- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I couldn't help but be drawn into the storyline. The love for a man for so very long to finally come to culmination is wonderous.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5The plot and scenario was predictable. It really needed something extra to redeem it, but was just like every other title using this story line.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Most of the girls will be able to identify with Julianne's problems. How do you know if I guy loves you just as a friend or as something more? How to play hard to get and don't over-do it and push him away? And how to stop loving him if he does not deserve it?
I really liked Julianne, she is lively and full of spirit. Her schemes are always getting her in trouble. In fact she gets in trouble even when she is not trying. And in the end she matures and grows-ups...
On other hand, Hawk was very badly portrayed in my opinion. His thoughts and feelings were never clear and mostly were mingled jealousy or i-want-her-in-my-bed-but-it-is-wrong problem... That's why I gave this book only 3 stars. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This was the first of Ms. Dreiling's books that I have had the pleasure of reading, but I definitely plan to read the first one as well as Amy's story. The writing was both beautiful and vivid, and I adore the time period that it reflected. The characters came alive to me, and I was hoping the best for Hawk and his Julie-girl the entire time. The fact that the author kept Hawk's indiscretion a secret until almost the end had me turning the pages as fast as I could. I can't wait to read the next book about shy Amy.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5How do you seduce a scoundrel? If you are anything like me, you cannnot help but be drawn to the bad boy, the feverishly sexy guy you know you shouldn't want, but do anyways. Wouldn't you want to know HOW to seduce him, to make him yours, not just for now, but for always? Well, do you bat your eyes at him? Do you display your luscious bosom in a sexy but classy gown? Do you laugh at his witty remarks and play a little hard to get? Well, my fellow romance lovers, the answers are here for you in Vicky Dreiling's second novel,"How to Seduce a Scoundrel".Our heroine, Julianne Gatewick, needs to seduce a scoundrel, and not just any-old-scoundrel. We are talking about her brother's best friend, Marc Darcett, the Earl of Hawkfield (aka Hawk). How do you seduce a man that you've known since you were a little girl, a man who is reputed to be a complete rogue, a man whom you have loved since you were 9 years old? Julianne is determined to make Hawk hers, but how does she convince him that she is no longer his innocent little Julie-girl, but a beautiful, engaging woman?Hawk had no idea that being the guardian for his best friend's sister would be such a task! She has young bucks surrounding her at all times wherever she goes, and Hawk, being a man, knows EXACTLY what is on their minds, and it's not sharing a game of lawn bowling! Soon enough, Hawk realizes that Julianne isn't a little girl, but a exceptionally beautiful woman with curves he would like to stroke and eyes he could loose himself in and hair that he could sink his fingers through. Wait. This is his best friend's sister. He cannot have these desires for his Julie-girl. It's not right...or is it?I really enjoyed this book. In fact, I think I liked it more than the first book! I laughed at the banter between Hawk and Julianne and you could just feel the chemistry building between them. The scene where Julianne and her girlfriends get sloshed at an evening soiree is hilarious! The secondary characters are meaningful and memorable. I think Lady Rutledge stole the book. She is Hawk's aunt who is a no-nonsense, tell it like it is kind of gal. I loved her. She encourages Julianne to write a pamphlet to help the single girls catch a man, with many of the ideas coming from Lady Rutledge herself. This is a great summer read where the characters learn and grow. With the help of Julianne's true love, Hawk learns to forgive himself for a grave mistake in his past. Julianne learns that there is more to love than just outward appearances. What's beautiful is on the inside of both a man and a woman.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Julianne is sweet but a handful and when she is scorned, she gets revenge! After being publicly disrespected by Marc, she starts an anonymous scandal sheet that reveals a lot of secrets. Marc has many secrets of his own and you wonder if he can ever see far enough to realize that Julianne is in love with him. I just thought this was a wonderful historical romance with wonderful contemporary touches. This book does contain some of the same characters as the first in the series, but I think it can stand on its own.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5After reading and falling in love with Vicky Dreiling’s debut novel, How to Marry a Duke, I couldn’t wait for her next release. Having become familiar with main characters, Julianne and Hawk, over the course of the first book, I was eager to see the direction the author took with their forbidden romance.Julianne is younger and more naive than what I’m used to in a historical romance main character. I think this really showcased her role as the younger, and sometimes coddled, sibling of a very overprotective older brother. As a reader, I appreciated how much room this gave her to grow. I did enjoy her strong and stubborn nature. I have difficulty relating to female character who err on the side of weak minded, and was thrilled Julianne was anything but. I really grew to adore her over the course of the novel, and felt having her write a sinful pamphlet advising others on how to land a man suited her mischievous nature perfectly. As for love interest Hawk, I don’t think he is a character all readers will enjoy. He was completely blind to Julianne’s feelings, and inadvertently hurt her on numerous occasions. Having spent his life looking at her as his best friend’s little sister, seeing her as a grown (and beautiful) woman was an adjustment. For me, I truly enjoyed watching him reform from Hawk the notorious rake to the man he becomes at the conclusion of the novel. I thought the chemistry between him and Julianne was spot on. There was very little about this couple I didn’t enjoy.Hawk’s aunt Hester was probably the highlight of How to Seduce a Scoundrel. Her eccentricities and advice for the young women seeking a husband were priceless. Novels need more characters like her. She made me laugh out loud on more occasions than I can count. I just loved her!Aside from enjoyable characters, the storyline of this novel was a good one. I enjoyed watching “The Secret of Seductions” form from initial idea until the upheaval its publication causes. I love how fresh and unique Vicky Dreiling’s ideas are. It really makes this series something special. She also has such a fun writing style, and I love the wit that encases her dialogue. She really gives historical romance a fun and feisty edge!Vicky Dreiling’s series is a must read for all fans of historical romance! While How to Seduce a Scoundrel can easily be read on its own, I highly recommend reading the series in order.
