Reviews for Lost Legacy

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5amateur-sleuth, cozy-mystery, suspense, mystery, law-enforcement, family-dynamics, friendship*****A fast paced mystery full of red herrings and other distractions that kept me reading it all day! Well drawn characters who interact in both predictable and totally different ways. Loved it!Narrator Romy Nordlinger uses drama when needed and a matter of fact approach when appropriate.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Lost Legacy is the story of hidden family secrets. Since everyone has a family of some sort, I think most people will find that intriguing. Zoe Chambers, EMT in Monongahela County PA, didn’t realize there were any family secrets in her family until a farmer turns up dead in a barn that her uncles use to own. When the investigation into the death begins, it gets very personal for Zoe very quickly. Her mom and stepdad coming to visit from Florida don’t help the situation. This is the second mystery in the Zoe Chambers series and I am really enjoying them. In the first one, Circle of Influence, we met our characters, Zoe, Pete, Sylvia, the Krolls, and they became people we could relate to instantly. There wasn’t any of that first-book-in-a-series awkwardness. Now we meet Zoe’s mom and Pete’s dad. The characters become even more 3-dimensional. Annette Dashofy knows how to write realistic characters. This is what I classify as a Contemporary Traditional Mystery. It’s not a cozy but it’s not gritty. The mystery is the focus and it’s well done. There are believable red herrings and the answer makes sense with what we’ve read. I’m definitely ready to move on to the next one!Book provided by Netgalley but my reviews are always honest and written for other readers like me.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Lost Legacy starts with Zoe Chambers in her ambulance on the way to a 'farm accident with probable DOA'. The address bothers her. Turns out to be a farm that was once in her mother's family. I felt the anxiety and adrenaline that goes with a job like that. And, faster that an EMT can strap you to a gurney, you are caught up in the unfolding drama.
Because the barn with the definitely DOA man is the same barn in which two of Zoe's great-uncles died nearly 50 years before. These two men changed their wills shortly before their deaths to make the 'freshly-dead' (so to speak) man their beneficiary instead of Zoe's maternal grandmother.
Add to this mixture the facts that the drunk driver responsible for Zoe's father's fatal accident is the same one who found the new body; Zoe's mother and step-father have come to visit; and Zoe's will-they-ever-admit-it-to-each-other love interest's (who happens to be the Chief of Police in the township) father with Alzheimer's is staying with him temporarily.
When I read Lost Legacy, I stayed up wa-a-ay to late to finish it. Stopping for something like sleep would be like being taken to the hospital in an ambulance and jumping out half-way. There are as many twists, turns and motives as there are curves in a country backroad. But, thanks to Dashofy's fluid writing, I never lost track.
So strap on your seat belt and put it in to high gear, because this book is a fantastic ride!
(Disclosure: I received an e-copy of this book in exchange for my unbiased opinion.) - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/55 STARS This is the second book in the Zoe Chambers Mystery collection. I really like this series of books. Lost Legacy is very good at keeping you guessing what is going on. I really like Zoe, Harry and Pete characters. I laughed with everyone loosing Harry by turning their back for a few minutes. I have not lost a parent that way but a two year old all the time. Lots of suspects, murder and mystery. Zoe Chambers is a Paramedic and deputy corner. She is single and has been flirting with Pete. She takes care of a horse boarding farm, for board for her and her horse. Police Chief Pete Adams is a good cop. His father has Alzheimer's. He has been divorced. He has been flirting with Zoe. Harry Adams has Alzheimer's his daughter has been taking care of him but needs a vacation for a couple of weeks and drops him off without notice. Zoe gets called out to a barn where a farmer is hanged in a barn. She knows that this barn has a weird history. Someone decades ago committed suicide and another man was murdered. Now another death is taking place. It was Zoe's great Uncles. Her mom and grandma think they were both murdered. Her mother and stepfather have come for a visit from Florida. More and more secrets are revealed as they look into this suicide and the two deaths decades ago. They found a letter that hints that Zoe's own fathers death might not be caused by a car accident like she was told. The setting is Monongahela County in southeastern Pennsylvania. Lot of farm country and small town. I read Lost Legacy and did not want to put it down till I was done. I liked the community of characters and would be glad to see them again in a new mystery.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Zoe studied Pete. Police Chief Pete Adams. Always in control, Pete, who never took crap from anyone. Pete, who could calm the township's fears or shut up a pushy newshound with one look. And now here he sat. Helpless. With his ass hanging out of a hospital gown. Unfortunately for her, he was lying on his back.I just really love this series. It is just so easy to get hooked into these books that time just flies by. In this book Zoe Chambers, while still doing her work as a paramedic, gets caught up in the investigation of an apparent suicide that might have a connection to the deaths of some of Zoe's distant relatives.Zoe is back and she is working with Chief of Police Pete Adams and I just wish that they will finally turn their friendship into a relationship. I just love seeing them work together again. They have a great dynamic. I also really enjoyed the secondary characters, especially Pete's dad, Harry. I loved Harry and hope that there is more of him in this series. The one character that I absolutely loathed was Zoe's mom, Kimberly. She was such a bitch and I felt so bad for Zoe.It was really easy to get caught up in the plot of this book. I, of course, had my theories as to what I thought happened and I turned out to be wrong. When I really think about it it isn't extremely hard to figure out who was behind everything but it won't lessen your interest any.I was going to give this book five stars until I got to the big conflict at the end. There was one glaring fact that I felt made the conflict a bit unbelievable. It was still exciting nonetheless.I would recommend this book and series if you are looking for a great mystery filled with characters that jump off of the pages. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the galley.
