Synopsis: Doc and Tomlison are going with a friend in search of aircraft that have been missing since World War II. In the process, someone tries to kill them, they find a dog in the Everglades, get mixed up with a drug lord, and befriend a hit man. Doc decides that he is more attracted to Hanna than he thought.Review: This is one of White's better books. I particularly liked it because parts of it are rooted in an actual military mystery. White proposes that the missing military aircraft were flown by 'Code Talkers' and were being trained to guard nuclear material for the bomb that was dropped on Japan.

At first I was enjoying this read. However mid way through the author brought in too many different issues and peripheral characters. I haven't yet finished as it lost my interest. I may force myself to finish. I wouldn't recommend.

Nice to have Doc Ford back in the starring role in this book. Last time out Hannah had that role. I suspect that we will see much more of Hannah after reading this one. As always , the marina regulars and Tomlinson are crucial to the story. Lots of twists, plenty of action and I love the dog.

Night Moves is a very well written book, but that's the best thing I can say about it. Nothing in the plot held my interest. None of the characters were very interesting. And it was way too "wordy" in descriptions of places and people for my tastes, but that in no way downgrades the writer, it's just a personal thing with me.

I read the first Doc Ford novel many years ago. This was the first I have read since then. It's not that I didn't enjoy the first book, i did very much, but I just got distracted because there are so many good books. After reading this, the 20th Doc Ford book, I plan on going back and reading some of the earlier novels. This book was very entertaining and I had the added benefit of learning many things about World War II. I would highly recommend this book. It is very fun and would make a great beach read.

I am a big fan of Randy Wayne White's Doc Ford novels. I have read them all with the exception of Chasing Midnight. I thought Night Moves was another good adventure for the group. I loved the addition of the dog. Hannah Smith - not so much. It does seem like Doc Ford and Tomlinson's characters are changing, which in real life you would expect, but this is fiction. I liked their old dynamic better with not so much tension between them. With that said I still think it was a good read.

Once again Randy Wayne Wright delivers a pulse pounding ride through southeast Florida. This is a wonderful return to the Doc Ford of old with a real- life mystery mixed in with persons from Doc’s sideline. Longtime fans will not be disappointed.

Doc Ford gets involved with a missing cat, an intelligent but stray dog, Tomlinson and his latest psychotic married girlfriend, Voodoo drug dealers, a Brazilian assassin and a search for 5 navy bombers missing since World War II. While Dan Futch, Doc Ford and Tomlinson take a plane ride over the Everglades with an idea about where the missing planes could have crashed, they almost crash land themselves when they find their plane’s rudder sabotaged. All three have made enemies during their remarkable careers and have told their friends different stories about their flight plans over the Everglades. Tomlinson and Ford –as in previous books –keep to a line of patter guaranteed to amuse and entertain the reader. Tomlinson’s latest married partner, Crescent Arturo, somewhat unstable and on the prowl for a new lover or three, has a menacing husband as well as homicidal brother-in-law. Despite warnings by Doc after Crescent tried to sabotage his relationship with Hannah Smith, Tomlinson tries to help her - calling her a tortured and confused soul. Ford finds himself trying to keep his life in Dinkin’s Bay on Sanibel Island from blowing up in his face while protecting his friends and himself. Night Moves is book twenty in the series. Start this adventurous series with Sanibel Flats.

Doc Ford returns along with his hippy friend Tomlinson in an exciting story that has several scenarios intertwined. One, Doc and his friends are searching for WWII torpedo fighters that disappeared near the end of the war, possibly in the Everglades. Two, a strange speedboat is docked and no one has seen the mysterious owner; then a second vessel, a large yacht arrives with a Brazilian at the helm. Three, a soon to be divorced wealthy woman takes up with Tomlinson.Others arrive and are involved; the soon to be ex-husband, a crazy brother-in-law. Doc’s running partner Hannah has problems with Doc and is hired by the Brazilan to take him fishing.Great story with lots of action and mystery. Hopefully there will be more of Doc Ford and his friend Tomlinson.

This Doc Ford book, Night Moves, is much better than his last one. But it is still not as good as his first books. Maybe Doc Ford, like Randy Wayne White, is getting older and slowing down. His thoughts are turning to a life that is more reflective and involved with settling down. There is still some adventure in Night Moves, but it is not central to the plot.Night Moves involves searching for five U.S. Navy Avenger torpedo-bombers comprising Flight 19 that disappeared over the Bermuda Triangle in 1945. There have been massive amounts of research and effort put into searching for these planes and their crews. Night Moves uses this research to make the book more interesting.Along the way Doc Ford and Tomlinson run into a Brazilian assassin and a smoking hot married woman who is looking for romance. Doc Ford seems to have a really hard time fighting off the advances of this woman and too much of the book is devoted to the interaction between Doc and Cressa Arturo. The Brazilian assassin adds an unusual character to the mix. He and Doc Ford seem to bond. They also find an amazing dog, which turns out to be the most interesting and fun character in the book. Hopefully he will be in the next Doc Ford book.I enjoyed this book and I will continue to read Doc Ford, but it would be nice to get back into the action and adventure that were so much a part of the earlier books.

As expected, Mr. White has written another gem!!! The suspense begins during the first several chapters, and doesn't let up!!! The only problem with reading books by Randy Wayne White is that you have to wait while he writes another!!!!!

Night Moves, the 20th in the Doc Ford series, is scheduled for publication in March and I know anyone who has read Randy Wayne White's books will want to snap it up. White is prominent on my list of favorite authors because he creates unique and memorable characters to populate intriguing stories set around Sanibel Island, Florida. Doc Ford is a marine biologist, who readers will know has a second, secret life, and he gets involved in all kinds of dangerous investigations in and around the Everglades. I love Ford's friend and neighbor Tomlinson who is hilarious no matter what kind of trip he's on. He has taken almost every drug in existence and sort of levels out at a degree of highness in which he can function but is unpredictable. In this one he has a bumbling but dangerous drug dealer from Haiti on his trail. We also have two mysterious, very expensive boats newly docked at the marina where Ford and Tomlinson live on their boats, Tomlinson's new married mistress and her crazy in-laws, and a lively survivor of a dog Ford saves that has part of a boa constrictor in his mouth and fangs buried in his hide. Additionally, there is a rich, sophisticated hit man. Who is the hit man's target? Hopefully it isn't Ford. As well, we have another of Ford's friends, a pilot who thinks he may have found the remains of WW II planes that disappeared in the 1940s. All of these characters have a definite place in the story and White makes discovering how the tale comes together entertaining. Part of the book is frightening because Ford is in real danger, but I have to admit laughing my way through the rest. In this 20th adventure I even see a hint of a midlife crisis for Doc Ford. I do hope he won't go soft on us.Source: Amazon VineRecommended reading, a must for Randy Wayne White fans.

Night Moves is Randy Wayne White's 20th novel in the Doc Ford thriller series. I remember reading the first novel, Sanibel Flats, when it was published in 1991. In those days, I enjoyed reading mystery series like those of John D. MacDonald and Robert B. Parker and was always looking for a new investigator character to follow. Doc Ford is a black ops individual who is in partial retirement keeping a low profile as a marine biologist. The secret agency background of the character did not appeal to me in the first novel because I liked the intelligent, regular guy types like Travis McGee and Spenser. I read Night Moves skipping ahead 18 novels in the series.Doc Ford has become a more complex, introspective character than he was in Book 1. It is obvious that Mr. White has become a skilled writer of thrillers, and I enjoyed reading his new book more than I did his first one. Doc and his friend aging hipster Tomlinson are interested in potentially new evidence of the fate of Flight 19, described in a famous account of WWII planes that supposedly disappeared in the "Bermuda Triangle" on a training mission. With their seaplane pilot friend, Futch, the three fly to the site of potential Flight 19 remains on a mangrove island in southwest Florida. This location is not in the Bermuda Triangle, so it could be a fascinating puzzle for the three men to solve. The adventure takes a dangerous turn when the three are almost killed in a suspicious malfunction of their seaplane. The plot thickens with the interactions of mysterious characters: an assassin on vacation, two brothers filming very competitive fishing, a wealthy attractive woman facing divorce, a voodoo Haitian drug dealer, a dog with unusual skills, and Hannah a fishing guide with a budding relationship with Doc. Hannah was introduced by Mr. White in a related novel (but not part of the series) Gone (A Hannah Smith Novel) prior to Night Moves.I liked the newest version of Doc Ford's personality and enjoyed the unpredictable night moves of the characters in Book 20. I am considering going back to read all of the novels in the Doc Ford series. Comment | Permalink
