About this audiobook

He was my boss, my brother's friend, a Widow, an ex-felon, and a man I'd seen casually with a handful of women. But he was everything that gripped me, both the good and the bad. Worst case scenario: if things turned awkward between us, I could go somewhere else. I'd gotten over epic heartbreak before; one more wouldn't kill me.

After moving to Austin following six months of unemployment back home, Iris Taylor knows she should be glad to have landed a job so quickly . . . even if the business is owned by a member of the same motorcycle club her estranged father used to belong to. Except Dex Locke might just be the biggest jerk she's ever met. He's rude and impatient, and he doesn't know how to tell time.

And the last thing they ever expected was each other.

Contains mature themes.

Awesome! Iris is hilarious and Dex is HOT! One of those books that makes you break into a grin wherever you're listening to it. Sooo good.

If you're looking for the grumpy sunshine trope, this falls into that category. There are MC aspects, but the story focuses on Iris and Dex. He is possessive and jealous with anger issues(no dv or anything towards Iris). I could fully relate to Iris and I think that's why I enjoyed the story so much. It is slow burn and worth the wait in my opinion.
I thought Dex was over the top in many ways and sometimes I really hate the whole "he's slept with hundreds of women but freaks out if a man talks to her." And I get annoyed when birth control isn't discussed beforehand, esp when she's so inexperienced, he should be taking care of her. But those are just my opinions and didn't deduct from the author's work itself so not taking any stars from that. The narrator did a great job, I imagine it's not easy to do so many voices. Overall really enjoying this author's books and looking forward to the others!

First of all - there was something wrong with the audiobook. It would skip some parts of the chapters (not sure if it was only on my device?). Luckily I had a paperback too and so had to switch to a physical copy of the book.
When it comes to the story - it was ok, but not much more. I liked All Rhodes Lead Here or The Wall of Winnipeg And Me more - the stories in these books are more interesting to me, but Under Locke has more spice. If you are a fan of Zapata’s writing, you will probably find this book ok. It’s a slow burn romance, with a handsome grumpy man and a slightly helpless but stubborn lead girl.

Disappointed. Normally love this author. The story and characters were not engaging, and I only half listened most of the time.

The beginning was slow and kinda repetitive, but did get better maybe a third of the way thru. I did really like it overall. This is my first book by this author and look forward to listening to/reading others from her.

I felt like it was sooo slow in the beginning and then rushed in the end. Also, I’m probably jaded by other MC books I’ve read where men spoke to women far worse than in this book and she was SO offended! It felt like she just couldn’t get over being called an idiot and it was actually cringey after a while.

So many problems with him oh my god he doesn't understand no at all and her... I can't. She's not supposed to have opinion or attitude when he's calling her dumb and stupid cause he can't controle himself when he's angry and he doesn't mean all that he just cares?????????? WTF IS THAT BS there were fee cute moment but that it.

Re-read rating: 4 stars. I'm going to deduct a star after my re-read. It was still a very enjoyable a book, but it was unnecessarily long. The first time reading it, I throughly enjoyed every part, but the second time reading it a lot of things felt like they could be omitted and even changed to make things more interesting.

I couldn’t finish this. I really liked Zapata’s other books but I found the protagonist, Iris annoying and immature. The narrator didn’t help either.

Oh boy was this one steamy.

I loved Dex. I didn't think I would love him as much as the other Mariana book boyfriends in my life but he went right up there. There were some really steamy scenes, and Dex knows his way around the bedroom, for sure. He's a beautiful man really.

Iris and Dex build such a great foundation after the initial phase of Dex being a grump. He's still a grump all the way through but just a grump to everyone else. Iris really had to be more of a grown-up before her time and I rooted for her many times through out the story. She was really dealt a bad deck of cards but thankfully she had some real gems fighting her corners.

This is a slightly different story from what Mariana has previously written buts she's stayed true to what she knows and that's the grumpy/sunshine.

Absolutely adored this book and would recommend it to anyone.

Reviewing on second read in 2021. This book still holds up for me. I originally rated it 4 stars in 2017 and I'll stick with that. `I still like how Iris is able to find the soft underbelly of Dex Locke. I like them as a couple because they are so opposite. I like the friendships between the workers at Pins. I'm not as big of a fan of the whole MC environment although this book is calm compared to some other MC romances I have read. I would have to say that this is probably the steamiest of Mariana's books and while it has a slow burn, it is not as slow as her other books.

I've been reading a lot of darker themed books lately. This was sweet and sprinkled with humor. It was just what I needed. I like how the bikers were able to be good guys and still be believable. I also like how the heroine wasn't physically perfect, yet she still was if you know what I mean. Great story. :)

This book could have been good but instead turned out to be a bad copy of Kristen Ashley's work in the beginning (the same as Sweet Dreams) and after a pain in the neck for that irritating female mc. The two stars and a half are only for Dex who is the best character of the book...and it's not much to brag about.

very slow development of the story. so slow I almost stopped trying. made it through but the epilogue was so confusing. are they married? this story needs an editor .
