About this audiobook

It's never too late for a miracle.

When an old woman begs God to let her see the daughter who had been taken from her arms almost eighty years before - could her impossible prayer come true?

In the summer of 1928, sixteen-year-old Minka was looking forward to a sewing class picnic. This would be a rare chance to put aside farm chores, don a pretty dress, and enjoy an outing with other girls. It would be a day to remember.

And it was . . . but not in the way Minka had dreamed. Cornered by a stranger in the woods, the young girl was assaulted. Minka still believed that the stork brought babies; she would not discover for months that she was pregnant.

The story that follows has been almost a hundred years in the making. What happens when a new mother must make a heartbreaking sacrifice to give her baby daughter the life she deserves? Can her cherished memories carry her through decades of turmoil, during a rapidly changing time in American history? And in the end, can she trust God for a miracle? The Waiting is an unforgettable true story of faith that triumphs, forgiveness that sets us free, and love that never forgets.

I like that it's a true story and it's a very sweet story but honestly after the first half it gets quite boring. I struggled to finish it. The beginning is very well written. but when they started talking about the daughter's extended family I lost interest quickly.

It's a compelling story, very well researched and lovingly written. I loved hearing references to the neighborhoods and things that were going on in history.

My only disappointment is that no one taught the narrator how to pronounce Viroqua WI. I actually had to say it correctly under my breath every time it was spoken. It's not VEH-rah-kwa, it's Veer-OH-kwa.

I enjoyed this story sooo much. Makes you believe there is always hope and that The power of prayer is real. God took something horrible and turned into someone beautiful. I am so happy you all found each other. With all the misery in this world, it's nice to hear such a wonderful outcome.

What an incredible and inspiring story. If I had read this when it was first published I think I would've found a way to try and meet, if only for a second, this amazing woman. It was written so well that you feel like you witnessed or were a part of every heartbreak and each moment of joy. I will never forget these people whom I've never had the privilege of knowing. Thank you for sharing your lives and your story - their story.
