Library director Lindsey Norris has really started to settle in to her community of Briar Creek, Connecticut and while she has to deal with the small dramas of library life like the contentious Friends of the Library Presidential election. But when another murder is committed in their small town, followed shortly by a massive storm that keeps the police busy, Lindsey finds herself drawn into the investigation. This cozy mystery series is a new favourite of mine and this second entry is thoroughly delightful. I'm predisposed to love a series where the details of public library life is done so right. I also really adore the cast of characters so even when the mystery is a bit predictable, I still enjoy every second. It doesn't hurt that McKinlay adds a healthy dose of humour throughout.

A puppy is in the returned book bin. The husband of the new President of the Friends of the Library is murdered. A nasty nor'easter hits. It is up to Lindsay and her friends to find the killer before he/she strikes again.I like these characters. I like their interactions and the teasing Lindsay gets about Sully. The story was good. I did figure out the who and part of the why. I needed the ending to fill out the rest of the why. I'll be reading more of this series.

Lindsey Norris is the director of a small-town library and has started enjoying her job. That is until Carrie Rushton, the newly elected president of the Friends of the Library's, husband is killed and Carrie is the main suspect. Lindsey knows that Carrie couldn't have killed her husband, she's just too nice so Lindsey sets out to find out who did it - until a winter nor'easter pops up keeping everyone inside. There are suspects aplenty in this 2nd book in the Library Lover's Mystery series.

I enjoyed this book, lots of drama to move the story along, even when everyone is snowed in there is something happening - that's good writing. Looking forward to the next book.

When Carrie Rushton's obnoxious husband is found shot to death, suspicion naturally falls on the newly elected president of the Friends of the Library. Briar Creek librarian, Lindsay Norris, is convinced of Carrie's innocence and sets out to learn who wanted the nasty man dead.

The mystery itself is on the predictable side, and it is relatively easy to predict the culprit and the motive. Nevertheless, the appealing heroine, quirky town residents, and delightful pup more than make up for the lack of suspense in the story.

Lindsay is a very down-to-earth and appealing heroine. What she lacks in investigative skills, she more than makes up for in her directness and loyalty. The developments in her slow burn romance with Sully add another level of enjoyment to the story.

Overall, an entertaining read with engaging characters. I look forward to continuing with the series.

Lindsey is stunned when Carrie, the newly elected president of the Friends of the Library, is accused of murdering her husband. Convinced of her friend’s innocence, Lindsey is working to find the evidence to clear her. But much works against her, mostly circumstantial evidence. A huge snow storm complicates matters, but an abandoned puppy, who desperately wants Lindsey to be his person, is instrumental in saving the day. It’s a well written mystery with interesting characters and is quite entertaining.

Boy, I hope this book is an indication of just how great this series is going to be. I thoroughly enjoyed this book - the characters are really likeable and the writing put me in the scene almost immediately. In a lot of books I read I find myself skimming over an over-abundance of internal dialogue but Due or Die had none of that. I will admit to guessing the murderer very quickly, but not the why or the how and I liked how the whole story tied together when I got there.

While I'm a fan of both of Jenn McKinlay's series (the cupcake series) I like this one best and I hope it's a series that will be around for some time to come.

Do Or Die is the second book in The Library Lover's Mystery series and a great addition it is.

Lindsey Norris, the library director, is asked by Carrie Rushton if she would attend the Friends of the Library meeting at which the election of president of the group will be held. The current president Bill Sint has been making uncalled for comments about her opposing him for president. Sint is even more upset when he find out that Carrie has won the election. When Carrie gets home from the library she finds that her husband has been shot through the window while he was sitting in his chair. Of course Carrie is the prime suspect, even though she has a pretty good alibi. Lindsey invites her to spend to come and stay at the house where she lives until Carrie's family arrives.

Before the police can really get a good investigation started a nor'easter hits, paralyzing the little town. So, with the help of her friends, Nancy, her hunky Sully, Beth and Carrie put their heads together to make up there own list of suspects. Throw in Lindsey almost be run down and being locked in a storage room things need to be solved before another body is discovered.

Another delightful character is introduced in this book, Heathcliff. Heathcliff is a young puppy that was found just after the nor'easter in the book drop-chute at the library. He is a mixed breed and does all the things that puppies do, be adorable. But he almost helps find Lindsey when she goes missing. I think he has found a furever home with Lindsey.

Will be looking forward to the next book in this interesting series.

Head Librarian, Lindsay Norris, loves her job at the small public library. Even conflicts within the Friends of the Library don't take the shine off. However, when the husband of the new president of the Friends is murdered and suspicion turns on his wife, Lindsay is determined to clear her friend's name. Even a huge snow storm on slows her down slightly. This is a fun series. I like Lindsay and the rest of the characters. I am not sure what is up with her sort of boyfriend, Sully. They need to get on with the romance already. Anyway, the story is fun and the mystery is pretty good. McKinlay has a wry sense of humor that sneeks up on me sometimes and has me laughing out loud.

In this second installment in the Library Lover's mystery series, Carrie Rushton is elected as the new leader for the library friends group, upsetting long-time incumbent Bill Sint in a landslide election. Carrie's husband, a lazy man who barely interacted with the community but got along with no one when he did, is murdered while she's at a friends meeting. In the meantime, a puppy turns up in the book drop. Lindsay takes the puppy that the staff has decided to call Heathcliff home with her until its owners or a new home can be found. Sully, the sailor, continues to show interest in Lindsay. A nor'easter blows in paralyzing the town. The friends' book storage unit is damaged but was the cause the snow or deliberate? Sully believes the latter. I won't give away too much of the plot. Although I suspected the perpetrator from early on, there were enough red herrings to keep it interesting. This is a fun cozy mystery series with entertaining characters. I look forward to reading the next installment.

The next installment of McKinlay's Library Lover's Mystery series has Lindsey, our intrepid librarian director protagonist from the first novel, attempting to solve the mystery of the murder of Markus Rushton, the husband of the new head of Friends of the Library. While the police are distracted by a nor'easter that has buried the town in white, Lindsey puts her skills to use investigating the crime.

The first in this series did not impress me - the writing was stilted, especially the dialogue, and the murder was only so-so. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that the writing must not be a chronic condition, as this one was miles better in terms of style. The "quirky" people are dialed back a bit and the dialogue no longer sounds like a commercial. The descriptions have improved as well, and I found myself bundling up under the covers while the book described the snow, even though I'm in Houston and it hit 94 degrees today.

There are still some rough spots that an editor should have caught. They were nothing major, but irksome to see in a professionally published book:

"Nancy was renown in town for her cookie-baking skills." (page 38)*

" 'Aw, he's sweetie,' she said." (page 89)

The plot seemed a little familiar at first and I had to raise an eyebrow - the first book found Sully and Lindsey waiting as Beth stumbled upon a dead body ahead of them. This one had Sully and Lindsey waiting as Carrie stumbled upon a dead body. Both Beth and Carrie are suspected of the respective crimes.

Thankfully, the plot began to diverge, and though the ending was apparent fairly soon into it, at least it was an enjoyable ride on the way there.

Once again, the crafternoon group stole the show, but Lindsey wasn't quite as boring as in the first, and it seems her character is starting to develop a little. There were also some genuinely funny lines hidden in there.

All in all, Due or Die is a vast improvement over the first, and I have high hopes that the third one will be even better.

    * In case you were wondering, "renown" is a noun while "renowned" is an adjective. If you replaced "renown" and "renowned" with "fame" and "famous" respectively, you'll see why the sentence "Nancy was renown" is incorrect.

When the husband of newly elected Friends of the Library president Carrie Rushton is murdered, library director Lindsay Norris has a few ideas who might have done the deed. And it’s not Carrie. But that’s whom police glom onto as a suspect. The embittered former Friends’ president is at the top of the list, as is a strange woman who seems obsessed with him. Before long, however, a blizzard hits and pretty soon everybody in town is pretty much confined to their homes with the electricity out. When the clouds lift, the Friends’ storage shed, where its donated books are kept, is destroyed. A subsequent inventory reveals that some of the most valuable books are missing. Could the murder and the missing books be linked?Due or Die is the second in the “library lover’s” mysteries. I love libraries and I love this series, too. Jenn McKinley, known for her cupcake shop and hat shop mysteries, has another winner on her hands. The characters are terrific and her writing makes for a smooth read. I most appreciate keeping the romance to a minimum. There’s no mistaking her books for romances.

The crafternooners have gathered at the library and are startled when a small puppy is brought to them having been found in the book drop. They oo and ah because he really is adorable and persuade Lindsey to look after him until a new owner can be found and she reluctantly agrees. That same evening, the Friends of the Library hold a meeting and elect Carrie as their President. The old President, Bill Sent, is angry but turns over all the keys and such to Carrie and drives off. Lindsey goes home with Carrie along with Sully and they discover that Carrie's husband has been murdered. The next day Lindsey is nearly run over by Marjorie Bilson (Batty Bilson) who is sweet on Bill Sent, and urges Lindsey to get Bill back to the top of the Friends.Events keep swirling around, along with the snow that keeps falling and falling in blizzard proportions as Lindsey with Heathcliff (the dog) make every effort to solve the murder and keep themselves alive at the same time. This book was so much fun! Between the matchmaking ladies and the zany dog and people traipsing through blizzard conditions, you have to laugh. When did the puppy get housebroken? Nobody seemed to go out in the snow unless it was to get into trouble. The clues to the mystery were well woven throughout and, again, the characters were great. The next one comes out in December, I'll be watching for it!

First Line: "I could not believe that Lucy agreed to marry Cecil when she was so obviously in love with George," Violet La Rue declared. The same evening that Carrie Rushton is voted in as the new president of the Friends of the Library, her husband is murdered. The evidence is stacking up against the well-liked woman, but head librarian Lindsey Norris and the Briar Creek crafternoon club doesn't believe a bit of it. When a nor'easter buries the small coastal town in snow, wind and frigid temperatures, the police are too busy digging out the residents to focus on the murder. Lindsey and her friends take this as their cue to conduct their own investigation. This is the perfect book to read during a typical summer in Phoenix. I sat in the pool and smiled as I read about frostbite, howling winds, and towering snowdrifts. Hey... some people are made for cold; I'm made for heat.I enjoyed the first book in this series, Books Can Be Deceiving, because McKinlay created the perfect small town setting complete with the perfect library. She continues this in Due or Die. Lindsey is loving her new home, her new library, and her new friends more and more as time passes. Tall, dark and handsome Mike Sullivan makes her pulse race even more than Ms. Cole, the obstreperous librarian nicknamed "the lemon," does. From abandoned puppies to widows, Lindsey is always there to lend a hand, and when someone mentions that to her, she wonders Was it true? Was she incapable of not helping a person in distress? Or was she just a big buttinsky? The camaraderie between Lindsey, her coworkers and her friends is a delight to read, and her decision to "foster" an abandoned puppy until a good home can be found for it will make any pet lover smile knowingly and sigh with pleasure. And while I'm speaking about emotional reactions... let me tell you-- when Lindsey tells Sully off at the end of the book, my fist pump went a little wild, I almost knocked over my umbrella, and my "YOU GO GIRL!" scared off a few of my feathered friends at the birdbath nearby. For those of you who like the goodies at the backs of books, the author has included tips to set up your own crafternoons, a reading guide, a crochet pattern, and recipes. There is so much fun in this fast-paced book; McKinlay had to be smiling as she wrote it. Due or Die has much more to do with the feeling of closeness and friendship between all the characters than it has to do with whodunit, and sometimes that's exactly what the doctor ordered. I can't wait for the next book in the series!

I may be biased because I am a librarian named Lindsey but I really love this series. I love the literary references, the ins and outs of public library work, and the small town charm. The little bit of romance in this one made it very enjoyable. I am looking forward to the next book in the series.

I enjoyed this return to Briar Creek and Lindsey Norris' stint as the new librarian in town. The secondary characters have settled in better (there are quite a lot of people for a small town) and the slight romance mixed with mystery suited me just fine! I recommend any and all of Jenn McKinlay's cozies, under any of her pseudonyms!

It's election time for the Friends of the Library. The current president, Bill Sint is angry with Carrie Rushton for running against him. When Carrie wins the election, not all members are thrilled. Now that she's President-Elect, Carrie is busier than ever. Unfortunately her husband Markus is of no help. When Markus is found murdered inside their home, Carrie becomes the police's number one suspect.Due or Die is the second installment in the new Library Lover's Mystery series. Although I am one to read a series in order, I did not find it necessary to read the first book, Books Can Be Deceiving. The author briefly wrote about events from that book, however she did not reveal spoilers and the reader is able to follow the current storyline.Lindsey Norris once again takes center stage in the murder investigation. She knows Carrie would not murder her husband and is persistent to solve the crime. She enlists the help of Sully, Nancy, Beth and the other Crafternoon Club members. The clock is ticking as Carrie's arrest is inevitable. The romance between Lindsey and Sully has blossomed. There's no denying these two have feelings for each other and both are finally ready to take the next step. Like the previous book, the romance did not overshadow the mystery. I like both Sully and Lindsey and feel the pace of their relationship is real.I've come to enjoy the Library Lover's Mystery series and look forward to the third book, Book, Line, and Sinker (there is a preview provided in Due or Die). Cozy fans will not want to miss this series.

Lindsey Norris is settling in to her job as director of the Briar Creek Public Library on the coast of Connecticut. She's made a lot of changes, which almost everyone is pleased about, though there are a few hold-outs including the circulation supervisor, Ms. Cole.Another big change, though Lindsey is not directly responsible, is the election of new Friends of the Library president, Carrie Rushton. Although Carrie is a very pleasant person with many friends, she is burdened with an extremely disagreeable husband. After Carrie's first meeting as president of the Friends, Lindsey and her friend Sully give her a ride home from the library. Thus, they are there when she discovers Markus' body, dead from a gunshot wound. It's apparent that the bullet came through the living room window, which has been shattered. As the spouse, Carrie is the main suspect, but her friends are certain that she's innocent and set out to help her prove it. Briar Creek is an almost prototypical New England coastal town, with a restaurant called the Blue Anchor that serves wonderful clam chowder, and companies that provide boat excursions for tourists. As a librarian, I enjoy reading well-written books with librarians as protagonists. I'm particulary impressed by McKinlay's depiction of the library and its staff, although the idea of a children's librarian who has the time and funds to dress up in costume for her storytimes is a little improbable in this time of staff- and budget-cutting. At the end of the volume are recipes, a crochet pattern, a book club guide for Wuthering Heights, and a preview of the third book in the series, Book, Line and Sinker. *FTC Full Disclosure: Many thanks to the publisher, who sent me a copy of the book for review purposes.
