This was a really good book! I was really excited to dive back into this series after reading and enjoying the first two installments. This was a solid addition to the series. I feel that this is a series that really does need to be read in order since the events in each book builds on the earlier events. I found myself really getting hooked by the story and I ended up most of it in a single day.Claire and the rest of the crew are laying low in New Orleans. Liam left without a word to anyone now that he has magic like Claire. When Liam is accused of murder, Claire insists on going to find him along with a couple of other members of the group. They do find him but also find another problem that seems to be putting paranormals at risk.I really have been enjoying the wonderful cast of characters in this series. Each of the recurring characters are well developed and I think that I like them just a little bit more with each installment. They have all grown over the course of the series and have learned to rely on each other. The world that this story takes place in is equally well done. I really liked the contrast of the world outside of New Orleans that we saw a bit of in this installment.I thought that the mystery at the core of this book was entertaining and quite complex. I found myself really working to figure out who was really responsible for the murder and how it connected to everything else going on. Claire must also deal with a few discoveries that are quite personal. The book does end in a very exciting manner that makes me want to get my hands on the next book as soon as I possibly can.I would recommend this book to others. This is a really exciting series that takes place in a well crafted world that I think a lot of readers will enjoy. I can't wait to find out what happens next to Claire and the rest of the group!I received an advance reader edition of this book from Berkley Publishing Group via NetGalley.

Liam hasn’t been back to New Orleans since the battle but that hasn’t stopped someone from framing him for murder. Claire and Gavin go out into the bayou to find him and warn him of the crime and bounty on his head. Liam and Claire solve the mystery by the end of the book and solve the mystery of some of Claire background as well. The book ends on a bit of a cliffhanger so I’m sure there will be more to read in this magic charged version of a war torn New Orleans.

    Love this series

I liked this but not as much as the previous two books. I hope the next one is as great as I want it to be. I love her writing.

THE SIGHT left me pretty heartbroken for Claire and I was looking forward to seeing what would happen next for her. THE HUNT started off a bit slow and 5 weeks after the end of book two. There was a great mystery to THE HUNT that kept me reading, but it didn't live up to the last two books in the series for me. After all the action of THE SIGHT, THE HUNT was a little disappointing in that category. It does feature some good action scenes, but not nearly as much as previous books and the story tended to drag a little without it. Thankfully the Devil's Isle series is urban fantasy because the relationship between Claire and Liam is frustrating. There is progress, but it always seems like two steps forward, one step back with them. Hopefully the progress made in THE HUNT sticks for a while. The characters are really what kept THE HUNT from being a total downer. They are all interesting, bring something unique to the group and they work really well together. Hopefully I can get back into the series with book four. * This book was provided free of charge from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

If you've read the first two you know Claire and Liam went separate ways. If you haven't read them, go read them or you'll be lost. This is a series that builds on each previous book. Claire and Liam, they will be reunited but not for the reason you might expect. Liam has been framed for a murder, in a very personal way. The legal forces are looking for him and anyone who knows him. This has Claire and her crew hustling to find him and associates to warn them. Unfortunately, he has gone off the radar, deep into the swamp. The hunt for the truth, him and his associates leads them into dangerous places. Oh the ending, get those cleats ready because it's a steep cliffhanger.I really enjoyed this 3rd book, even if it left me hanging off a cliff, again. The pacing was just right even during the semi laid back scenes. The side characters got some page time and almost stole the show, yeh you Moses. I admit to having doubts, it was a slow start the first 50 pages. I was looking at dropping it, but then it clicked on and never dimmed. Liam, who was a complete jerk up to this book,(in my humble opinion) might have upgraded to a bonehead. Claire deserves an award for her patience. Read the book you'll know what I'm talking about. There was magic, science, betrayal, mystery, danger, chasing, humor, and some lusting, a good mix.

Liam Quinn was hit with a magical weapon and infected with magic in the previous book in this series. This was life-shattering for a man who made a career of hunting down paras and Sensitives and bringing them to Devil's Isle prison. He has disappeared on his girlfriend Claire Connolly who is left to survive in New Orleans as a hunted Sensitive. When Claire learns that Liam is suspected in the death of a government agent named Broussard, she knows he was out of town and travels into the bayous with Liam's brother Gavin and a winged Para named Malachi to warn him - and to find out why he left her. Finding Liam only uncovers the tip of the iceberg for the large conspiracy that is threatening to bring war back to New Orleans.Claire has come to terms - sort of - with the knowledge that her father kept her ignorant of lots of things to protect her. But now she is faced with one more lie he told her: her mother is not dead but chose to abandon her husband and daughter. Worse yet, she is a scientist who is perfecting a virus to wipe out all of the paranormals who are on this side of the veil. Claire, Liam and their allies have to stop these plans and other even more sinister plans before the world they know, already battered, is destroyed. This was an excellent episode in an engaging urban fantasy series. I like the world building. I like the relationships especially Claire's with Moses and with Liam. Claire is a great character who is dealing with a magical ability she didn't ask for and that she is just learning to use.

Liam has run away to try to deal with his sudden sensitivity to magic and the source of it and what it will do to him. Claire Connolly goes to look for him and has to deal with the fact that she's a wanted woman. She also discovers that her mother is actually still alive and working on a sinister project.Well that was interesting a lot of things going on and setting up some interesting things for future. I get how Claire wanted Liam to apologise but she didn't seem to acknowledge that he needed time and space to deal with his own issues.

I have read all the books in this series and loved them. They are hard to put down. It helps to read them in order so you have a better idea of who each character is. They are all available on Smashwords.com for all eReaders, Barnes and noble for Nook, Amazon for Kindle.

I'm Thinking There's a Book 5 of the BBW Series*****SOFT SPOILER ALERT***** Heather Killough Walden writes another good paranormal romance with "The Hunt". This is Book 4 in her Big Bad Wolf series, and you definitely need to read the first 3 books in order to understand the world & characters the author has created. It's not a stand-alone book IMO. Most of the main characters from the previous books play a supporting role here and provide a protective family for our new couple, Byron and Kat. Byron is the brother of Book 3's Lucas Caige. He's been held in captivity for 50 years by Isobel, the Vampire Princess. He's had a rough time of it, even though he's a very high Alpha Were. Kat is a modern woman looking to avenge her father's death. She's a Hunter with a large number of kills under her belt, and she's a Dormant. I like that she's independent, but in some passages, I felt she might have struggled more with her acceptance of the Weres, given her previous Hunter indoctrination. However, I assumed her lustful attraction to Byron was beyond her control due to the Alpha/Dormant Bond. The storyline involves removing a 4000 year-old curse and saving the Weres from almost-certain extinction. This appealed to me and cleared up the Weres' gender roles as outlined in the previous BBW Books. In "The Hunt" and the first 3 Books of the series, the story of the Alphas and the discovery of and pursuit of their Mates is quite predictable and derivative. That's true for nearly all the longer series in this genre, (think BDB and Midnight Breed, to mention but two). It's one reason why I like to sample various PR authors so I don't become bored with any one series. And I'm always curious as to what type of "world" each author builds. I did find the ending of "The Hunt" just a bit confusing, and perhaps HKW wrote it purposefully so. I think there's another book or two in the BBW Series yet and will stay tuned for the next instalment.
