About this audiobook
In this much anticipated sequel to The True Meaning of Smekday, Tip and J.Lo are back for another hilarious intergalactic adventure. And this time (and last time, and maybe next time), they want to make things right with the Boov.
After Tip and J.Lo banished the Gorg from Earth in a scheme involving the cloning of many, many cats, the pair is notorious-but not for their heroics. Instead, human Dan Landry has taken credit for conquering the Gorg, and the Boov blame J.Lo for ruining their colonization of the planet. Determined to clear his name, J.Lo and Tip pack into Slushious, a Chevy that J.Lo has engineered into a fairly operational spaceship, and head to New Boovworld, the aliens' new home on one of Saturn's moons.
But their welcome isn't quite as warm as Tip and J.Lo would have liked. J.Lo is dubbed Public Enemy Number One, and Captain Smek knows that capturing the alien is the only way he'll stand a chance in the Boovs' first-ever presidential election.
With the help of a friendly flying billboard named Bill, a journey through various garbage chutes, a bit of time travel, and a slew of hilarious Boovish accents, Tip and J.Lo must fight to set the record straight-and return home in once piece.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I want to listen to this one on audio book SO much. Gratuity and J-Lo go to NewBoovWorld in search of redemption and tourist attractions. They end up in a race for escape against the background of a Boov presidential race. Um, yeah. It's hilarious. Don't try to think about it, just enjoy the show.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This book wasn't as good as The True Meaning of Smekday, but, in all honesty, I'm not sure any sequel could be. That being said, the story of Tip and J.Lo's trip to NewBoovWorld set against the backdrop of Smek being forced to run for President instead of just continuing on as HighBoov was a lot of fun. This time it was Tip learning about a brand new culture and, no surprise, she did great rescuing J.Lo all on her own. The mystery of the mysterious assassin was solved in a, I thought, surprising way, and the comics relating to that were really cool. It's a great followup, enjoy it! (Provided by publisher)
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5It's been a couple of years since Gratuity "Tip" Tucci and her alien pal J.Lo saved the world, and adjusting to everyday life has not been easy for them. J.Lo would like to visit the other Boov, now happily settled on one of Saturn's moons, but he (yes, J.Lo is male) is still persona non grata with the Boov. Tip, meanwhile, is chafing under her mom's new and improved parenting style and wishing for a little of the freedom she enjoyed back in her world-saving days. Determined to go to New Boovworld and explain his role in saving the Earth to Captain Smek, J.Lo modifies Slushious, their flying car, for space travel. He and Tip head for New Boovworld . . . without Tip's mother's knowledge or permission. Of course, when they arrive, things don't go exactly as planned. Smek, struggling through a grueling presidential race, decides to imprison J.Lo as a political move to boost his popularity. Tip escapes, but now she is lost on a strange planet with no way home and no idea how to help her friend. Can Tip rescue J.Lo and get home? And what will her mother say about the whole situation?I really love The True Meaning of Smekday (which is, by the way, the basis for the animated movie Home which comes out this spring). This sequel has the same delightful humor and touches of deeper social commentary, though the plotting in this volume is perhaps not quite as tight. Still, I read the whole book in two big gulps, and I hope that someday we'll see more of Tip and J.Lo.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5The True Meaning of SmekDay knocked my socks off--I fell head over heels in love with Tip and her family, but most especially J. Lo, the alien that Tip befriended. (I see that SmekDay is "soon to be a motion picture"--Home!) I had high hopes for this sequel, but as with many sequels, Smek for President just didn't quite fulfill them. It's still cute, and it certainly had its moments, but is just not as fresh as the first. Is it me? The positives: Tip's voice! I just love her! From the first moment we learn that her name is Gratuity "Tip" Tucci, to the end of Appendix B: J.Lo in "Smektastic Voyage", Tip is a wonderful companion. Spunky, smart, and a true friend to J.Lo, her voice never falters. It doesn't hurt that she is a young girl of color! The text is interspersed with author Adam Rex's fun comic book style pages, so now we see what J.Lo looks like! Of course, J.Lo himself is pretty spectacular, too--it's just the plot that's a bit weak. Still, it would make a fine family or classroom read-aloud--I really can't wait to hear Bahni Turpin read it to me!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Gratuity Tucci, known to her friends as Tip and her newest friend J. Lo – the alien Boov, not to be confused with the singer—embark on a mission to reconcile J.Lo with his fellow Boovs where he is known by the uncomplimentary title of “the Squealer.”). So after a bit of modification to their car, Slushious, Tip and J.Lo take off to Titan, one of Saturn's moons, now known as New Boovworld to meet with the High Boov, Captain Smek. But things don’t go as they had planned, and the results are a grand comic science fiction adventure.Rex has again concocted a wonderful stew of silliness and adventurous fun. Turpin has not lost her Boov voice that must have been a major factor in winning this recording’s predecessor, The True Meaning of Smekday, the 2011 Odyssey Award for the best audiobook produced for children and/or young adults, available in English in the United States.
