About this audiobook

#1 New York Times bestselling author Ilona Andrews launches a brand-new Hidden Legacy series, in which one woman must place her trust in a seductive, dangerous man who sets off an even more dangerous desire . . .

Nevada Baylor is faced with the most challenging case of her detective career—a suicide mission to bring in a suspect in a volatile situation. Nevada isn't sure she has the chops. Her quarry is a Prime, the highest rank of magic user, who can set anyone and anything on fire.

Then she's kidnapped by Connor "Mad" Rogan—a darkly tempting billionaire with equally devastating powers. Torn between wanting to run and wanting to surrender to their overwhelming attraction, Nevada must join forces with Rogan to stay alive.

Rogan's after the same target, so he needs Nevada. But she's getting under his skin, making him care about someone other than himself for a change. And, as Rogan has learned, love can be as perilous as death, especially in the magic world.

Author

Ilona Andrews

“Ilona Andrews” is the pseudonym for a husband-and-wife writing team. Ilona is a native-born Russian, and Gordon is a former communications sergeant in the U.S. Army. Contrary to popular belief, Gordon was never an intelligence officer with a license to kill, and Ilona was never the mysterious Russian spy who seduced him. They met in college, in English Composition 101, where Ilona got a better grade. (Gordon is still sore about that.) They have co-authored four New York Times and USA Today bestselling series: the urban fantasy of Kate Daniels, rustic fantasy of the Edge, paranormal romance of Hidden Legacy, and Innkeeper Chronicles. They live in Texas with their two children and many dogs and cats.

Excellent narrator. Urban fantasy setting that's more x-men than vampires and fae etc. Compelling mystery with constant danger, a cute romance subplot, and a funny family of private investigators. Loved it.

I loved the book! The most annoying part from the narrator was doing one voice for the protagonist at the beginning of the book, a deeper manly voice. At the end of the book, the narrator makes him sound like a 15 year old kid. That right there was enough to ruin the audiobook.

A very average urban fantasy verging on paranormal romance. The worldbuilding is ok, but not captivating. The characters the same - they do the job, but don't really come to live. Despite an intriguing premise, the whole thing comes across as rather cookie cutter.

Good story but a bit repetitive. The narrator was ok but could do with a different voice for the Male parts.

I’ve had this one on standby for a long time and with book 4 of the series releasing soon, I decided to dive in.

This is another action packed read by this amazing writing duo and it’s impossible not to compare it to their Kate Daniels series. I enjoyed that this has a more present feel to it rather than a post-apocalyptic one. One of the things I really liked was the presence of Nevada’s family. They make her distinctive from Kate and their arguments, banter and support was fun and realistic. I wasn’t sure how far into paranormal or sci-fi this was going to go but I was pleased where this one took us. Wild enough to shock and awe but tame enough to be able to vividly imagine each scene. I did struggle some to visualize Kate’s world.

I’m a romance junkie so I especially loved meeting Connor “Mad” Rogan. When the carnations arrived I knew that Rogan was going to a great hero. From that point onward I was reading all kinds of little things into his actions and words. Not that they weren’t there prior to that event, but he’s kind of a hard one to read.

I loved the unfolding of this case and how the relationship between this hero and heroine develop. There’s a bit of push and pull with Nevada, but I think that’s just going to make Rogan chase her all the more. The culmination of their case was off the charts and just as I was taking a deep breath and relaxing because it was over, I hit the epilogue! I think I’m going to be addicted to this series just as much, if not more, than KD.

I really love this book! Granted, Nevada's angst gets to me and is annoying, but Conner's resolution in the end to get her in his life perks me right up!

Reneé Raudman did a really good job performing this story! I thoroughly enjoyed her narration.

Oh! By the way, Conner "Mad" Rogan is my new book husband. Yes, I divorced Harry Stratton Trevelian after 21 years of marriage to marry him in 2018. And I couldn't be happier about it!

Amazing series starter! Nevada is a strong grounded heroine faced with an impossible choices: go up against a powerful pyrokinetic or lose her family’s livelihood.

The world building is believable and layered.

The weakness of the story lies in the secondary characters, not a lot of interest there. Just teens being teens and CEOs being CEOs. It’s a desperately shallow pond.

Still a page turner, moving on to book two.

Urban Fantasy with action and a bit of romance.

This book has a bit of a slow start due to the need to lay out Nevada's family and their business dynamics, as well as the social, and family business structures that make up their world. I love Nevada's family. Especially her mom and grandma.

The story picks up when Nevada gets sent out on a job that requires her to play an extremely dangerous game of Cat and Mouse with the spoiled son of a powerful family. His Mom wants him brought home alive, the law wants him brought in dead or alive. He just wants to burn things up.

Along comes 'Mad' Rogan who kidnaps Nevada because he needs i fo she can give him. This begins a business/? relationship of mutual need. Neither of which are these two headstrong people are ready to acknowledge or name. But, they have to deal with the growing dangers the selfish Pyro represents.

Action, danger, and burning lust ensue. Once Nevada and Rogan met. I was hooked. Great story, characters, and pace. I can't wait to read the next book in this series.

I was completely blown away by BURN FOR ME which begins an new urban fantasy series. The main character and the narrator of the story is Nevada Baylor. She and her family - mother, grandmother, younger sisters and younger cousins - run a small private investigations business. She isn't a member of any of the magical houses that have divided up Houston and she isn't known to be a powerful magic user. When her father was dying, the family mortgaged the business to Montgomery International Investigations. Now MII has invoked one clause of the contract and has demanded that Nevada locate a powerful Prime named Adam Pierce and turn him over to his family. MII knows Nevada is overmatched; they want her to fail.Adam's magical power is fire-starting and he is on a rampage through Houston. Houston cops are eager to shoot him on sight. Nevada has no choice but to try to track him down and convince him to surrender to his House. Mad Rogan is also interested in finding Adam Pierce. Rogan's cousin's son was with Pierce when he firebombed a bank and killed a guard. The boy is now also wanted for murder. Rogan's loyalty to his family is his trigger. Rogan is an immensely talented magic user who can bring down buildings. He had a successful military career and has become an object of fear to most.Nevada isn't interested in working with Rogan, especially when their relationship begins with him kidnapping her and trying to force her to tell him what she knows about Pierce. Nevada uses her own not-inconsiderable magical talents to thwart him. The two do work together despite gross reservations on Nevada's part. She is fascinated by him and sexually attracted to him but she doesn't like him or the way he lives his life. She can't trust him and believes that he is a psycopath. Beyond the action scenes which were very prevalent and dramatic, the whole book is a flirtation between the two of them. They are learning about each other and getting to want each other more with each page. Many of the scenes between them are super hot with romantic tension.I loved Nevada's voice and her determination to protect her family. I liked her strong values and her determination to be able to look herself in the face at the end of each day. This determination guides her actions and illuminates her character. The only bad part about reading an October release in July is that I will have to wait so terribly long for the next book in this series. I wonder if I can pre-order it yet?

I think I’m getting to the point where I’ve read too much by the Gordon team. Yes, there is such a point. I’m starting to catch their plot tricks and story fillers, and they’re starting to bother me a bit. That does not mean I won’t be continuing -- this was a fun book, and a great way to give myself a break after some heavier reading, and I’m all for fun.

This book, man. I don’t know if it’s just because I’ve been away from Urban Fantasy for WAY too long, if it was just really a fantastic story, or my brain is broke (quite possibly all of the above) but I’ve been in a book funk since finishing because I can’t find anything to compare. The publisher was kind enough to send me an ARC of this waaaay back in September 2014 but it sat gathering dust. Why? Well, not to be a cover snob, but have you seen that thing? Despite my love of Andrews’ Kate Daniels series, I just never got around to starting this one. I picked this one up at random this past week, read like a maniac till I finished, and now I’ve read the first page of about a dozen books and nothing is enticing me.So for starters, I’m NOT going off that horrendously awful cover because good gawd the CHEESE. Their “Rogan” interpretation isn’t really all that hot (sorry random cover dude) so I took it upon myself to picture Tom Hardy which definitely helps things. Okay, honestly all of my fictional man crushes take the appearance of Tom Hardy but WHATEVER. I do what I want.It has to be said: I’m really not one for fictional man crushes. I don’t obsess over “ships” or any of that. Kind of rethinking that stance after this read because good gawd, the swoons were severe. Rogan is not only charming in that way only the boys steeped in danger can be but his zingy one-liners were a constant source of laughs for me.“Hold on. I’m trying to figure out a place where nobody will recognize us.”“If you prefer, I can acquire a windowless creeper van, and we can huddle in it and have greasy takeout.”“Yes, I’m a hermit. Mostly I brood,” Mad Rogan said. “Also, I’m very good at wallowing in self-pity. I spend my days steeped in melancholy, looking out the window. Occasionally a single tear quietly rolls down my cheek.”“If you keep wiggling, things might get uncomfortable,” he said into my ear, his voice like a caress. “I’m doing my best, but thinking about baseball only takes you so far.” I froze.I legit did this clapping giggly thing at one point then looked up and realized I had forgotten I was in public. I’m a nutter, I know, but this book just totally hit the right spot. But moving on from Tom Hardy, ahem, Rogan…SO, the plot. Burn For Me is set in a fascinating world where a serum was created in the 1800s which brought out latent magical powers in individuals. It was used by the military, politicians, and anyone that could afford to get a hold of it. These magical talents were different for everyone and they were passed down to their children making picking a spouse of the utmost importance. Magical families were considered to be “Houses” (i.e. House Rogan, House Pierce) and the stronger the House, the more influential and powerful the family members. In the very beginning, Kelly Waller is distraught about her missing son Gavin after him and another boy, Adam Pierce, were involved in an arson that resulted in the deaths of a police officer and his family. She reaches out to her cousin, Mad Rogan, who is infamous for his magical powers and the destruction he brings, to bring him safely home. Trouble is, someone else is on the trail of Adam Pierce: Nevada Baylor, private investigator. Naturally, Rogan and Nevada cross paths. *cue giggles* The two realize that there is something far bigger at work here than just a random arson incident and it forces them to work together to stop the next attack.Seriously though, I loved this, and Nevada and Rogan’s chemistry were off the charts. The naiveté that I find typical in stories of this ilk with the woman falling for the bad guy was completely absent here, thankfully. Nevada and Rogan first began working together (after he briefly kidnapped her, of course, ha) and she was determined to keep it professional. She may have ended up becoming attracted to him but the fact that she recognizes the danger he represents and isn’t idiotically oblivious made it so much more tolerable. The build up was perfect and I’m oh so anxious for the next installment… which doesn’t come out till May 2017. I know, right? That’s not a typo. In addition to the sexual chemistry, there were so many fantastic side characters that made this story even more enjoyable. Nevada’s Grandma specifically was all kinds of hilarious in her obsession over hot, younger men.“Did you know that Adam Pierce showed up at our house last night?”Grandma’s eyes went wide. “He was here?”“She met him outside.”Grandma swung toward me. “Did you take any pictures? […] Pictures or it didn’t happen!” Grandma declared. This was really so much fun though and highly recommended for all you Urban Fantasy fans. Hoping now that I’ve sufficiently gushed about this one I can now find my next read. Wish me luck, guys.

A magic private investigator has to bring in a super-powered outlaw.2.5/4 (Okay). The fantasy stuff is pretty interesting, but doesn't get explored enough. The action stuff is good, but it's nothing special and too military-obsessed for my taste. The romance stuff is awful. Internally, it's all about obsessing over how good-looking the guy is. Externally, just about the only thing that happens is assault, repeatedly. I'll read at least one more book in the series, and hope they keep building on the fantasy elements.(Sep 2022)

This book was much more than I expected, and the cover does it no favors. This is So much more than your standard paranormal romance. It was thrilling, sexy, funny and thoroughly entertaining. It has great characters, lots of tension, and the plot ebbed and flowed so beautifully. I already have book two on hold at my library.

AAAAAAUUUURGHGHHGHGH!!!! What do you mean I have to wait for the next book to come out?!? WHY?!?!?!?!

My favorite writers of badass women in magically destroyed southern cities have a new series out. This time, it's Houston under the knife (glee!) and a wonderful new private detective who puts her family first. Delicious magics, swoony love interest, highly amusing snark. Hooray!

My husband saw the title of this book last night and rolled his eyes so hard they almost fell clean out of his head. And I agree with him; as a reader who struggles with romance, it was a bit hard to swallow buying a book called Burn for Me. But I love Ilona Andrews Kate Daniels series and her Innkeeper series has hooked me in spite of the sci-fi vibe it sometimes has. This one didn't disappoint either. And let me say up front that though this is categorised on the back of the novel as 'paranormal romance', it's definitely not. It's much more solidly in the urban fantasy category; full of sexual tension but no sex. The PNR designation might be because of the inevitability of romance in the future books, but so far, this is no more paranormal romance than the Kate Daniels series is. I like Rogan. I think the Andrews' team is setting up its readers in this first book, convincing them that Rogan is the anti-hero, but there's enough information sprinkled throughout the text that leads me to believe he is anything but. He strikes me as a very human and moral character that made the hard calls and took a lot onto himself in order to spare others. He's not a ball of emotions, certainly - no warm and fuzzies are going to be found coming out of him, but I like him. He's decisive and expressive in the ways that count. I also like Nevada, she's neither whiney nor angsty, and she's not the strongest magical person in the room wherever she goes. So far. The only thing I didn't like was: her seemingly purposeful obtuseness concerning her own Prime status - she's a PI for heaven's sake, how is she not putting 2 and 2 together? As much as I got thoroughly and completely sucked into this story, the plot could have been tighter. There were several moments, looking back, where the storyline wanders or stalls a bit in terms of plot. This is a lot of book for what amounts to nothing more than a story arc setup. And I suspect there's a timeline continuity error, but I'd have to re-read the book to be sure (I'm almost certain Nevada heard from Adam after the attack on her house, though she tells the DA she hasn't). But never once did I get impatient or bored - from cover to cover I never want to put it down. Thank god I've already bought books 2 and 3.

I liked the world building, with the powerful magic houses completely dominating the less powerful and powerless. The magic system seems well thought out and logical. The setting is interesting, with the family making a house out of the business's warehouse. I also like that the main character seems under-powered, being able to tell if someone is lying isn't going to be much help if a mage is throwing fireballs at her.

    What I didn't like.
I hated almost every male character in the book, first she is manipulated by a corporate type into putting herself and family into danger. The the two male leads are both asshats. Adam Pierce the bad-boy bad guy doesn't care who he hurts, and just takes what he wants. Connor Mad Rogan is pretty much the same, he joined the army to kill people without consequence, the one nice thing we see him doing, giving a vet a job might be just as much for Rogan's benefit as the vets.

The good outweighed the bad so I'll be reading book 2 starting it today.
