About this audiobook
Olive thought she'd uncovered all the house's secrets. She was wrong.
It's Halloween night when strangers come to Linden Street...and something dear to Olive goes missing. To what lengths will she go to get it back? Can she trust the strangers? Will she turn to a new and dangerous magic within the paintings of Elsewhere? Or will she put her faith in her own worst enemies to save the people and home she loves?
The stakes grow higher, the secrets more dangerous, and mystery and magic abound as Olive, the boys, and the cats uncover the true nature of the house on Linden Street. A must-read fantasy series for fans of Pseudonymous Bosch, Coraline, and Septimus Heap.

- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5suspenseful beginning, boring middle, predictable end. The worst Dean Koontz book I've read to date.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5So, this was my first Koontz novel. I was actually impressed. He has parts sprinkled here and there where the writing is just beautiful. Style aside, the plot was very interesting. At first I was worried it was going to be a paranormal book (those scare me, so I hate them), but it turned out not to be and was well worth my time. I won't say how it ends though because I don't want to ruin the ending....

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This book felt like it was about 300 pages too long, not a huge plus in its favor, but if read quickly, skimming the slow bits, the plot is great, lots of subtle but odd events that add up to a major conspiracy. The subtle events are a bit too subtle, and whatever momentum they might have had died with the dead weight of filler scene description and atmospheric filler, but after the first couple hundred pages the pace picks up a bit and there is more to connect the many different characters the novel follows. Because there are so many main characters (about a dozen, all of whom do not know each other at all and are in different places when the novel starts) and the book bounces from one main character to the next every few pages, there is not much continuity to the story for a long time, and the characters all seem a bit underdeveloped, especially considering that there is very little action in this story, mostly just psychological thriller stuff (the characters experience something 'strange' that no one around them notices, etc.).
So, while the underlying story was good, and I did pass on my copy of this book for my sister to read it, I was annoyed at how much dead weight seemed to be keeping this story from being really exciting and gripping. Of course, if you like your thrillers to meander gradually towards a brief but interesting climax, building slowly over a few hundred pages, you may really enjoy this book. It is technically sci-fi, too, considering the nature of the climax, but where many authors would have spent a few hundred pages on the sci-fi element of this story, Koontz seems only interested in the psychological thriller aspects, and almost glosses over the bits I would have enjoyed reading about in more detail. I gave this book 4 stars on Goodreads, since there is not much wiggle room in a 5 star rating system (especially when culturally anything over a 3 is often interpreted as 'I hated it'), but I'd put it as a high 3, maybe 3.8, if we had decimal ratings on this site, and on my personal 10 point decimal rating system I gave this book a 6.7 out of 10. - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Whew! This was a good, long listen. I enjoy long books with lots of characters with a story line that keeps evolving. People living in various areas of the country begin having similar strange experiences…super power level weirdness. They eventually meet up in California and things become even stranger. I’m a fan of Koontz and enjoyed this one.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5A really fun read, even if it mirrors closely some of the same events as False Memory.
Plus it takes place in Nevada. Anything better? - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I am already a fan of Dean Koontz and this is definitely one of his better novels. Completely thrilling from beginning to end, this is one book that I was unable to put down. I recommend it to any fan of the genre.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I enjoyed this horror/thriller.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5A good read, but I feel, as with many of the writer's characters, thegood guys are too good, they appear to have no faults at all.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I enjoy Dean Koontz's writing more and more with each book of his I read. Even if there is one or two that I might not appreciate very much, there is always that extra special quality to his writing that makes me come back for more. And so it was with Strangers. Before I even got anywhere near the ending, it got me wondering why I read Mr. Koontz so rarely. What is it precisely that I like so much? It's the emotional value, there's just something intangible in Strangers (as in almost every other book of his) that puts me in a very thoughtful mood. There's a lot of philosophical and existential issues in there which you'd normally not expect from a writer of horror novels. But that's what's so great about Koontz. No matter how scary and how full of thrilling action his books get, you'll probably be brought to tears and definitely be asking yourself some important questions. While reading Strangers, I did cry and a few things did make me wonder. As far as the subject matter goes, did he make me a believer? Not quite yet but he came closest to convincing me among all the theories I've heard.Strangers is certainly a big in scope novel that actually isn't really a horror book, so if you are not a fan of horrors but would like to read a Koontz book, Strangers may very well be the one to try. All you need is an open mind and some taste for suspense, thrill and a little bit of paranormal (that's not scary). The only scary part is the evil that some people (not out of this world beings) are capable of. But even that Koontz beats with his strong faith in the goodness of mankind and our capacity to ultimately know good from evil. Even for a cynic like myself, it's refreshing to experience this.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5A group of strangers all start having flashbacks at the same time and follow the clues in these bursts of memory to a motel in the middle of nowhere. Were they abducted? Are they all insane? And what are these crazy new skills they have? Luckily one of them is a highly skilled thief/action man and they are able to go up against the horror.A thoroughly enjoyable mystery horror thriller sci fi adventure. Good characters (as always), good pace, and excellent action.
- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5Too long! 689 pages. Could have been half. Different people in different parts of the U.S. begin having nightmares about the moon. End up at desert motel where they had seen UFO landing, but military had made their memories blank.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This is the best book I've read of his yet, but that probably will change. The man keeps getting better and better.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5One of my favorite books. Would take this one on a desert island. A great story, better on the second read since there are a lot of characters.
