Now, working together to race against the clock and a deadly terrorist faction, Leo and Olivia must find the missing capsule, all the while battling the intense desire burning between them. If they manage to survive, can their growing attraction become more than just a momentary flare?

Leo Anderson and his other SEAL buddies have left the service and started a salvage business. Leo's father was a treasure hunter who spent his life looking for a sunken Spanish treasure ship. After his death, Leo decided to try to find the ship himself. They are living on Leo's family island when Leo's old flame CIA agent Olivia shows up asking for a favor. She and her CIA boss planned a sting involving chemical weapons in order to unmask a mole in the CIA but things went wrong. She needs the team's expertise to recover the chemicals without letting the mole know. The chemistry between Leo and Olivia is hot but their lifestyles are not compatible. Also, Olivia is on orphan who grew up never having anyone love her or want to stay with her. It takes a while but that is what Leo wants. Now, all he has to do is convince Olivia. Of course, he has to do his convincing while battling ISIS terrorists who hijack a yacht, blow up their salvage boat, and otherwise cause mayhem. There was a little too much overly descriptive sex in this one but I did find the characters engaging and will probably follow along with this series to see if the other men also find their true loves.

After reading the first three books in the Black Knights series, I gave up continuing the series because I just couldn't connect with the characters or stories. I thought I would give Walker another chance with this new series especially since I like stories about SEALS and underwater salvage. Unfortunately, the characters in this story were impossible to like because all they did was make flip comments and reference pop culture ad nauseam. We don't really get to know their personalities or backgrounds until the end when the main characters of Olivia and Leo reveal a little about themselves to each other. The only character that I enjoyed was Maddy. Her pop culture references fit her character and the names she gave to each of the men were adorable. I really liked the idea of this story, and at the end there is a hint that they might finally search for the sunken ship that was their original goal. I'm not sure, though, if I want to invest any more time in this series.

Very good book with fast-paced, intense action and well-done relationship building. Leo and his five former SEAL teammates are well on their way to keeping their promise to a dead friend. During a mission gone wrong, he told them to get out while they still could and start living their lives. The six friends have banded together to search for a sunken treasure ship.I loved Leo, formerly the team leader and still the man they all look to. He feels responsible for making sure their new venture is a success. I really liked the way that he listens to what everyone else has to say before making a decision. He's calm in a crisis, focused and intense when the situation calls for it. He is also facing his inability to get CIA agent Olivia off his mind.I also really liked Olivia. She is strong, confident, and independent. She is a risk taker, which sometimes comes back to bite her in the butt, which is what has brought her to Leo's doorstep. She owns up to her mistakes and does what she can to fix them. She hasn't been able to forget Leo, either, and he is the one she thinks of when she needs help.I really enjoyed the development of Leo and Olivia's relationship. They had gotten to know each other during a previous mission. The chemistry between them was intense, but they were unable to pursue it. They haven't seen each other since the terrible end to that mission until Olivia shows up on Leo's doorstep. The heat between them is just as strong as it was before, and neither quite realizes the truth of why right away. Neither has considered any long-term relationship before thanks to incompatible careers. I loved their interactions as Leo's protectiveness comes up against Olivia's independence. I liked the way that Leo knew when it was a lost cause and accepted that Olivia could hold her own. There are also a couple of funny scenes as their chemistry heats up, only to have interruption after interruption throw cold water on it. Leo is the first to realize the depth of his feelings for Olivia and has to figure out how to convince her to take a chance on them. I ached for Olivia because she wants Leo, but is carrying a secret and a load of guilt from their last mission together. This secret comes out at the worst possible time, and Olivia pushes Leo away. They are pulled further apart by the aftermath of their mission. Leo is determined not to give up on her, and what they could have together. I loved the ending and their big moment as Leo is finally able to break through the last of Olivia's walls. The scene on the beach was heartbreaking, but also sweet and romantic. I'm looking forward to seeing more of them both in later books. The suspense of the story was great. It was fast-paced and intense. From Olivia's arrival to the final battle, most of it takes place over the course of about twenty-four hours. Our heroes have to deal with terrorists, a hijacked yacht, rocket launchers, sinking ships and underwater battles before their mission is done. I was frequently on the edge of my seat as I wondered how they were going to get out of their current situation. As the first book in the series, there was a fair amount of time spent on the backstory leading up to the beginning. The flashbacks experienced by Leo and Olivia gave a vivid picture of the events that have affected them so deeply. I also enjoyed meeting each of the other SEALs and seeing how each of them fit into the team. Each one has a unique personality and quirks that add to the story. I especially loved Bran and his ability to jerk Leo's chain on a regular basis. Beyond that, the teamwork and connection among them all made the action scenes even more exciting. I also enjoyed getting to know Maddy. She was calm and cool during the whole hijacking scene. I also enjoyed seeing her stand up to the guys and match wits with Bran.

Loved this book. If you're looking for a romance book that has lots of action and tension then this is it. Leo and Olivia were a great couple with so much between them that if they didn't get a HEA then I would've broken my Kindle. I was seriously rooting for them to the very last page.

What is there not to love?2: Loved Maddie: So yes she is the leading lady in the NEXT Deep Six book but she totally stole the page when she was on it!3: Olivia: Wish I loved her more but she was a smart tough cookie. I admired her and Leo loved her. That is enough for me.4: Leo: OMG I totally fell in love with pretty much within the first 4 chapters. He was strong, loyal, a bit smart assy, and willing to do anything for his friends.5: The ACTION: This was a freaking hellish day but oh what a ride! I love the Black Knight Inc stories but this series has the potential to be more explosive!Audio Thoughts: Narrated By Mackenzie Cartwright / Length: 12 hrs and 29 mins I enjoyed the narration by Mackenzie. She did a really great job with pacing and style. I had a slight problem with her male voices but warmed up to the by the end of the book. Easy to listen to though and her voice for Maddie was just spot-on! So Book 2 will be in audio for me if she is still doing the narration. My Updates06/29 marked as: currently-reading5.0% "#Listening odd start but I trust JAW so we will see where this goes."24.0% "#listening I love the guys--not sold on Olivia yet but boy do I like Maddie!"28.0% "#Listening Really wish this would have had a male narrator. Hell or High Water by Julie Ann Walker is a 2015 Sourcebooks Casablanca publication. I was provided a copy of this book by the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Most of us know JAW from her mega popular Black Knight series and we've come to expect high octane, fast paced, action packed romantic suspense. This new series gets off to a solid start as we meet Leo and his crew, a group of Navy SEALS who have officially “retired” after a failed mission that took the life of one of their comrades. Leo was on a operation in Syria working with CIA agent Olivia Mortier, and the two were close to acting on the sizzling chemistry between them when things imploded and Leo found himself out of the SEALS forever. But, now Olivia is in need of a topnotch diving team for a highly secretive, off the record, operation in which innocent lives are at stake. Leo and his team are the best there is, but could Olivia have an ulterior motive in asking for their help? Can she convince Leo to put his plans of locating an old Spanish Galleon and going on a treasure hunt on the back burner for awhile in order to help her? Who doesn't love a high seas adventure? Leo “the lion” is a perfect hero with a SEAL background, and just the right amount of that military alpha male trait, but not over the top macho. Olivia is also a great character, a woman who has been forced to keep her emotions in check due to her career in the CIA, but who is approaching thirty , and wishing for a little more from life outside of her job. She' s smart, holds her own under pressure, but has a softer, human side too. “Remaining aloof and unloved would be her decision and – Whoa there, Nelly. Don't go getting all maudlin. Next thing you know, you'll be sporting sweats, eating frozen dinners, and drinking boxed wine. Olivia Mortier: cover girl of Woe is Me magazine.”Sometimes, the first book in a new series can leave me feeling a little disoriented, and I did suffer from that a little with this one. Setting the stage for the series, introducing us to all the players, setting up the next book, and still coming up with a plot line interesting enough to entice readers to return for the follow up, can make the story a little too busy, and at times I did think there was a little too much going on or too many people involved. However, I enjoyed this one mainly because of it's setting on the high seas, which is kind of different for a change, and I thought it added a little panache to the adventure side of things plus the dialogue between Olivia and Leo was snappy and sharp, and I thought the chemistry between them was palpable, not forced or focused solely on the physical aspect of the relationship. The secondary characters rounded out the story nicely and added humor and comic relief to this tense thriller. Overall, I think this is story gives the series a strong lead in and I'm really looking forward to the next installment. 4 stars

Wow! That was to have been one of the best reads I've had in along time. There was drama, lots of suspense and action, and to lighten the story, the guy's in the Deep Six team had great camaraderie and they had great fun with one another and had me laughing on many occasion, also the story had me in tears when a comrade was lost. The mixture of the guy's trying to retire and salvaging then going back into action one more time was just right. I love it.I'm eagerly awaiting the next Deep Six story as I enjoyed this one so much. 5/5
