About this audiobook

New York Times bestselling author Kerrelyn Sparks delivers the exciting conclusion in the Love at Stake series, where a Marine-turned-vampire finds love with the shifter princess forbidden to him.

Russell wakes from a coma to find he's become a vampire. Now he has a thirst for revenge. Determined to hunt down the master vampire who turned him, he's used to working alone - until he meets Jia. She is after the same vampire for murdering her parents and insists she can help Russell on this mission. Reluctantly, he agrees, and sets up some ground rules:

Rule #1: Their partnership is strictly business. If he holds her a little too close . . . if she looks at him with those exotic eyes . . . well, that has to stop.

Rule #2: He's in charge. Jia isn't used to taking orders and questions every move he makes. So he stops her the only way he knows how.

Rule #3: Don't fall in love. But the kiss that was supposed to quiet her awakens something else in him . . . something forbidden. Because Jia is engaged. To someone else.

Crouching Tiger, Forbidden Vampire is the final installment in the Love At Stake Series. Its a bittersweet feeling. Although it came to no surprise to me. All the major players in the series have had their own story, and this story was so much above my expectations. The last book left off with a bit of a cliffhanger. The hunt for Han and the demon he works for is on going, but Russell, has a personal vendetta against him. Russell was turned into a vampire against his will, and was put in a coma for over thirty years, where he lost everything, his parents, his wife and his daughter and the life he knew. All that drives him is to get revenge and kill the one that ruined his life. When he finally after two years finds Han, and is about to kill him, a woman, a were tiger princess, has her own mission to kill Han and ruins all of his intentions. At first he is furious, but then he reluctantly agrees to work with Jia. Jia lost her family to Han and he mutilated her family, and all she feels is revenge until she meets Russell. Their purpose is one in the same, but also a vibrant desire erupts between them, and even though Pia is engaged and has other duties has princess of her people, she can't deny her feelings for Russell. This is the 16th installment in the series, and it really tied up all loose ends from the previous book. There is even a small sub plot for Rijav, but its small, and I would have loved seeing his story and maybe someday Sparks will do it. In her authors note, she mentioned that for now she is putting this series on hold, and may come back to it eventually, but for now she wants to work on other writing projects---very intriguing. Even though I am quite sad that this series has ended, since I have loved every book, and this story was quite a adventure and had some exciting moments that really kept me fully engaged. The characters were sensational, and they really were easy to connect with and you can't help but fall for them. Pia was a great heroine, I really liked her inside and out. Pia has had to learn to be a fighter, she is passionate and strong, and I felt like her character was so carefree and passionate. Russell, is a good hero, not my favorite of the series, but he is a survivor, and you really seem him grow in this story. Where he goes from a recluse, a loner, to a man that learns the value of love and family. We see these two learn quite a few things together, and what conflict they face and really brings them close together. There is some heated moments between these two, not very heavy but not too light...it is balanced with the other aspects of the plot, so you see how it all fits together and the flow was quite smoother than you expect. I was really fond of this one, it had many elements that make up a great romance and I enjoyed the variety of paranormal aspects that combine into a stellar read!!Overall a paranormal romance with a mixture of a vampire, tiger shifters, and angels and demons mixed in with a spicy romance that will leave you feeling satisfied for days!! A BOOK TO WATCH FOR!!

The HEAVENLY HOST RUN SCREAMING FROM THIS BOOK...AND so should you.
This book is a bust on many levels.. First Mr.Morales's narration is atrocious!! He has two tones questioning and flat. He has a lovely tonal quality to his voice but no emotion at all. (What happened to Roman's accent? He has had one since Marry a Millionaire. It was an unusual way to end a series? its fiction fantasy, I completely understand. But Jia lives in a third world close-knit community? And yet she changes completely from traditional to "valley girl"' in one week?

If a writer is going to use an exotic location/culture in their work then perhaps they should research it. and not just throw in any of thing/cultural action. In my opinion, this was a sad ending to a cute seriesI. very nice and unique

Many years ago someone recommended the first book in the love at the stake series to me. I picked it up and I have never laughed and cried so much! I was hooked, I was rooting for the characters like they were my fiends. I have followed the series meeting new people and following their story. Now it was the mysterious Russell’s turn. I was thrilled! This story did not disappoint! I was laughing and crying and still cheering them on! It was a great way to wrap up the series (for now). I look forward to hearing more of their stories and pray we get to follow along with all the adventures of the children as they become adults.

First things first, I loved the story. It was a slow burn romance but more sexy compared to her Embraced series. There's plenty of action and a solid plot, lots of characters I believe are from previous books. The entire villain motivations got sort weak towards the end and some things were sort of left out and forgotten about but I didn't really care too much since I read this mainly for the romance. The heroine is engaged to another person, but not really. She didn't even know about it until her cousins told her and she never wanted it so I wouldn't really call that engaged since it's against her wishes. The one thing that bothered me was the surprise dead spouse of the hero. He did had a wife and a child before he became a vampire which served to strengthen his motivations I believe to kill the villain but it is a big pet peeve of mine. Like he would still be with his wife and child living a normal life if he hadn't been turned into a vampire.

I loved the heroine. She was charming, cute, innocent and could fight. I loved how her just plain goodness and sweetness knocked the hero to his feet all the time. The hero respected her abilities and let her fight and participate in his quest for revenge and called themselves 'partners'.

I liked the narrator. He had a nice steady voice, but not much different types of voices. I still could tell the difference between characters though.

Unfortunately this is the last in this series, but I'm still OK with that because I've only read a few of them. This author has a way of enticing the reader to start anywhere and do just fine, but leaves the reader desperately wanting to read more in the series to find the *whys* and the *how did that come to be*. Basic premise is that one vampire is a chemical genius with no desire to kill humans and therefore he develops a synthetic blood, makes a boatload of money, and his *factory* is staffed and secured by other vampires as well as shifters. Each book is a romance/suspense thriller/great fun. This entrant is a vengeful vamp living in the depths of China near a village of tiger shifters and each of them want to destroy the evil vampire warlord. No spoilers, read the book! The audio was narrated by Enrique Morales, and he does a superior performance with all of the males, and it doesn't take long before the listener forgets that it is a man portraying Jia (female protagonist).

Review courtesy of All Things Urban FantasyCROUCHING TIGER, FORBIDDEN VAMPIRE, the last book of the Love at Stake series has it all, from sweeping action, to tough as nails heroes, and a sweet romance between two very different people. In a previous review of another book in this series I complained that the much more interesting plot was overshadowed by the romance. In CROUCHING TIGER, FORBIDDEN VAMPIRE there is thankfully a balance and the romance actually works within the plot. The plot was exciting, pacing steady and the story was just plain exciting to read.Jia's got spunk and combined with her very determined quest to avenge her family's death she proves to be an incredibly passionate and strong individual. Granted her fighting skills at the start of the book leave a lot to be desired but I gave her points for determination. Russell is Batman. No wait stay with me here! He has a cave, is a recluse, has gadgets, wears a lot of black. He also talks like Christian Bale's Batman in my head. He is a vampire Batman full of brooding and a thirst for vengeance which is pretty awesome. I enjoyed seeing how Jia grew and learned from Russell and how they were eventually able to find some sort of common ground which lead to an eventual steamy romance. Both of them eventually grew to not only love each other but respect one another for their strengths which I always like to see in a romance.CROUCHING TIGER, FORBIDDEN VAMPIRE is filled with exciting twists and turns and strong, interesting characters. It was a satisfying end to the Love at Stake series and I look forward to seeing what Kerrelyn Sparks has in store next.

I loved this paranormal series and the exciting grand finale in this last book was great with all the characters coming together. The intrigue and outcome of this story was good too and I particularly like the heroine's assertiveness. Vampire Russell is attempting to kill his nemesis when were-tiger Jia gets in the way.

The unlikely pairing of a male vampire and a female weretiger, meeting up when both are attempting to kill the same vampire lord who destroyed both of their lives. He’s spent the last 2 years tracking Lord Han and prefers to do it alone and not let anyone get close. She’s a princess who has been training to take out Lord Han for the past 13 years since she saw him kill her family, yet everyone attempts to stop her from getting her vengeance. But Jia is determined to not only have her chance, but to partner up with Russell in doing so.Tension and humor as she’s just learned her grandfather had arranged her marriage to a prince who will be traveling soon to come get her, as well as the fact that considering the problems the weretigers have experienced for years with Lord Han, as a whole they aren’t too accepting of vampires. It’s been years since I picked up a book in this series. Not because I wasn’t enjoying them, but with money and time constraints you have to pick and choose. So I haven’t read this in awhile and I don’t recall much from the past, much less any names and it seems the story arc has changed quite a bit. But it’s obvious that many of the secondary characters and situations leading up to this story had been showcased in prior books. Wow, I’ve missed a lot. And yet while I don’t feel you have to read those prior books in order to enjoy this humorous and touching story, I believe I would have had even more appreciation for this tale and given it an additional star rating.

Russell and Jia were another great example of love conquering all. While I was sad to see the series come to an end, I was happy with the way it wrapped up and hold out hope that some day we may see characters from this world again.Audio Thoughts: Narrated By Enrique Morales / Length: 9 hrs and 2 mins Enrique did an EXCELLENT job with the pacing and Russell's voice. In fact, I liked the slight cowboy drawl a whole bunch. The other accents were handled with great care too. Jia's voice took a bit to get used too but once that happened I was totally on board with this audiobook. Overall a downright pretty good job!Part of my Read it, Rate it, File it, DONE! Reviews
