About this audiobook
The simple aim of this little book is to give so succinct and yet comprehensive a digest of Buddhistic history, ethics and philosophy as to enable beginners to understand and appreciate the noble ideal taught by the Buddha, and thus make it easier for them to follow out the Dharma in its details. In this book, information is presented in a catechism format: question and answer. The matter has been grouped within five categories, viz.: (1) The Life of the Buddha; (2) the Doctrine; (3) the Sangha, or monastic order; (4) a brief history of Buddhism, its Councils and propaganda; (5) some reconciliation of Buddhism with science. and there is a most enlightening appendix which give 14 fundamental Buddhist beliefs that were universally accepted at the time. - Summary by Phil Chenevert

Effective Catholic-style learning resource from famous British Theosophist (intellectual occultist) who was very instrumental in the revival of Theravada Buddhism, especially in Sri Lanka. It was him, along with a co-Theosophist, who in the the late 19th century created what is today known as the Buddhist flag. Both of them were Indian nationalists despite being foreigners.
Content: 4/5 I do not know how accurate a representation this 2-hour Q & A is of Buddhism in general, historically or religiously as I am not Buddhist. But it is digestible due to simple format.
Narration: 3/5 Two different voices - an American woman and a British male. Vox Libris is copyright-free and them being volunteers, don't expect professional narration. Neither can pronounce well Pali, Sanskrit and other South Asian words and the American has a mediocre mic. Anyway, ideally this is just a supplements to a text version.
Note: Look elsewhere if you are interested in Animist, Tibetan, Chinese or Japanese culture influenced Buddhism. This catechism is about philosophical ethical Buddhism and is based on the Pali canon (early Buddhist scriptures).
