Nice story. Quite predictable but that did not detract from the beauty of the story

I had a problem with this book skipping on chapters 8,12,&14. And while I loved Jack the hero I just couldn't truly like Linnet. The author did a good job of making the reader understand the motivation of each character including Linnet but While I understood her rationalization I couldn't get past that it was in fact rationalization. She was so sure of her judgements that even when it was obvious she was wrong or missing something she rationalized it away and kept on with her plans.

Catch A Falling Heiress was a sexy and sweet historical romance that gave me barrels and barrels of laughs...Guhrke really outdid herself this time. I was beyond satisfied after reading this one. In this installment, we have Jack's story...and I was really excited for it, especially after reading the blurb. After the previous book came out, and I loved it, I couldn't wait for this one. The first book I have yet to read...but it is high on my priority this for the year so hopefully I will get it read and soon.Jack Featherstone, has been asked by his friend to go to America, to get justice for a man who is unscrupulous. A man who hides beneath his charm and handsome facade. So Jack trusting his friend, goes to the America's. Now it has been close to a year, and their plan to get justice is about to succeed, but then Jack sees Linnet and is captivated, but when he learns that her "Intended" is the man he knows horrid secrets about, he knows he has to stop her from making a grave mistake. Linnet has been all over Europe to satisfy her mothers wishes to marry a titled lord. But that is the last thing that Linnet wants, she is content with her life in America, but when a certain English Lord causes a scandal, she is now ruined and is furious. But Linnet isn't one to just back down and give into what society expects of her. Jack doesn't regret his actions, but hates that Linnet was put in the crossfire, especially when she can never know the reasons why. Now he must convince her of his genuine devotion to her to make her his wife, and that he wants her and not her dowry...but Linnet is stubborn and this pair will have to learn about trust or it could tear them apart...One of my favorite things about Laura Lee Gurhke is her magical way of weaving a story of passion and adventure...and turn it into a gorgeous romance that keeps you enchanted from beginning to end. I couldn't help but get fully into this one, and it was no hardship either. These two have amazing chemistry, even if they tend to go into denial about their feelings for each other. Jack, is a man of honor and loyalty, and never breaks his word. He is quite a rake at times, but he also has good intentions and what a lovely hero he was. He is so devoted to Linnet, despite the way she treats him at times, and he is tenacious when it comes to proving to her he cares for her. I was pretty much on his side for the whole story...there was just something about his character that really appealed to me in a certain way. There were so many elements to his character that made his seem real and human. Linnet...well she was alright for a heroine. I found that she could be a bit obnoxious at times, and a little self righteous, but she does prove herself. and she grew on me as the story progressed. The plot was pretty well thought out, and as you read this one, you definitely see this author's talent, and what a fun way this story turned out for me. I really loved the connection, and the intrigue especially at the beginning, that really sets the tone for the story. The romance had its rocky stops, but there was something very intense and emotional to it that keeps you anxious and what a amazing book that won me over!! Laura Lee Gurhkre, just never falters...her books are stellar, her writing is phenomenal and Catch a Falling Heiress is one ride you don't want to miss!!

I read all of it. The story was ...ok. It didn't draw me in... the heroine was a bit too bitchy and the hero a bit too smug. It has the bones of being good, but somehow didn't make it for me.

I ended up enjoying the chemistry between the OTP, but the heroine annoyed me at first and for quite awhile after. The hero wasn't all that, either, and I found it a little unbelievable that his sister-in-law just changed her mind about him quite as sharply as she did. I know she married one of his best friends, but still... Belinda wasn't written that way initially, and she had a lot of resentment toward Featherstone. Anyway, still a good book, but it could have been better.

Series note: This is book #3 in the series and the groundwork for the initial plot is laid in book #2. This should be taken into consideration when deciding to read.

Oy! This is such a disappointment as, despite a promising start, the plot and the romance fall apart just after the halfway mark.

The beginning is engaging as readers are introduced to Jack Featherstone, a rakish ne'er-do-well, who unwittingly compromises the beautiful Linnet Holland when he attempts to rescue her from a depraved suitor. Linnet is not at all pleased by his actions, and their love-hate relationship commences with some excellent banter and bickering.

Unfortunately, the story loses momentum halfway through just as it should be getting exciting with Linnet and Jack putting aside their differences and getting to know one another. In fact, this section ruins the rest of the book as the reader soon realizes that neither Jack nor Linnet are particularly likable.

Jack initially comes across as honorable despite his rash behavior, but this is soon undermined by his decision to keep an annoying secret. Linnet isn't much better as her independent streak is merely a facade for a spoiled, sullen and stubborn girl quite willing to cut off her nose to spite her face.

The romance is lackluster as they have little to no chemistry, and it is never clear what Jack sees in Linnet other than overwhelming lust, and Linnet eventual acquiescence to his advances remains unexplained.

All in all, a very weak addition to an otherwise enjoyable series although I did have issues with the first two books as well. Hopefully, the fourth and final book will end on a high note.

Laura Lee Guhrke continues her “An American Heiress in London" series with Catch a Falling Heiress. It starts with a group of friends who plot to ruin a man. Stuart, the Duke of Margrave (his story is in How to Lose a Duke in Ten Days), has called his friends together to ask them to hem him ruin an American who has committed crimes against women, including his wife. His friends include Jack, the Earl of Featherstone, Denys, Lord Somerton, James, the Earl of Hayward, and Nick, the Marquess of Trubridge. Since this plan to ruin Frederick Van Hausen will involve going to New York and will take time, Jack agrees to be the one to go since he has no family ties and no responsibilities.Jack arrives in the fall of 1889 and after months of work he and his friends have put Van Hausen in a financial vice. Van Hausen has 3 days to pay back his investors or face charges of fraud and embezzlement. At a Newport ball Jack and his friends are watching their prey squirm. However, a beautiful woman arrives at the ball and it looks like Van Hausen may have found a way out of his troubles. But he doesn't know Jack. As Jack foils Van Hausen's plan for salvation, he creates problems for the woman. This begins the tumultuous love story of Jack Featherstone and Linnet Holland.Linnet has just come back from a trip to Europe where a British fortune hunter broke her heart. So when Frederick Van Hausen declares his new found love for her, she remembers her school girl crush and falls for it. Plus, she wants to marry an American, unlike her mother who wants her to marry a British peer and broaden her horizons. But her choice to meet Frederick alone in the pagoda has life changing consequences. Jack follows her to prevent Van Hausen from taking advantage of her. The meeting ends up with Frederick lying behind a screen knocked out, Jack proposing to Linnet, and her mother along with a notorious gossip catching Jack kissing Linnet. This sets up a battle of wills. Linnet does not want to marry Jack, although her mother and propriety insist. She ends up going to England to engage the help of matchmaker, Lady Trubridge, who happens to be Jack's sister-in-law from her first marriage. (For her story read When the Marquess Met His Match). From then on the challenge is on. Can Jack convince Linnet that he is the right man for her? Can he make her see that saving her reputation is not the only reason he wants to marry her? I enjoyed watching Jack persuade Linnet to marry him and discover along the way that he loves her and wants to spend the rest of his life with her. Likewise, I enjoyed seeing Linnet overcome her family baggage to realize that she loves Jack. It was a bumpy ride to their happy ever after, but worth it. I'm hoping that Ms. Guhrke will find matches for Jack's other single friends. I look forward to their stories.

Good book. Jack has spent a year in the US, working a sting that he and his friends set up to take down a really terrible man. The scheme is just days away from its culmination when the bad guy sets his sights on a rich young woman who would enable him to wiggle free. There's no way that Jack can allow the man to succeed, so he butts in. Unfortunately, his actions create a scandal for the young woman in question, so he does the right thing and proposes.Linnet has spent the last year being paraded around Europe by her mother, who was a titled husband for her daughter. Unfortunately, most of the men who were interested were fortune hunters. Even the one that she thought wanted her for herself, turned out to be just like the rest. Now that she's back home, she wants an American man who will love her for who she is. She's happy when her childhood crush is about to propose, and furious when everything is ruined by the brash Englishman. She doesn't care what anyone says, she's not going to reward him by marrying him. With a ruined reputation at home, she heads back to England to try again there.I liked Jack. He's an honorable man, and a pretty nice one too. I liked the way that he was all in for helping his friends bring down the bad guy. I loved the way that he tried to protect Linnet, and how he stepped up when his methods brought trouble to Linnet. He had never planned to marry because he doesn't have the means to support a family, and he wasn't going to marry for money like most of his family had done. Unfortunately for him, in order to support her, he'll have to take the money that comes with her, making it hard for him to convince Linnet that he isn't a fortune hunter. He had to propose because of the scandal, but what he found was that he really did want Linnet for herself.I was frequently a bit frustrated by Linnet. I really did understand her problem with the way her mother was pushing her toward a man with a title, not caring if he actually had feelings for Linnet. Her hurt when she discovered that the one man she thought wanted her for herself was just another fortune hunter was understandable, as was her desire to leave it all behind and go back to the life she knew. I couldn't believe it when she fell for the bad guy's sudden desire for her, to the point of agreeing to meet him alone. She wasn't happy with Jack's supposed rescue of her, especially when it landed her in the middle of scandal. She didn't want to be forced into marrying him, but just when she thought she'd have the support of her father, she discovered that he had his own agenda for her marriage. I liked that she had the strength of will to stand up for what she wanted and to go after it.I loved seeing their relationship develop. Linnet was adamant in her determination to marry on her own terms. She was also determined to resist all of Jack's attempts to convince her to marry him. She didn't count on the fact that he was just as determined that she would marry him. There were two things working against him. First, that she believed he just wanted her money, and second, that she didn't trust her own judgment when it came to any feelings she did have for him. I loved seeing all the things that Jack did while trying to court her. Some were sweet, some were not, but all of them were aimed at breaking down her resistance. There were some terrific scenes that involved him showing her how the other contenders were wrong for her. There were also some places where he was very good at stoking the flames that were there between them, using them to show her that they belonged together. Not everything goes smoothly, and Jack manages to make a few mistakes along the path to matrimony. The final one looks like it could put an end to all his hopes, but in the end he is able to make her understand. Linnet has to face her own mistakes and fears before she can bring herself to trust Jack and trust herself. I loved the final scene as they open up their hearts to each other and talk about their plans for the future.
