About this audiobook
Relationship therapist Sonya Rhodes's liberating, straight-talking guide convincingly argues that successful modern women—the audience who embraced Lean In—can find the right guy without having to change or settle, and tells them how to do it.
In the twenty-first century, women are outpacing men in education and career advancement. Yet amazingly, successful women constantly hear that their professional achievements doom their chances of marriage and family.
Don't believe the alarmist hype, advises top relationship therapist Dr. Sonya Rhodes. Today's Alpha women—ambitious, self-assured, and hardworking— aren't going to end up lonely spinsters. They don't have to settle for Mr. Good Enough. Echoing Sheryl Sandberg's powerful message, The Alpha Woman Meets Her Match shares the secret necessary to triumph in love and work: find the right partner. It can be done—and Dr. Rhodes has the tools to help.
Going beyond value judgments associated with the terms Alpha and Beta, she advises women to look past the overly competitive, domineering Alpha male for a man who's in touch with his inner Beta qualities—someone who is communicative, responsible, thoughtful, and collaborative. Demonstrating that most people are a combination of both sets of qualities, she includes a revealing test to help readers define where they (and their partners) are on the Alpha-Beta spectrum.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Read in May, 2014Read for Review (William Marrow)Overall Rating: 3.50Self-Help Rating: 3.00Commentary Rating: 4.00First Thought when Finished: I wasn't sure what to expect from The Alpha Woman Meets Her Match by Sonya Rhodes but overall I found the book fascinating.Self-Help Thoughts: I found a lot of what Sonya wrote on Alpha Women/Beta Men to be pretty on point but a little extreme in examples. I don't consider myself an Alpha Woman, more of a Beta Woman with some Alpha tendencies so most of the advice really didn't resonate with me. I thought of the true Alpha Women in my life (and their partners) and could see some of what she was saying but felt that most of it was geared towards the extreme Alpha Woman. Also to women about 10 years younger than I am. Nothing wrong with that at all just wasn't overall useful to me. Though I did like the quiz in chapter 2 that kind of let you know where you were on the scale. I would most definitely pick up other self-help books by Sonya though--she is straight talking. I like that!Commentary Thoughts: On the other end of the scale, I really did find commentary on Alpha Women fascinating. There is a shift going on between men and women. Some of it good, some of it scary, some of it necessary, and some of it hard to understand. I like how much research (outside of her own) that she drew on to present to the reading audience. The facts and examples she used to present her POV were well developed and made for interesting reading. Even if you consider yourself a little bit Alpha, this will help you see what tendencies you have.Final Thoughts: Overall I liked Sonya's straight to the point message and appreciate the knowledge that she was willing to share.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5It really helped me to recognise the reason behind many of the power struggles in my past relationships. Quite relatable to many modern women.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5Nothing about real attraction. The writer is highly biased, naive and incompetent regarding what drives attraction. She is unaware of the strong biological drivers of the sexes. That's what sometimes happens with people who study too much. It's likely that she did a "scientific" study such as social sciences or gender studies. She is better at relationship dynamics so for people who are already in a relationship. I think she could be a good relationship therapist, but not a dating coach. The title is wrong but it's a good book.
- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5Pushing gender fluid by the 2nd chapter... Disappointing to say the least
