About this audiobook

First in the new Silver Valley series from the New York Times bestselling author of the Reapers Motorcycle Club Novels

Fourteen months. For fourteen months, Puck Redhouse sat in a cell and kept his mouth shut, protecting the Silver Bastards MC from their enemies. Then he was free and it was time for his reward-full membership in the club, along with a party to celebrate. That's when he saw Becca Jones for the first time and set everything in motion. Before the night ended he'd violated his parole and stolen her away from everything she knew.

Five years. It was five years ago that Puck destroyed Becca and saved her all in one night. She's been terrified of him ever since, but she's even more terrified of the monsters he still protects her from... But Becca refuses to let fear control her. She's living her life and moving forward, until she gets a phone call from the past she can't ignore. She has to go back, and there's only one man she can trust to go with her-the ex-con biker who rescued her once before.

Puck will help her again, but this time it'll be on his terms. No more lies, no more tears, and no more holding back what he really wants...

This was another good book by Joanna Wylde. She seems to have a knack for making books set in an MC as authentic as possible, but still emotional and romantic. This book introduces the new Silver Valley series. I'm looking forward to the next book in this series.

I feel for the hero! He put forth so much effort only to be constantly rejected by the heroine. I don't see where they fit together with each other beyond the bedroom. The heroine was illogical, wish-washy, itrational and blamed others (or circumstances) to justify her behavior. The hero could have done alot better for himself and he's killer!

Listened for Review (Penguin Audio)Overall Rating: DNFAudio Rating: 2.5 (not part of my overall rating)Why did I give it 2 even though it was a DNF: Silver Bastard by Joanna Wylde was very much written true to the world that she set the story in. I actually appreciated that she didn't pull any punches!Status Updates1% "#Listening I am going to admit before starting this that I may not like it. The only MCs I have read up to this point are Military hiding as bike clubs. I am not sure how I will do with MCs that are MCs. Example: I have watched 3 seasons of Sons of Anarchy while I love the writing and storytelling--the only character I have rooted for is Hale (the cop). So there is that!"7% "#Listening that opening was uncomfortable. I have been told this is where the story starts so I will give it another 10% before I call this a not for me book"46% #Listening Well I made it this long but the angst and unlikability of Puck is making me want to see how much further this train wreck goes. This is very much gritty, raw, and for a specific fan base."46% "PS By specific fan base, I don't mean that negatively. I mean there are people that love the dark nonreformed but loves his lady hero and clearly I am not one"54% #Listening Yes he just got less sexy. Just because you say it doesn't make it so (though B will totally accept it *sigh*)"Stopped at 62%: Why did I make it that far and just not finish? Honestly I kept waiting to like Puck. I stopped because there was just no way it was going to happen. Plus at this point, I was really beginning to dislike Becca too (seriously TSTLive or TSTDate --I'm not sure which bugged me more). She had a hard life and I was really rooting for her. The angst was a little bit much for me (though she was only 21 so that was part of it) and this really was just not my cup of tea. I knew it might not be. I do think those with the love of the outlaw biker though will love it. The writing was solid. The world was gritty, real, and brutal. The smexy was constant, raw, and intense.Audio Thoughts: Narrated By Allyson Ryan, Johnathan McClain / Length: 12 hrs and 43 mins The narration of this story did not work for me at all. Johnathan was good for Puck but his Becca voice made her sound a bit like a man with a smoking problem. Allyson was good for Becca but her male voices were off. I think having two narrators really kept me from accepting either the off male or female voices because just about the time I got used to one it would switch to the other. I am not sure what impact this had on the story or if the story had an impact on my view of the narration. It just didn't work for me.Final Thoughts: I seriously think this will work for most people, it just wasn't my thing. I now know that MC's that are true outlaw bikers are just not my thing

    Becca and Puck

Sometimes I'm sure a heroine is "too stupid to live." All though this book, I worried about Becca making stupid decisions and pushing Puck away. Her goal in life is not to be like her Mother, well she swings to the opposite extreme which at times is just as bad for her health.

Puck sticks with her, protects and loves her. Love an Alpha-hero that's like that.

I was a little bored with the mine background and goings on but it looks like it will lead to another interesting story line.

Summary Puck Redhouse has just been released from prison, protecting his club and all of his brothers from their enemies that would destroy them. Its been a long fourteen months and now he is free and just earned his patch that he worked long and hard for. Now its time to celebrate, and he finds Becca Jones, a woman who is shy but classically beautiful, and he wants her. He has her in a passionate night, but then he realizes that not everything is as it seems. He learns something shocking about her, and frees her from a prison of abuse and takes her with him back to Silver Valley. But he has to wait for her to grow up, a girl who needs to grow into a woman..his woman. Puck has watched over her for five years, and now he can’t resist her any longer, he must have her finally…if she wasn’t so willful and stubborn …now he must convince her that he is sincere no matter what it takes. The Hero Puck Redhouse, grew up in the club, his father a member, and its the only life he has ever known. Loyalty is everything to him and he will die for it. Puck knows exactly what type of person he is, and even though he aches for Becca, he knows he could never be worthy of someone so good and pure. He is tough, a pure alpha male, domineering and commanding in every way, and at times he seems to be your typical bad ass biker type. But as you see him underneath the surface, you see the honor he has, and his dedication to his brothers. He is true to himself, doesn’t hide anything, isn’t ashamed of what he has had to do to protect. The Heroine Becca has become a self sufficient strong-willed woman. But it wasn’t an easy road for her. She grew up with a mom that was a bikers whore and did anything for drugs. And her step father pimped her out at twelve, and all she has ever known is abuse and being treated less than who she really is. A strong and passionate woman. She meets Puck when she is only sixteen, but he treats her with such gentleness and care that she has never known before, he protects her and saves her from a life in hell. Now its been five years, she is almost done with school, has her own place, and loves her independence and paving her own life. She wants Puck, but also knows that being with him could be very dangerous. I loved Becca…she is feisty and strong and I love seeing how hard she works to be herself and not let her past bring her down. I loved her passion in everything she did, and her will to fight for a good life.Plot and Story Line Silver Bastard is the first book in a new series by Wylde, however despite that its a new series, not really, it does relate with the Reapers and we do some characters from that series which was quite fun to see. And now I want to re read that series again. Well with Silver Bastard Wylde has captured me once again. This is no light and carefree love story…its tough and gritty and really put you through some tension as you read…but what marvelous tension it is. From the beginning you know its going to be a tough romance to read…but by the end you are fully satisfied with the biggest meal you have ever eaten. From the beginning we see that things are not as they seem. At first we see some strong sparks between Puck and Becca, but you also sense something more to Becca, that her life is not what it seems. After we have quite a steamy night of hot sex and sheets, the next morning you are in for a shocker, because you learn certain things about what Becca’s life really is like, and the possessive and protective male instincts that ride Puck hard…where he takes her from her horrible life and to a life of freedom and independence. Then we jump to five years later, where Puck is a valid member of his club, trying to work out some problems they are dealing with one of their enemies, and all while trying to decide what he should do with Becca…when all he truly wants is to claim her as his old lady. Becca however wants more than just sex from Puck, she wants a normal life, she doesn’t want to turn into her mother, a whore and nothing else. She wants more from her life, to be strong and have a husband and children. But we start to see how a jealous Puck reacts to that, and not well. We aspects of a biker clubs life, and the day-to-day problems, we see two people who are in love and just don’t realize it, and see them struggle and muddle through it and try to figure out a relationship. The CoverWhew….this might be my favorite cover from this author. They are all so great, but I love his pose…hunched over the chair, with those sculpted shoulders and arms….delicious enough to lick…don’t y’all think?Overall View Silver Bastard is a truly tough and gritty romance…plenty of hot chemistry, packed with plenty of action, mystery and passionate characters that wins you over. STUNNING!!
