About this audiobook
The book is about three families in England at the beginning of the twentieth century. The three families represent different gradations of the Edwardian middle class: the Wilcoxes, who are rich capitalists with a fortune made in the Colonies; the half-German Schlegel siblings (Margaret, Tibby, and Helen), who represent the intellectual bourgeoisie and have a lot in common with the real-life Bloomsbury Group; and the Basts, a couple who are struggling members of the lower-middle class. The Schlegel sisters try to help the poor Basts and try to make the Wilcoxes less prejudiced. The motto of the book is "Only connect..."
E. M. Forster
Edward Morgan Forster (1879–1970) was born in London and attended the Tonbridge School and King’s College, Cambridge. A substantial inheritance from his aunt gave Forster the freedom to pursue a literary career and travel extensively, and he wrote some of the finest novels of the twentieth century, including A Room with a View, A Passage to India, and Howards End. Queen Elizabeth II awarded him the Order of Merit in 1969.

Reviews for Howards End

- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5The nerve of this company scribd. The selections for audiobooks are increasingly more and more librebox recordings and less of any other good quality recording label.
Why am I paying a monthly membership for librebox recordings? These are free in the public domain. And the quality is very bad, read by amateur volunteers. They change readers during the book - every chapter sometimes, and there’s a static noise in the background. These amateur readers are mostly no fun to listen to. It ruins my interest in the book. I will be canceling my subscription.
