About this audiobook
The best songs come from broken hearts.
Sixteen-year-old Bird Barrett has grown up on the road, singing backup in her family's bluegrass band, and playing everywhere from Nashville, Tennessee to Nowhere, Oklahoma. One fateful night, Bird fills in for her dad by singing lead, and a scout in the audience offers her a spotlight all her own.
Soon Bird is caught up in a whirlwind of songwriting meetings, recording sessions, and music video shoots. Her first single hits the top twenty, and suddenly fans and paparazzi are around every corner. She's even caught the eye of her longtime crush, fellow roving musician Adam Dean. With Bird's star on the rise, though, tradition and ambition collide. Can Bird break out while staying true to her roots?
In a world of glamour and gold records, a young country music star finds her voice.

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Wildflower was an enjoyable young adult book about a teenage girl breaking into the music business. I thought it was a good story and the feelings of the main character were true to what I would imagine she would be going through in her situation. I will recommend this book and look forward to reading more from this author.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5This book was okay for me. I just couldn't get into the heroine. She just didn't feel real to me. In fact, all the characters were uninteresting. The story just could not hold my interest. I ended up just skimming it towards the end because I wanted to give it a fair chance. The little bit of romance in the book did not amount to much which might have saved it for me. All I can say, was this book was just not my cup of tea. I appreciated winning a copy in the early reviewer giveaway since I love to try new authors but this is one author I may pass over next time. I am just not a fan of her writing style.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Wildflower by Alecia Whitaker is a realistic fiction novel about a girl who becomes famous as a singer. It will be released in July of 2014.Bird is her real name, named after Lady Bird Johnson who's famous for beautifying Texas with wildflowers. Bird is part of the BFB--Barrett Family Band. After their youngest brother dies, the family has trouble finding themselves again; so, a pastor suggests music. Dad gets his banjo down and gets instruments for everyone. Within three years, they are touring on the road, which has brought them together. They live in a RV called Winnie, travel to gigs most of the night, are home schooled, and perform at night. Bird has to sing lead when their Dad catches a cold and loses his voice. A scout happens to be in attendance and wants to sign Bird, not the family. They believe what is good for one is good for the family. Most of the novel focuses on Bird. She doesn't become too good for herself or her family and never loses who she is. She loves her family and has a crush on Adam, a fellow traveling musician. Once the record deal is signed, Bird loses control of much of the process. She meets a songwriter, Shannon, who helps her hone her skill, as the songs are all written by Bird. Shannon's daughter Stella becomes Bird's best friend. It's always been hard to have friends traveling and Bird has three brothers. It's nice for Bird to have a girl to talk to about Adam and with whom to go shopping. Stella encourages Bird to text Adam and they begin a tentative relationship.I liked all of the characters; there wasn't anyone evil or mean. Bird's family is nice, although stereotypical. I like the plot of the story and enjoyed reading the novel. Apparently, it's going to be a series because the author writes in the acknowledgements to her fans that she "hopes [we] like the series." The book is a good look at the whirlwind of success and how hard it is to stay who you are as a person.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Sixteen year old Bird Barrett travels the country performing with her family’s country/bluegrass band playing the fiddle and singing backup. She is discovered while singing lead for her sick father and is propelled into the life of a recording artist. As Bird grapples with her emerging fame, she must learn the rules of the publicity game and how to hold onto the relationships that she hold dear. As a character, Bird is a realistic and wholesome sixteen year old who really strives to make good decisions. I cringed at times when she had to sacrifice some of herself for the sake of her studio and I look forward to reading about how she handles it all in future books. This is a good young adult book that could be read by younger readers without qualms but is enjoyable for any age. I received this book from the LibraryThing Early Reviewers Giveaway.
