About this audiobook
A spinster with a secret...
After being seduced and ruined by her worst enemy, Juliette Andrews has vowed to marry no man—especially not Dr. Paul Fraser, her childhood sweetheart. Content to bury herself in accounts and numbers, she refuses to let the devastatingly handsome Highlander back into her life.
A rebel with a cause...
Paul Fraser’s heart burns with the need for vengeance against the earl who executed his father and drove the Scots from their homes. But when he learns that his enemy hurt the woman he loves, Paul has sworn to destroy him.
Can Juliette overcome the darkness of her past in the arms of the man she once loved? Or will her secrets tear them apart?

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Infinitely better than the first book, but lordy... does the author love her angst... all the angst did become tedious, especially as the 1st book never let up, which is why I preferred this one, as the angst did ease up halfway through!
& the angst is more understandable in this book as both the trauma & the consequences of said trauma were a lot more serious than the other sister's, who at 17 got lost in some woods & decided to sit down waiting for someone to rescue her & nearly dying as a result, instead of trying to save herself!
However, I did find a few points ridiculous in this book, which were that she was able to hide her GINORMOUS secret from her mother & sisters (HOW?!), but somehow she chose to tell her aunt... which makes NO sense whatsoever, especially as by doing so, she could've exposed her own sisters to the same danger she faced!
That their lingerie line is a secret, yet 2 of the sisters decide to discuss it openly at a ball where ANYONE could've overheard them, when they live in the same house & could've talked about it at ANY other time... facepalm!
That the Duke chose only to try to affect the Earl's sales of wool, when he outranks the Earl in every way & could've done a lot worse to the man who both kidnapped & almost killed his wife & said wife decides not to warm her husband of the danger she's in, even though she knows how dangerous the Earl really is, when she's alone & heavily pregnant!
That no one in the whole family ever thought to hire guards, especially considering that they all knew how unhinged the Earl was & how he was capable of really heinous acts!
I do like it that unlike Victoria, Juliette does grow a backbone & that she faces her own worst fears as well as her enemy & never really acts like a damsel in distress... bonus points, but she can be a bit dopey at times, like all the indecision about marrying Paul, even though she both loves him & it would keep her safe from the Earl, but she is an infinitely better heroine than her sister!
Paul is too sweet, but a lot of the issues could've been resolved sooner if he'd just been honest about his secret from the start, which did drive me nuts!
