- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Really liked his writing style and unique and interesting story. Did not give 5 stars due to fairly shallow character development and over simplistic womanizer main character who bothered me over time. would read another if his books
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5The back-cover talked about an intellectual thriller - similar sounding to The Di Vinci Code - so I figured it would be entertaining at the very least. However, the book was more than just entertaining - it was entrancing. I got so completely sucked in to the plot-line, I didn't even notice the three hour layover! The plot tied together stories from the times of the Neanderthals, the 1300's, the late 1890's, and modern times. It did this in a way though that kept the plot moving quickly and efficiently, without getting bogged down in the changing perspectives. There was some fascinating facts about archaeology and science, and I was left wondering how the story would end up till the final pages. A few twists were predictable, however there was also a few twists that surprised me.I don't want to give away any of the plot, and the big details are as revealing as the little ones. I will only say that this was a great book if you want a thriller to entertain you for a few hours. It will make you think and you will learn a few things too! Pick up a copy, I'm going to add his other two books to my TBR pile!
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5While the present day story had me gripped I found history flashbacks a little boring. It seemed like the author was trying to tell more of the story than was actually there. By the time the end of the book came it all became a little disappointing and unbelievable. Shame really because the investigative team working on the remains was the best pasrt of the book.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Book DescriptionProphecy is prologueEngland, 1775. An ambitious American pushes his expedition onward despite dire warnings from the locals. But what Benjamin Franklin discovers on the Isle of Wight isn't just superstition. It's a secret with the power to save the world—or destroy it.In less than four hundred days, most of the world's population will be dead. Nobody knows why, only when: February 9, 2027.Retired FBI Special Agent Will Piper is one of the few who will live "Beyond the Horizon." Fifteen years ago, he revealed the prophecy to the world after the hunt for a madman led him to the mystical Library of Vectis, now housed at Area 51, in an unmarked location in the Nevada desert. Will is determined to live out his days in the Florida sun . . . even as the world sinks into hedonism and despair . . . even as the Doomsday Killer's ominous calling cards resurface . . . until the apocalypse threatens the one thing Will won't compromise on: his own flesh and blood. My Review This is the 3rd book and the last book in the Will Piper series. It is best if this series is read in order as each book is a continuation of the last book. The plot was a very interesting read with well-drawn characters. It was fast-paced read that kept the pages turning until a very surprising ending. History from the past and a switch to present was done very skillfully. The concept of the book is a very unusual and interesting premise and Glenn Cooper is very adept at getting us to believe it could be true. I look forward to reading more of his books and I highly recommend this book to those who love mystery thrillers.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This was another very good book to end this exciting trilogy. I have loved all three books, although the first one will always be my favourite - partly because I wasn't expecting much from the book (being a new author) and partly because of the introduction of the main concept of the series. It is still one of my favourite books. Yet again we have a famous character from the past being interweaved within the story - Benjamin Franklin in this case. Look out for the justification for the War of Independence within this one! I love the way the modern story and the historical backstory are interweaves so well. I will miss the characters but will definitely look out for more books by Glenn Copper! If you enjoy books of this nature I thoroughly recommend the series.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Will Piper is back in this third instalment of his Vectis Library series. He is enjoying his retirement in Florida and trying not to dwell on the End of Days scenario he has lived with since discovering the secret library of the monks. He knows that he, his wife and son all live “Beyond the Horizon” and that’s all he wants to dwell on right now. Until his son disappears. Drawing on all his FBI experience he follows his son’s trail to England where he makes a strange discovery, bring all his concerns about the monks and their legacy brutally to the forefront again.
Mr. Cooper’s books have enthralled from the first one, and this series is particularly good. He has a talent for intricately weaving three tales, from three separate time periods in history into a tale that keeps the reader turning the pages. I know this is the third of a trilogy but maybe Mr. Cooper could do an epilogue book (is there such a thing?) because I would like to know what happens “Beyond the Horizon”.
