About this audiobook

Elizabeth Chapman is saved from an armed robber by a giant Kodiak bear who shifts into a large, well-muscled, and fully naked human male. But when it's revealed that the robber is the brother of a dangerous criminal, Elizabeth finds herself the target of a vendetta.

Ronan, the Bear Shifter, takes her to Shiftertown for safety. Here Elizabeth learns that the mateless Ronan, alone in the world, takes care of Shifters who have also been left on their own. Having grown up in foster care, Elizabeth can only admire how protective Ronan is.

But Ronan will only let Elizabeth leave the confines of Shiftertown if he becomes her 24/7 bodyguard. Elizabeth chafes at her restriction, but agrees. The trouble is, the sassy human Elizabeth is triggering Ronan's long-buried need to find himself a mate.

I enjoyed this book. It was action packed, interesting and fun! I usually don't like Novella's but I enjoyed this one! I recommend however, that you read the first two books before you read this one.

Simple and sweet, I'm a fan of bear shifters. There's always hugging and honey.

The story was okay, but personally, I just didn't "get" the connection between Elizabeth and Ronan. I think this was a .5 novella, so maybe it was just used to introduce some characters &/or educate readers about Shiftertown, but I just didn't get it. A lot of people love this series so I borrowed it, and I have another (Hard Mated) that I borrowed still to read, so I'm holding my opinion back about my personal preference for this series until I give it another chance. I do have to say I went & canceled my holds on the other books available until I'm sure...

Bodyguard is a short story in the series between Primal Bonds and Wild Cat. I was really happy to see Ronan's story even as a short. Elizabeth is a human but she doesn't believe that shifters should be discriminated against so her store is open to them. She also has a past that she ran from to protect her baby sister and she learned early on that she could count on no one but herself. Ronan is a protective, dominant bear shifter. But he's patient and understands the need to allow Elizabeth to come to terms on her own. It's a lovely romance with interesting plot twists along the way.

I was not happy that in this book, shifters are collared and kept in restricted "shifter-only" communities. They are treated more like animals than humans by most full-humans out of their fear of the unknown. Although I didn't like it, it does add to the drama of this story. I liked Elizabeth right away. She has spunk, determination and seems fearless, though she has much to fear, and much to hide. The shifters were written pretty true to most shifter stories, and I found myself liking them and feeling bad for their situation. This story was well-written and intriguing, and although there is a few sex scenes, they are not the main focus of the story and add to the romance between the characters. Overall, I'd give this a solid 4 wings! Definitely worth the $0.99 I spent!

The combination of angsty worldbuilding and OTT cheeseball storytelling doesn't really work for me. Add in sloppy editing mistakes and forget it.I really enjoyed book one in this series - the world building was great and the characters and romance were believable and fun. Book two was a let-down, but I was still willing to continue the series. After this, though, I'm done. The characters were cliches, the plot was simplistic and the writing -- so disappointing. I know Ms. Ashley can do better.

Great Story! Great Characters! Love that didn't feel rushed! I now want a bear shifter!Part of my Read It, Rate It, File It, DONE! Reviews

Elizabeth, has worked very hard to make a fresh start, and with her store finally doing well, then one evening someone bursts into her store and attempts to rob her, and then a big kodiak bear saves the day....when Ronan saves Elizabeth from being killed, he ends up being blamed for attacking a human, and only with Elizabeth's testimony does he get free, and he desires to protect her from those who would seek revenge. Elizabeth at first doesn't want to believe in the danger that threatens both herself and her sister, but when she starts to realize who is really involved in getting revenge, she starts to realize that how much she needs Ronan and his protective nature, and sooner than she would ever think she starts to fall in love with the most adorable bear in the county, who despite being a shifter bear, is so tender and loving but she doesn't know if she can trust Ronan or her heart...but she doesn't dare mess up the best thing that has ever happened to her...Bodyguard is a e book between the second and third in the series, and its Ronan's story, and those of you who have read this series, just fall in love with Ronan and I would love to find my own 'Ronan'. Bodyguard was such an endearing story and only .99 cents on Kindle, so I was thrilled when it wasn't a short story, but novel size, and I couldn't put it down I was so enthralled by the story. I have noticed that with Jennifer Ashley I think to myself am I really going to like this one, but I am always surprised by how good it is, how much I fall in love with the stories and the characters, and the same is true with Bodyguard. Its probably my favorite book so far in the series, of course the other two are not far behind, I think the one thing that I loved the most, is the romance in this story, so beautifully written and I also enjoyed the conflict, it wasn't the kind the would send your heart racing, yet it wasn't like it wasn't enough of conflict, I found it balanced the story really well and I definitely just loved every aspect....a fun and exciting, and it seemed to be a perfect addition to the best series Ashley has come up with yet..

I don’t really have anything bad to say about this story, but if I had to nitpick I’d say it’s a little bit frustrating to have Ronan’s past “almost mating” brought up, but that isn’t talked out, a complication to the plot, or even referred to in thought at any further time in the story. Why was it mentioned if it wasn’t significant to his character or the development of the plot? That said, I forgot about it while reading the story and it didn’t bother me until I started writing the review. I like how much action the story had and how complicated and strong of a character Elizabeth was throughout the story because of it. I also enjoyed the way that such a strong, multi-faceted hero was able to deal with the complications in his heroines’s past and how completely unpushy he was. You don’t see that often of males in paranormal and history romances — there is often a much greater inner conflict and overbearing attitude in such heroes, but Ronan seems to take everything in stride. All of the characters in this series are well developed and that’s part of what makes the series so enjoying to read. I love getting small glimpses of characters and the excitement that follows waiting on more stories to delve further into their lives. If you’re a fan of historical romances I highly recommend the Highland Pleasures Series featuring the Mackenzies, also by Jennifer Ashley.Maybe I should make some star images to go on the new blog. 4 1/2 out of 5 stars!
