If ever a book was enthrallingly nightmarish then I would say this book fits that bill. A killer stalks the streets and the reason why is even more terrifying. I will not say but it is a complete shocker and I didn't see it coming. As Cassie is drawn into the killer's mind, while frail and ethereal, she's strong enough that she comes out herself and not some twisted creature bent on destruction. She has Ben, a strong, protective character, beside her. This is definitely something to read if you're into psychics who help solve crimes because there were so many things I didn't see coming that I just kept reading. I definitely recommend this book to read even if you aren't, because it is just that good.

This book was recommended to me by a friend, and I really enjoyed it. It is about a psychic who tries to help the police solve crimes by connecting to the minds of the killers. It was really well written and I enjoyed the quick pace and reading about the main character Cassie, the psychic.I'd certainly read another of her books, my only problem now is deciding whether to add her remaining books to my TBR (to be read) pile. I thoroughly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys tv shows such as 'Medium' or who enjoys reading crime with a psychic or paranormal twist.

WoW! I've always been a fan of Kay Hooper's writing but this book was amazing!! So many twists and turns and then more twists. This might be one of the shortest reviews I've ever written but there's only one thing to say - find a copy and start reading. Oh, and before you start reading, make sure that you tell whoever is at home not to interrupt you because you're not even going to pause for one moment to talk until you turn the final page. Enjoy!

I almost gave this one four stars cause I found it really interesting and fairly unusual. The psychic, alternate consciousness stuff was really well done and really creepy. But the love story was lame and formulaic and not up to the same level as the rest of the book.

    Synopsis:
Cassie Neil is a psychic who helps the police capture killers until the day she makes a mistake and feels compelled to live a quieter life. Unfortunately, Cassie's new home is being stalked by a murderer but no one believes her until the bodies start piling up.

    Review:
Well-written with several twists and turns to keep you guessing.
The plot appears to be your typical serial killer fare but the climax turns out to be quite a shocker. For once, I was unable to guess the killer even though there are definitely sufficient clues. This might be because I was distracted (in a good way) by the romantic and paranormal aspects of the story.

The psychic elements are believable perhaps due to the fact that a main character has his doubts concerning the heroine’s abilities. He is eventually convinced by the evidence and becomes a staunch believer, thereby mimicking the readers experience and allowing for suspension of disbelief.

The primary romance builds slowly but develops into an intense and captivating relationship. Cassie is extremely strong willed and keeps herself at a distance, which can be irritating at times but is clearly consistent with the nature of her psychic abilities. Ben is attractive and sensitive but not without his own flaws, which he must overcome to save Cassie’s life.

The development of the minor characters is one of the details that draw you into the story because the women, who are easy to identify with and care about, are potential victims while the men are possible suspects. One of the few flaws in the book is that the killer’s motivation is not sufficiently developed and it would have been better to have more information about what makes him tick.

Overall, this is an entertaining and suspenseful read and I look forward to reading the next book in the series.

Psychic Cassie Neill has made a career of helping the L.A. police department catch killers-a career that she puts aside after a terrible mistake leaves a child dead.
Cassie decides to start over by moving to the small town of Ryan's Bluff, but to her surprise, a killer is loose in the town, and Cassie has tapped into his mind-seeing the victims...before, during and after their deaths. This was a very fast-paced read and it goes without say that the storyline was unique and engrossing. Ms. Hooper is a truly talented author and her characters are larger than life and very vivid. As a result the reader will easily be transport to Ryans Bluff, North Carolina and the make believe world that Kay Hooper has created.

First time Kay Hooper reader. I noticed some plot set ups, much like you would in a suspense or horror movie when you know something bad is going to happen, but aside from those the story was enjoyable enough. Serial killers, psychics, and romance, oh my. Characters were likeable and dis-likeable appropriately and the setting, the North Carolina mountains in winter, was a good choice for a somber setting. The only thing that could have improved the reading experience for me would have been more emotions from the characters. They seemed not to have much emotional response from the deaths of locals in their community which made the romance aspect seem a little flat.

Cassie Neil is a psychic who occasionally aids the police. Unfortunately in LA, she directed the police to the wrong location. By the time the mistake was discovered, a little girl is killed. Blaming herself, she moves to Pine Bluff North Carolina to start over. Cassie reluctantly agrees to help with a series of murders of young women. Will she be able to help them before another one takes place? A good suspenseful thriller.

Good story, well-written and interesting. It's a little too grim for me, though - I'm not into serial murderers, even with psychic powers in the mix. It definitely read like there was a backstory to Bishop, but apparently this was his intro. I rather like Cassie and I really like Ben - Kay Hooper managed to take the romance-standard tropes of 'overwhelming attraction' and 'one person hurt makes the other admit love' and put some very nice twists on them. Ben and his walls were major factors in both the romance and the mystery - not stuck in just for one aspect of the story. Overall, very nicely done - glad I read it. Oddly enough, I seem to have read it before - I rated it - but I didn't remember it at all. No, I seem to have rated all my Hoopers.

Yes, sometimes the heroine has Way Too Much Angst, but this sucked me in, kept me up way past my bedtime and kept me guessing until the end!A burnt out successful psychic retreats to a quiet North Carolina town to find that murder is stalking her, and maybe she's next!
