriend of the killed Uhrainian. This is a well plotted book with an interesting and credible cast of characters. Best to start with book one so you can get to know many of the characters in the book. A very exciting read with a few chuckles, too.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5it had a little too much romance and not enough mystery.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I was really disappointed in the choice of villian for this book--it definitely didn't seem to add anything to the story, and seemed unnecessary against the grander arc of the series. It could be redeemed if the next book deals with fallout from this one, but as it was, it just seemed...random.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Really a 2 1/2 star book. This was the weakest book so far in the series. I started reading this series because the main character was an expert bookbinder specializing in repairing rare books. A lot of time in the previous novels was spent on bookbinding, rare books, book fairs ect. This novel dealt much more with romance and wasn't anywhere near as interesting.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5A disappointing read for what should have been a cozy mystery. Itinerate book binder/crime solver battles spies and the police in an effort to save a witless friend. Sex as a snag in the very first sentence should have been a clue that there wasn’t going to be much on offer. Even a small effort at research on the author’s part could have closed ridiculous plot holes. Lazy writing. Don’t waste time on this one.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Brooklyn Wainwright is again in the middle of a murder case when her best friend Robin’s Ukrainian bedmate is shot to death while she’s fast asleep next to him. Brooklyn and her boyfriend, the mysterious and “hot” Derek Stone, are determined to make sure Robin isn’t unfairly targeted as the perpetrator. Could Alexei’s death have anything to do with the centuries-old bejeweled edition of the Kama Sutra that Robin brought back from a visit to her mother in India? Brooklyn is a professional bookbinder and restorer and she’s amazed at the beauty of the book, along with its detailed photos of various sexual practices. But what secrets does the book hold?Murder Under Cover is lightweight fiction – 90% romance and 10% mystery. If the author would have mentioned one more time that Derek is “hot,” I would have thrown the book away in despair. The plot was inane and the characters were terribly unlikable. I have read earlier books in this series and not felt so negatively about them. I don’t know if the author and her publisher have decided to go the chick-lit route, or if my tolerance for non-mysterious mysteries is waning. Either way, this is the last book I read in this series.Review based on publisher-provided copy of bound galley.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Brooklyn's BFF, Robin has just returned from a trip to India where she spent some time with her mother. She has brought Brooklyn a beautiful copy of the Kama Sutra to restore. And they both have news on the romance front, Brooklyn's boyfriend Derek has moved in with her, at least until he can find a permanent place in San Francisco and Robin met the most wonderful guy from the Ukraine on her way home from the airport. Well, someone did not think he is so wonderful because Robin wakes up a few days later to find in dead in the bed next to her. Turns out he had drugged her and she did not even hear the shots. As Derek and Brooklyn investigate it because more and more obvious that Robin is smack in the middle of a foriegn intrique. As the body count rises, Brooklyn is determined to protect her friend and find the killer.I think this is my favorite in the series so far. There was plenty of action and romance. And Brooklyn is alway fun even at the most dire times. We also see more of her neighbors, and a new family has moved in. Lots of fun.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Another thoroughly enjoyable entry in the series. I would not want to be one of Brooklyn's acquaintances! The author has fallen into the quandary of where to get her victims and how to tie them to her protaganist. I am sure she will find a way around it. I like where the characters are going, though. Looking forward to the next one.
