Four women find themselves in a sweltering Georgia farm kitchen canning fruit and vegetables. Each has come to a crossroads; each is facing a personal crisis. They have almost nothing in common -- except they're together and they're women. Although Hold up the Sky started out a bit slowly, soon I found myself reading it compulsively. Patricia Sprinkle is a marvelous writer, one who knows how to tell a great story, create believable and likable characters -- and readers will know from page one that all these women's problems will be resolved in the end. Patricia Sprinkle is best known for her mysteries -- and she's been a favorite author of mine for a long time. I don't think she could help herself adding a bit of a mystery to the mix. But Hold up the Sky is not a mystery -- it's a great example of cozy fiction.03/08/2010
