- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This book was given out as part of a series of sermons at church in the fall of 2012.For everyone who says they are a Christian -- read this book to decide if you are a Fan or a true Follower of Christ.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This book was truly amazing. Kyle Idleman carefully, systematically, and with a wonderful combination of humor and brevity, defines what it means to be a truly committed follower of Christ. I would highly recommend this to any Christian interested in learning to say "no" to the world, and "yes" to Jesus.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Love it! What a powerful challenge to lukewarm Christianity. Engaging and deeply challenging, this is a book every Christian should read. I am still struck by the simple and probing question, "has following Jesus cost you anything?"
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Rated: AGreat book for those committed to being, not just a fan of Jesus Christ, but a true all-in follower. I am not a fan.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5This book is an eye opener & caused me to ask myself some tough questions. Jesus has "fans" and Jesus has "followers." Am I a fan or follower? What does Jesus require if you are to be one of His followers? The author makes some great points & backs up with a lot of scripture & personal stories from other people. I didn't like his writing style. He tried to include a lot of humor & comments & side notes that were just dumb & annoying to me. The book could have been 100 pages shorter if he had just kept things focused. Overall, I liked it I'm glad to have had the chance to read it & now challenge myself to pick up my cross & follow Christ.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Kenda Creasy Dean, an Associate Professor at Princeton, examines the results of a massive study done from 2003-2005 called the national Study of Youth and Religion, as well as the assertion by others of the rise in Moralistic Therapeutic Deism in place of Christian, Jewish, Muslim and other faiths, although very much primarily focused on traditional Christian groups along with Mormons--a feel good type experience. That it wasn't riveting is evidenced by the fact that I first started this book in 2014 and only went back and actually read the entire thing because it was part of a book reading game, and yet it's a topic I'm actually interested in.This book has a fairly narrow target audience; those interested in the religious faith of American teens. It was interesting that Dean didn't even understand that at least one of the churches she discussed at length isn't even trinitarian, and she stated from the outset that that was her bias. While there were some interesting parts, and a few places that were very interesting, overall I can't say that it was stellar.
