- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I previously read “Miss Julia Delivers the Goods” which was my introduction to the character of Miss Julia and author Ann B. Ross. Miss Julia is delightful. She’s the definition of optimism, “busy body”, and adventurous all blended into one creative, fun-filled, whimsical, well-meaning woman who will always move “heaven and earth” to satisfy her curiosity and to uphold promises to herself and to her friends. Who could ask for more? Open the covers, step inside, and have a great time!
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Miss Julia is up to her usual shenanigans - misinterpretations and jumping to conclusions, but always with decorum and grace.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This is part of a series. It assumes you have read the previous books and know how Miss Julia and Lloyd are related. I hadn't read the prior books, so I looked here at the information on the prior books to get it straight what the relationship was.
Late in the book Mr. Tuttle comments on how so many things went Miss Julia's way. She found the thieves, some of her friends jewelry when the odds were so great against it. It reminded me of an episode of Stargate: SG1 where they are doing a show within a show. They are reviewing a TV script and one of the characters comments on how the main people are saved: Isn't that awfully convenient? To which the writer explains: we will just have the lead say, 'boy that was convenient' and it will be fine.
The book is cute and funny. The very proper Miss Julia has to - gasp - shop at Target. - Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I previously read “Miss Julia Delivers the Goods” which was my introduction to the character of Miss Julia and author Ann B. - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Okay, this book I enjoyed. I've been swinging back and forth on Miss Julia. I like the characters but get a little tired of the TSTL things that Miss Julia sometimes does, for no known reason. I also don't know why she insists that everything she does doesn't need to be shared with anyone except Lilian.
In this book only Miss Julia and Lloyd are center stage, although they take along Etta Mae Wiggins. They are off to search for the crooks who broke into houses all over town stealing jewelry, including getting away with Miss Julia's wedding and engagement rings.
The chase takes them to Florida where they hire a friend of Mr. Pickens who doesn't seem to know what hit him and will probably never be the same as a result!
Fast paced and with interesting twists this one will get me into the next book in the series. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5While her new husband, Sam, is on a long-planned trip to Russia and her friend Hazel Marie is in Mexico, it would seem that Miss Julia would be at loose ends. However, when her engagement and wedding ring and Hazel Marie's jewelry are stolen by a gang of thieves, Miss Julia has plenty to do since her private investigator friend, Mr. Pickens, is out of town and is unavailable to take the case. Miss Julia and Hazel Marie's young son, Lloyd, take off for Florida after they learn that the gang's headquarters is probably located there. Miss Julia and Lloyd are soon hot on the theives' trail, with a little help from a drunken P.I. friend of Mr. Pickens and from the slightly trashy Etta Mae Wiggins. The Miss Julia books are among my favorites for escape reading, and this one is the best yet of the series. I'm glad I didn't read very much of it in public. I laughed so hard in places that I know I would have attracted attention to myself. It's not great literature, but it's well written for its genre and it's just plain fun. Here's a sample passage, with Miss Julia and Lloyd trying to cope with a drunken P.I. Tuttle:”If he's not closer to normal by morning, we might have to [call a doctor]. The problem is, though, we don't know what normal is like for him. We may be seeing it now.”“It's got to be better than this,” Lloyd said as he gazed soberly at Mr. Tuttle. “All he's done is sleep and throw up, and I don't think that's normal for anybody.”I nodded, marveling again at how incisive his mind was. He could cut through to the gist of a problem as quickly as Sam or Lillian could. This book might work OK as a stand-alone, but I don't think it would be as funny without a knowledge of the characters from the earlier books in the series. I recommend starting from the beginning and reading the books in order.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5A good one! I liked it a lot.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Eighth in the Miss Julia series and one of the best in the series. The madcap adventures of the first book (Miss Julia Speaks Her Mind) have returned. Miss Julia recruits Etta Mae and Little Lloyd to help her find her stolen engagement and wedding rings.
