About this audiobook

Roger Mifflin is the somewhat eccentric proprietor of The Haunted Bookshop, a second-hand bookstore in Brooklyn that is "haunted by the ghosts of all great literature." Beginning with the arrival of a young advertising man and the mysterious disappearance of a certain volume from the shelves of the bookshop, a lively and often humorous tale of intrigue unfolds, generously sprinkled with liberal doses of Roger's unique philosophy on literature and book selling. Very engaging, and didn't go the way I expected. The narration is very well done too.

Also, if you're looking for some examples of how much culture has changed--and not changed--in the last 100 years, this is a good one. The "hero" of the story has some inner monologues that are downright crazy by modern standards. "What right has she to be so beautiful and distracting! Why...why I would like to beat her!" Wow. And that's just one example of the yikes going on with this Guthrie dude.
