Introduction by Gail Mattern
Grace Livingston Hill
Grace Livingston Hill was an early–twentieth century novelist who wrote both under her real name and the pseudonym Marcia Macdonald. She wrote more than one hundred novels and numerous short stories. She was born in Wellsville, New York, in 1865 to Marcia Macdonald Livingston and her husband, Rev. Charles Montgomery Livingston. Hill’s writing career began as a child in the 1870s, writing short stories for her aunt’s weekly children’s publication, The Pansy. She continued writing into adulthood as a means to support her two children after her first husband died. Hill died in 1947 in Swarthmore, Pennsylvania.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5it probably was going to be a great book. But I couldn't get past the fact that the lady was from Montana but the person reading was from Brooklyn. The accent just kept making me laugh and so I had to stop listening.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Had read the book but never listened to it so decided to give it a try. I wish the other reviewer had stuck with with the narrator as it is a great story... as most all of her books obviously are.

- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5Stupid plot with robotic Boston accented woman narrating. Struggled through the entire book waiting for it to get better, only got worse.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Couldn’t get through the first chapter. It starts great and I can tell it’s a good story but I can’t get passed the narrator’s accent. Her accent is very Eastern and the book is about a girl from Montana. I had to stop listening.
- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5Needs a different narrator! Get someone who doesn’t have a New York accent to read the story.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5A clean, sweet story! I enjoyed it. I believe the narration was done by a volunteer. I'm grateful. It enabled me to listen to a story written long ago.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Loved the book. I never could get used to the reader though. The accent was difficult to hear.
