About this audiobook
Jane Haddam
Jane Haddam (1951–2019) was an American author of mysteries. Born Orania Papazoglou, she worked as a college professor and magazine editor before publishing her Edgar Award–nominated first novel, Sweet, Savage Death, in 1984. This mystery introduced Patience McKenna, a sleuthing scribe who would go on to appear in four more books, including Wicked, Loving Murder (1985) and Rich, Radiant Slaughter (1988). Not a Creature Was Stirring (1990) introduced Haddam’s best-known character, former FBI agent Gregor Demarkian. The series spans more than twenty novels, many of them holiday-themed, including Murder Superior (1993), Fountain of Death (1995), and Wanting Sheila Dead (2005). Haddam’s later novels include Blood in the Water (2012) and Hearts of Sand (2013).

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Gregor is at meeting trying to resolve the issue of a mortgage forclosure of a friend when he gets an emergency phone call from his wife Bennis. She is beside herself because their closet friend, Father Tabor has been arrested for murder and she wants Gregor to come home immediately and get to the bottom of the situation and fix it. There's a scarey big surprise ending.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Gregor Demarkian has a most baffling case on his hands … and it hits very close to home. His friend and parish priest, Father Tibor Kasparian, is arrested for the brutal murder of a local judge in her chambers. There’s a video recording that appears to show him hammering the victim with her own gavel. Tibor is not talking to anyone, not his lawyer, not the police and certainly not to Gregor. No one who knows Father Kasparian believes for a minute that he could have murdered anyone. This case takes our hero into the murky world of for-profit prisons, bribery, and juvenile justice. The Gregor Demarkian mysteries are quick reads, compelling in a quirky way. Usually, the “Armenian-American Hercule Peroit” is taken away from his Philadelphia neighborhood as a police consultant. In this case, he’s not officially on the case, and only has entrée to the police world through a circuitous route. I’ve read most of the books in this series and have always enjoyed them – it’s one of my guilty pleasures. This one could have used a good dose of copy-editing to clear up some obvious errors and grammatical mistakes.
