About this audiobook

TEARDROP launches a new series from Lauren Kate, author of the #1 New York Times bestselling FALLEN series. Haunting, mysterious, romantic and steeped in mythology, TEARDROP is the epic saga of Eureka Boudreaux, a 17-year old Louisiana girl whose tears have the power to raise the lost continent of Atlantis . . .  a world where everything you love can be washed away.  With the international phenomenon FALLEN, Lauren Kate has captured the hearts and imaginations of readers all over the world, with rights sold in 33 countries and counting.

Never, ever cry. . . .
Eureka Boudreaux's mother drilled that rule into her daughter years ago. But now her mother is gone, and everywhere Eureka goes he is there: Ander, the tall, pale blond boy who seems to know things he shouldn't, who tells Eureka she is in grave danger, who comes closer to making her cry than anyone has before.
But Ander doesn't know Eureka's darkest secret: ever since her mother drowned in a freak accident, Eureka wishes she were dead, too. She has little left that she cares about, just her oldest friend, Brooks, and a strange inheritance-a locket, a letter, a mysterious stone, and an ancient book no one understands. The book contains a haunting tale about a girl who got her heart broken and cried an entire continent into the sea-and something about the story is uncannily familiar.
Eureka is about to discover that the ancient tale is more than a story, that Ander might be telling the truth . . . and that her life has far darker undercurrents than she ever imagined.

Wow, never have I read a book that started so strong to fall so, so flat in the last 50 pages. Starts of really great with this whole Atlantis vibe, then it gets weird with the whole no crying thing. it really derails though with the whole possession and try to make the girl cry stuff. Seriously such a garbage book, and the main character is such a raging bitch.

All in all, i would very much like to have this book scrubbed from my mind. Except for a lingering feeling of never read that again. So disappointing to feel like that about a book that started so strong.

I thought this book was extremely depressing and to be honest, the entire point of the story was a little confusing. The back story didn't really provide reasoning for the extreme actions of characters in the present.

So, maybe I'm daft, but I didn't really get it. I gave it 3 stars because I was intrigued enough to finish the book. Maybe because I was hoping that it would make sense. ??

    The cover is awesome, though.

[Tuesday, October 8, 2013] This seems like my kind of story. I can't wait to get this book, I enjoyed Fallen a lot. Hope this book is as good as the first one.

[Tuesday, December 24, 2013] So while we had an electricity breakdown for a couple of days while it was snowing I began with this book, the beginning is very promising. I read many negative reviews but I like to make my own mind about any book.

Now that I finished the book I can say it was a good read. It was a story between The Little Mermaid and Prophet Noah's somehow. What actually surprised me is how dark Lauren Kate is, I thought it was something to do with Fallen but there is a style to her characters. She likes repel girls, with bad temper and dark family history with a guy loving her for ages. It's somehow similar to Fallen in the feeling you get while reading the story.

I love how Lauren Kate's mind works! She inspires me! I can only hope to become as good of a writer as her one day. I do not understand the bad reviews for this novel. I absolutely adored it! It was imaginative, magical, different, unlike any other story I have read. It opens up a world I have always been interested in and always wanted to read about. I CAN'T wait to see where Lauren goes next with this series! I am on the edge of my seat waiting for the adventure to continue!

Teardrop is a book that I have wanted to read for a while yet but at the same time avoiding. I've heard a lot of bad things said about this book, but honestly that not what put me off, it's because it was done by Lauren Kate. A few years back I read the Fallen series, and I liked the idea of it and found the first two books to be good, as they went on I just found them to be predictable and lacking (what I still to this day don't know). I know a lot of people love the books, one of my friends included, but until I read them again , they didn't end well for me. (I would like to point out that I thought the idea behind it and most of the theory of the relationship to be beautiful). Anyway, those books were hyped up something rotten, and at the start so was Teardrop, so even though the cover is beautiful I still decided I would wait to read it. I'm glad I've got it out of the way because it wasn't a terrible book, but it did have lots of flaws.Teardrop is based around Eureka, a girl who hasn't cried properly since she was around 4 years old. When her mother is killed in a freak car accident, that she miraculously survived, she starts pushing those closest to her away, giving up on cross country running, a passion of hers and even attempts to take her own life. So when her stepmother from hell forces her to attend therapy, can anyone really blame her?. Her life is anything but easy, when by chance (or fate) she comes across a boy named Ander who she can't seem to get out of her head, and her mother leaves her 3 mysterious objects in her will things seem to get weirder by the day. Soon Eureka is finding out that even though she told her mother everything, her mother did not do the same. There is things about Eureka's past, present and future that she doesn't understand, but if she has any hope of surviving she has to try harder to. She is part of something far greater than she could ever imagine and when the fate of the world rests on her shoulders, is she really ready for that level of responsibility?.The characters... So I didn't like Euerka, I just didn't connect with her. I tried to because her story is a rather sad one, but I felt like she was just a bit too woe is me all the time. I know I know, she's had just lost her mother but most of the drama in her life she has caused. She closed herself of from people and the world even though they were only trying to help her and be there for her and I think that's why I just couldn't see past it. Ander was another character I didn't connect with, I thought he was sweet, and I liked him, he just wasn't for me. Hell I'm going to just say now that I didn't really like any of the characters, and it's hard to fully enjoy a book without at least one person to connect with.the story itself wasn't bad, in fact just like her Fallen series I really liked Lauren Kate's concept behind this. It was something different and unique, only yet again I found myself wishing for so much more. It took too long for anyone to really explain what was what to Euerka, so what we ended up with was a lot of nonsense and unnecessary chapters wtih a lack of character building. The reason I've given this a 3.5 rating is because like I said, I liked the idea behind it, and even though granted there was a lot about the book I didn't like or feel needed to be there, it wasn't terrible. For anyone who likes this book I suggest reading Starcrossed series by Josephine Angelini, something with a similar concept but with a lot less flaws.

As this is my first Lauren Kate book, I am not tired of her "supernatural destiny, cosmic love triangle, end of the world" storylines. It's entertaining and it sells.

Good start to a series that has a fresh take on the mythology theme. May have been more detail and description than needed. Feels like things only finally get going at the end of the book. However, readers will be curious to find out what is next in this unpredictable series. Two possible love interests in a fun part of the plot. Audio reading was good.

What a beautiful cover and one that may inspire others to buy this novel just for the cover. Now,is the rest of author lauren Kate's book as successful as the beauty of her covers? A resoundidng yes, even though the plot is complex. At times, I used my scanning abilities to get past some of the descriptions she presented, but as mystery after mystery unfolded, I back traced and reread a few places Ihad skipped over. Not your normal way of reading but not a normal girl loves boy romantic novel, as therproblems surfaced. the beginning of the world hurled at me confused me, but the author built on that and I found her pacing quite good in the end. Did I like Eureka? Not sure, and I am still thinking about her, as much of her character traits were left out., Perhaps the author wants me to fill them in. Hmmm. The next book may distinguish some of the characters more and yet, I didn't feel let down by "Teardrop".Who would think that Eureka surviving a car crash would produce such a good plot? I heartily recommend this book to those who like this genre, a paranormal novel for 14 and up. All of the ingredients are here for mystical plots, so I say heartily "Go for it".

The mythology is arguably the coolest thing about TEARDROP, but it's also the only cool thing about TEARDROP. The first 100 pages or so is pretty lackluster as all the main characters trot in and out and Eureka (who is called Reka which never stopped conjuring 'stink' in my mind every time I read it) moped through her admittedly unpleasant life in the months following her mother's death. After that the Atlantis twist started to be revealed via an ancient Atlantean diary. Unfortunately, the legend of Atlantis and the new mythology Lauren Kate created wasn't enough to keep the characters and plot afloat. The characters were probably the anchor that sank TEARDROP. They just weren't interesting despite a few of them having potentially interesting lives. And the three characters involved in the love triangle (Reka, Briggs, and Ander) are plagued by insta-love, destiny love, and a lot of other cliche tropes. Reka was frustratingly indecisive and swept away by appearances when she should have been freaked out. Ander was as captain cardboard as they come and his complete puppy dog devotion bordered on creepy. Briggs was the long time best friend who was not-so-secretly in love with Reka (although she was oblivious) and relied way too much on the back story of their relationship instead of any meaningful interaction in the book to win me over. There were a few semi interesting twists towards the end, and the Atlantis mythology became more prominent which was nice, but TEARDROP isn't anything more than a pretty cover and a story that doesn't come close to living up to it's subject matter.

TEARDROP was in interesting beginning to a new trilogy by Lauren Kate. I liked the way it added paranormal elements to a contemporary story. I enjoyed getting to know Eureka Boudreaux. I felt so bad for her as she was grieving for her adored mother. I sympathized with her as she struggled to fit in with her father and stepmother. While she loved her young twin half-brother and half-sister she had never connected with her stepmother Rhoda. I could understand how grief had made her pull into herself and even attempt suicide. I could understand how grief had pulled her away from her friends and the things she used to love doing. She is lucky enough that her friends Cat and Brooks have stuck with her and aren't making her feel worse by feeling sorry for her. As is the case in so many young adult novels these days, there are two boys who are involved in her life and candidates for her affection. Brooks is her best friend and has been since they were small children. The new boy in her life is Ander who is quite a mysterious character. Ander is also where the paranormal starts coming into this story. He is a Seedbearer - beings who have power to control the wind, are from the lost continent of Atlantis, and who are determined to save humanity from the actions of the descendant of Selene's Tearline. The Seedbearers believe that Eureka is that descendant and that her tears will destroy the world. Ander has spent his life watching Eureka and, while watching, he has fallen in love with her. His love won't let him allow the Seedbearers to kill her.To make things even more complicated, some on the lost continent of Atlantis are able to use their minds to invade human bodies. They want Eureka to bring humanity's destruction. One is using Brooks' body to try to make that happen. Since Eureka doesn't know that, she sees Brooks' actions as another betrayal of her trust.I am eager to see where these trilogy goes because I feel invested in Eureka and her story.

Being a huge fan if the Fallen Series I got excited when I saw the release of Teardrop, Kate Lauren's latest series. And I have to say I was not disappointed. Teardrop tells the story of Eureka from the point of her mothers death when she was saved at the last moment by the Seedbarer sent to kill her. Enter Ander, who has spent his whole life watching her, learning about her, all with the aim of stopping her from fulfilling the prophecy foretelling her coming and the rise of Atlantis. But in spending his life observing her, he fell in love. Now I'm not going to tell you more of the story line as you really need to enjoy the twists turns and surprises for yourself. This is a great story and I'm excited about the prospect of the second and more books in this new series.

I enjoyed this book. It was written by Lauren Kate, who is best known for her YA Series "Fallen." "Teardrop" is designed to be the first in a trilogy, as well. It is a very easy read and reminded me a bit of the "Twilight" series. There were a few things in the first half of the book that I found confusing, but these were all explained and/or resolved later in the book. The ending is more of a set-up for the next book, but I'm glad the author is taking her time in telling this story. There are so many books out now that show great promise, but are damaged because the author tries to put too much into one book. "Teardrop" wasn't perfect. Without giving away too much, Eureka's relationships with both her father and her step-mother, Rhoda, didn't always add up for me. I also found it curious that Eureka was willing to trust the fortune teller, Madame Blavatsky, so much. Overall, however, I think this is a book that tweens and teenage girls will enjoy. The "Teardrop" trilogy shows promise and I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the series. I am a teacher, library volunteer, and the chairperson of my son's Scholastic Book Fair which is held twice yearly. This is a definitely book I will be able to recommend!I received this book in a giveaway sponsored by the publisher, Delacorte Press. This in no way affected my review of it.

Good fantasy book. The main character suffers the lost of her mother and a mysterious boy becomes known to her. The book left one too many loose ends. The story includes murder so it may be classified as a YA book.

Eureka's story begins when she and her mother are hit by a rogue wave that sweeps their car off a bridge, and kills her mom. Eureka is saved by a mysterious boy, Ander, who later resurfaces in the story as someone who has been watching her since she was born. He is supposed to be the one to kill her, to prevent the prophecy about her from coming true. Supposedly, her tears will cause a flood which will allow Atlantis to resurface, and the horrible, cruel Atlanteans to rule again. Ander doesn't believe that the resurfacing will automatically be a bad thing, and he isn't willing to kill Eureka because he loves her. This is book one in a new series by the same author as the Fallen series.

OH MY GOD I LOVE THIS BOOK – is what I said before the cliffhanger. But seriously it’s a good one. The summary on the book made me hold off on reading this one because it just sounded so bland and sappy but once I forced myself to read it I finished it in one night (I went to work late the next day…sorry not sorry)Eureka can’t cry, actually she can cry but she forces herself not to because of a traumatic experience when she was a kid that made her suppress any tear from there on out. Lately it’s hard to keep suppressing those tears because for one, her mom died in a freak tidal wave accident, her stepmom is forcing her to go to a shrink, her best friend is acting weird and there’s something about that cute pale faced blonde boy named Ander that frustrates her. But she never cries. Something that catches her interest is a book she inherits from her late mother about a forbidden romance written in an ancient language that takes her a while to get translated. She starts to connect the dots and realizes that maybe her mother’s death wasn’t an accident, there’s a specific reason she feels drawn to the mystery behind Ander’s sudden appearance in her life, and why she can’t ever let out a single tear.If you don’t like wuv twiangos then stay away. It’s pretty much there till the last minute, plus the two dudes pining for Eureka are swoon worthy for sure…if you can get past the stalkerish ways of Ander the Seedbearer (yeah I still don’t like that name) in the beginning of the book…which I kind of did. I guess another con would be the sad treatment of the women in the novel. I don’t want to get my feminist mouth entangled in what could be my own exaggeration but yeah…MOVING ONNow that the cons are out of the way let’s get down to the good. I love the fantasy aspect of the book, it doesn’t expand too much on it but the “translation of the book” bits and parts are really revealing and when (*spoiler Ander explains the purpose of his people it sheds a light into the good guys and bad guys though it is a bit ambiguous so far…in my opinion*) Eureka is a pretty decent main character because she’s not fake about her feelings towards those trying to soften the loss of her mother. She either finds them extremely annoying or she sympathizes towards them. She’s close to her half siblings and I really loved her best friend. Most of the characters were well developed and those that weren’t (unfortunately Ander is kind of one of those and even to a certain extent so was Eureka, she never got past the anger of surviving the accident) seem to be those that will be expanded upon in the next novel of the series.I LOOOOOOOOOVED it. But the characters weren’t as well developed as I’d have liked.

I need to first address that cover: can you say STUNNING? Seriously beautiful work there!AS for the story, I think I came into it with some incredibly high expectations, because I just wasn’t wowed by this one. I really liked it, I did! But I wasn’t entirely captivated by it.The prologue had me GASPING. I mean, that’s a pretty big BANG to start the story off with. So after that, it felt a little slow and draggy. There was sooo much intensity that it dulled a bit as the story opened up more. There’s some definite insta-love going on here. When Eureka first meets Ander, there’s this immediate, deep connection that she feels that she continuously talks herself out of until BAM! she loves him. It’s not that I hate insta-love–if the situation is convincing enough for me, I will LOVE it. But it seemed like she had nothing but doubts about him and then all of a sudden she loves him without even having that much interaction with him.BUT I can’t fault Ander for that because he’s been looking out for her his whole life; he’s developed this deep devotion for her and he would do anything to keep her safe. So I’m over here thinking, *swoon* Ander is a dreamboat. It’s just Eureka’s insta-love for him that has me feeling ‘meh’ about her feelings, but not his.And then there’s BROOKS, whose whole situation I’m upset about. The best friend, always there for her even when no one else was, the one you talk to about anything and EVERYTHING and that’s what happens to him? Come ON! NO! It’s frustrating is what it is, because all of a sudden he has these cruel moments that are not like him AT ALL and I don’t like it. I want the real Brooks back!Basically I love Ander AND Brooks, so don’t ask me to pick between them;) And I like Eureka, but feel ‘meh’ about her sometimes. The premise of this story is really interesting, though. Having the whole maiden’s-tears-swallowed-Atlantis version kept reminding me of Alice’s ocean of tears in Wonderland, you know? And I love me some Alice, so reading about this version of the legend was SUPER cool. All in all, I enjoyed the story! It just wasn’t a ‘WHOA, WOW, YES!’ kind of experience. I am looking forward to the next book, Waterfall, slated for publication on October 28 of this year! For me this was a3.8/5 stars;)
