About this audiobook

Love is in the air—but what does that mean for Greg Heffley?

A Valentine’s Day dance at Greg’s middle school has turned his world upside down. As Greg scrambles to find a date, he’s worried he’ll be left out in the cold on the big night. His best friend, Rowley, doesn’t have any prospects either, but that’s a small consolation.

An unexpected twist gives Greg a partner for the dance and leaves Rowley the odd man out. But a lot can happen in one night, and in the end, you never know who’s going to be lucky in love.

It's time for a boy/girl dance and Greg has his sight set on...any girl that'll have him. Except for one that'll have him. Ah, middle school. How familiar.

The more things change, the more they stay the same....

The above cliche is a perfect description of the "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" series.  The latest, "The Third Wheel", follows the same script. The usual Greg Hefley family weirdness (this time with the addition of a deadbeat uncle); Greg figuring out creative ways to get out of things leading to some mishap or another; hijinks at school (including the mysterious "pantser").  Same, same.

There is one difference though.  Greg actually seems to be growing up.  Girls weren't a focal point for him in the past, but with the big Valentine's Day dance coming up, finding someone to take becomes the central focus of "The Third Wheel".  There are some funny parts about the search for a date, including some sound advice from the deadbeat uncle.  And the book leads to an entertaining end, with good friend Rowley turning the tables on Greg.

Yeah, "The Third Wheel" is pretty much just like the other "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" books.  But that isn't such a bad thing.  Sometimes, funny is still funny, no matter how many times you read it.

This book is funny in that it brings back the memories of when you are at school and trying to impress a girl. The school dance is coming up and Greg does not want to be the odd one out with out a date. This is typical of how a school kid would feel.Greg is desperate to find someone and ends up inviting a girl called Abigail. Aiming to impress her he organizes Rowley’s dad to drive them (on the pretence that he is a chauffeur) to the dance and in doing so has to have Rowley along as well. By the end of the night Abigail is more impressed with Rowley than Greg and a budding romance begins, much to the annoyance of Greg who feels like a third wheel. This is an enjoyable book as I could relate to how Greg felt attending his first school dance.

The Third Wheel (Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Book 7)By Jeff KinneyThis book is about a teen named Gregory Heffley aka Greg. In this book Greg's high school holds a Valentines Day dance, everyone was talking about it and the students had to find a date to go with. The school organized candy grams, the candy grams were invitations to the Valentines Day dance. The students had to send candy grams to the person that they wanted to go to the dance with. There were more boys than girls in Greg's grade so a lot of the guys (including Greg) we're worried that they won't get a date to go to the dance with. Greg tried sending a candy gram to a girl named Adrianne but she said no. He tried and tried but he was never successful in getting a date for the dance, until he came up with an idea of going to the dance as a group of friends with his best friend Rowley and a girl named Abigail who got dumped one day before the dance. This is a child/young adult book. If you enjoyed the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series then this is definitely the book for you.

Anyone who is, or was, an American teen in an American middle school can relate to the headaches of Greg Heffley. Filled with comics and a sizable font, this book is a quick read, as are all of the Wimpy Kid books. But even though they can be consumed as quickly as popcorn, they stay with you longer as the misadventures of Greg and his friends, and family, are memorable without being unbelievable.
