- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Note that this book is not of the 21st century but was written at the end of World War I. In spite of its age, the presentation and tone are generally modern.
I found the book to be enlightening regarding several technologies. For instance, there is a detailed and logical explanation of the distinctions between mortars, howitzers, and artillery guns.
The innovations and technologies discussed in the book bear out the old saying that necessity is the mother of invention. Many of them are quite clever. It is interesting for modern ears to learn how certain problems were addressed without the benefit of modern technologies (e.g., computers, sensors, etc).
This book is well recommended to anyone with an interest in the First World War or in 20th century military history.
