      What I liked: The historical tidbits about what being a servant at the huge Biltmore House was like. The author certainly did a good job in portraying the daily challenges and sometimes humiliations of the servants. I still cringe remembering some of the things that Tillie, the main character who wants to become a ladies maid in the service of a selfish and rather spoiled visitor to the estate.What I didn't like: The constant references to the physical attraction between the two main characters, and the several scenes in which they were "set up" so that they would have physical encounters There was practically no sane reason for Tillie to choose Mack other than the intense physical attraction. The agonizing over her decision for most of the book and then having a sudden change of heart seemed kind of forced as well. The author is talented at creating vivid scenes and relating some historical detail, but this is not a romance that I would necessarily recommend to others.

      A well done story taking place at the Biltmore Estates; a place I have visited and been in awe of (and a place the author explains more about at the end of the book). The author did a great job of taking you inside this estate and showing a true picture of the life of the servants that keep the place running so smoothly. One of my favorite lines in this story, which was the thoughts of a man who felt he couldn't be free until he returned to his life in the mountains, instead of working where he didn't want to be: "Freedom didn't always equate with coming and going as he pleased. Or to living out in the open. Or to doing whatever he wanted. Sometimes, it was simply a matter of being free to laugh. Free to help others. Free to fulfill his calling." Good job Deeanne Gist.Tillie Reese has always been in awe of where she is employed and the riches of the Vanderbilts. Her life's goal is to some day be the "lady's maid". When that position looks like it could possibly be hers she works hard to do everything right. The problem is one rule that the house has is that there is to be no romance going on down stairs where the servants live. That wasn't a problem for Tillie until Mack Danvers, a mountain man turned footman, shows up to work at Biltmore. Mack isn't exactly thrilled to be there, but the money is good and he needs it to get his sister out of the orphanage. Mack finds himself being tutored by Tillie in proper servant etiquette, and they both find themselves drawn to each other; one fights the feelings and the other encourages them. Then there is also the town orphanage and the cruel cover-up going on that both Mack and Tillie get involved in. It is a story of realizing your dreams of what you thought you always wanted, might not be at all what will bring the most happiness and fulfillment in your life. I enjoyed getting to know both Tillie and Mack and enjoyed seeing what went on behind the scenes at Biltmore. Also great job on the cover of this book and on the title. An enjoyable read that left me well satisfied as I finished the final pages. It was full of historical facts, with enjoyable characters that took you from crisis to lighthearted moments and left you enjoying every minute of it.

      I plan on visiting the Biltmore with my family! After reading this book I fell in love with the house. I looked it up on the internet and was happy t see it was still owned by the Vanderbilt's and has tours and other activities.
      Tillie was a chamber maid and wanted to be the ladies maid. I loved learning about the home and the household staff hierchy. She had a mother who taught her from young childhood how to be a ladies maid. Will she give up her chance for love?

      I thought this book was historical fiction because it was set at the Biltmore and involved the Vanderbilts. However, it was nothing but a glorified Harlequin Romance set at the Biltmore. Oh well ...

      A sweet novel with a typical "must not fall in love with man but can't help it" theme.I picked up this book because of the location setting, Biltmore in North Carolina. In this day and age of Downton Abbey mania my interest was piqued to read about one of our own "royal families", the Vanderbilts.The author does state that the information she wrote regarding the life of servants at Biltmore was indeed correct. It was truly a whole other world between the upstairs and the downstairs.The story line itself was kind of predictable. Mack was the stronger character of the two protagonist as he was written as a very emotional and sensual character. Tillie's character is portrayed as living in a bubble. She was born and bred to be a servant and consequently was chosen to live her mother's dream of being a ladies maid. She is quite naive in her attitude towards her goals of reaching a higher rank. It's Mack who can see she has the wrong reasons for doing what she does. I didn't realize this novel was classified as a Christian-fiction read. This does become evident towards the end of the book. It's definitely not something you pick up in the beginning.A sweet read.

      If you are looking for a book with historical details, a little romance, and a tiny mystery, "Maid to Match" is definitely the one you want to read. The characters in this story are instantly loveable, and you want to keep reading so you can figure out what will happen next. The plot was a little typical for that of a romance novel, but the small mystery that occurs in this book more than makes up for that. This book was definitely a page turner. Between trying to figure out what the characters will do next, and the mystery that starts to occur during the middle of the book, I could not put it down. I also loved the fact that this fictional story had some real historical aspects. Knowing that this story took place at Biltmore Estate, the home of the Vanderbilt family, allows the reader to have some historical context in this book. I was afraid that this would be a typical cheesy romance novel, but it really surprised me. The nice balance of historical fiction, romance, and mystery truly makes this book great! I don't want to give any more details away, so you should really just read it for yourself!

      One of the best books I have read in a long time. Biltmore Estate holds a special place in my heart as my husband and I toured it during our honeymoon, and having it as the setting of this book was fantastic. The characters were wonderful, and the plot a breath of fresh air, even for what is typical of the fairly predictable historical romance genre. Also, while being clean, this book was not typical of Christian lit. I would never of known that it was anything other then historical fiction if not for recognizing the publisher. I am an definitely going to read more books by this author :-)

      This was our latest book club read and I have to say that we all had a lot of fun reading it. It was predictable, but it didn't matter. We wanted to keep reading to see how the characters arrive at the predictable ending. The characters were engaging and the story was entertaining.

      I have yet to read a historical romance by Deeanne Gist that I haven't totally adored. She has a way with words, setting, and edgy romantic elements that is just hard for other authors to beat. Maid to Match was a real page-turner, in my opinion, but it was more than that. It was truly insightful and inspiring. Plus, it sizzled.
