This is the third of the Betsy Taylor Queen of the Vampires series and is the one that in my mind lives up to the howling hilarity of the first. The first two being Undead and Unwed (buy a copy of this immediately, but don't read on public transport unless you want to be stared at for losing control of your bladder) and the slightly meh Undead and Unemployed. Betsy is irascible as ever, she insists on trying not to drink blood, preferring coffee and trying to encourage her friends Jessica and Mark to eat things in front of her so she can enjoy the experience second hand. She's Evanovich's Stephanie Plum in vampire form; bumbling, well meaning and just a teensy bit not the sharpest tool in the shed. She's still stuck ruling the vampire world with sexy Eric Sinclair at her side, although their relationship must be improving as she resists calling him Finklair for this instalment. Betsy's unlife is about to get worse as her stepmonster Antonia is due to give birth to a new half brother or sister, and is characteristically snotty about Betsy attending the baby shower. Things really get messed up when Betsy learns that Antonia was pregnant before, the usual story girl meets married man tries to trap him into cementing the affair by getting pregnant...gets possessed by the Devil instead, gives birth to the Anti-Christ who is destined to dominate the world and then snaps to one day a year later and gives the baby up for adoption...you know how it goes. This instalment is a hoot, Betsy very unwisely reads the Book of the Dead and goes slightly Uber-Evul attacking her friends, getting down and dirty with Sinclair under the influence and finds herself having to make amends and track down a nefarious sibling and demi-evil, as well as deal with slacker employees striking at her vampire nightclub Scratch. Davidson delivers in spades in this one; the humour is witty, you just want to hug poor alienated Betsy and she handles the new addition of the Devil's daughter Laura really well. I love the fact that Laura is a perfect shiny and wholesome girl and that Betsy says she must be evil as she can eat tons of sugary snacks and not gain a single pound! Equally priceless is Betsy meeting the Devil for the first time and being deeply covetous of her shoes. This is brilliant, funny, romantic fluffy vamp chick lit at its finest and I can't wait for the newest ones to come out.

Undead and Unappreciated is the book that shows how dangerous the Book of the Dead is to read and introduces Betsy's half-sister, Laura Goodman, whose mother is Satan as well as Betsy's stepmother, "the Ant". Given what happens much later in the series, I think Tina asked a very good question.

I really like this series a lot and this book brings in another major character, Laura, the devil spawn who is destined to rule the world. She also just happens to be Betsy's half sister. The laughs are still coming and my only complaint with the book is it's too short. But that's a minor complaint, I'd much rather wish for longer books then feel that the story has been padded.

This series goes on and on and it's always full of surprises and humour. I loved this book, like I love every other book in the series too. Also the fact that Eric Sinclair seems to get hotter and hotter I couldn't stop reading even if I wanted to. Also the fact that this series is actually happening in Minnesota, where I used to live. It makes everything even better.

Third installment in the Undead series. This one has nearly everything going wrong for Betsy. She reads from the Book of the Dead and goes crazy for a night. She finds out not only that her stepmom is having another baby, but also had one before who turns out to literally be the spawn of Satan. Light and fun read overall. Read it in one day.

Once again, a fun read with laughs. This one didn't have as many laughs and the fun started to be a little tiring for me. To be fair, this the 3rd one I've read in a month so I may just need to put it down for a month or two. It is the same silliness and it can get old if you get to much at a time. I wanted to get down with the series, but I think I'll have to take it slowly.

In this installment, everything seems to go wrong for Betsy. She alienates her friends and Sinclair and feels all alone. Lucky thing she has found a new friend in her 1/2 sister who also may be the daughter of Satan She finds out that new friends cannot replace the old, what's a girl, Queen of the Vamps to do? Mope, whine about it, definitely. It is a fun story line but not as fun as the ones before it.

I think of the "Undead" books like delightful little bonbons. Not a whole meal, just - a nice little treat.

I know that some of the other reviewers have complained that the more recent installments are a little sketchy, or that the plot is not meaty enough. They're probably right.

On the other hand - if you ask me, the "Undead" series has been like that from the beginning &, really, has only gotten better. I think that Davidson's writing is smoother, more confident, more polished. I think that her characters continue to be witty and delightful, while at the same time distinctive and capable of growth and change.

I read "Undead" because I enjoy the ride, not because I'm biting my nails waiting to find out what happens at the end. And I like it that way.

In this latest volume in the saga of Betsy, Queen of the Vampires, everyone finds out Betsy has a half sister who is also the daughter of the devil, so that’s super. Also, Betsy and Eric work on their relationship, which was hot. Plus, Andrea and Daniel from “Dead Girls Don’t Dance” make a cameo and it was to see them again. Marc doesn’t factor as much in this one which makes me sad because I heart him. I want more meaty info on the mythology of these particular vampires and especially more background on Betsy’s sister, but those details do not seem forthcoming. Even if you’re not that interested in this series, it’s worth it for the image of a fiend learning to crochet. This review is nearly as rambly, inane and tangential as Betsy herself.

read full review at talksupe.blogspot.comwhat I really love about these books is Betsy's unfiltered mouth, her immaturity and vapidness. The woman is just so ridiculous at times that you can't help but like her. Well, at least I do. Just because she's thirty doesn't mean she has to be a constant mature adult, which is how this thirty-one year old feels. As for our hottie vamp, Eric Sinclair, he fits the mold of the possessive, cold and mysterious vampire that any paranormal reader is used to.

Undead and Unappreciated is the third book in the Undead series by MaryJanice Davidson featuring reluctant vampire queen Betsy Taylor. Betsy has now been a vampire for 6 months, and she still refuses to accept the fact that she’s the vampire’s queen. She now owns a nightclub that became hers after she killed Monique, along with all of her possessions. Of course, Monique tried unsuccessfully to kill her several times before that. The only problem is, the vampires hate her, and want her dead.Betsy ends up crashing an AA meeting that is actually filmed, and later finds out that Nick the cop’s friend was in attendance at the time. She’s there because she can’t stand the taste of blood, but is a lucky vampire in that she can go days without doing so.Betsy then gets the shock of a lifetime when it’s learned that her evil step mother Antonia, actually had another baby with her father and that she ended up giving it away because she wasn’t herself at the time. (She was actually possessed by Satan at the time.) Ant, as she is called, purposefully tried to break up Betsy’s parents’ marriage, which she eventually did. The fact that Betsy has a half-sister that she has never met, and the fact that Tina once again forgets to inform her that it’s in the Book of the Dead, which she has refused to read, riles her into action. “The Queens sister shalt be beloved of the Morning star, and shall take over the world.”After Betsy finally settles into reading the Book of the Dead, she soon becomes agitated and vamps out. She bites and drinks blood from Jessica, her best friend. She then tells Marc off, and asks him why he is living with Jessica and Betsy. She finds herself basically raping Eric Sinclair into having sex with her. Finally, she attacks Tina, and gets knocked out in the process. Naturally, the guilt is overwhelming and she spends more time having to apologize to everyone.Betsy is also dealing with George, a vampire, who is one of the Fiends she saved from Nostro. George keeps escaping from Betsy/Nostro’s mansion where the Fiends are being taken care of by Alice. George ends up staying at Betsy’s home, and there’s a story behind him that hasn’t actually been told yet.The usual then happens to Betsy. She is attacked by vampires in her bar who refuse to work for her unless she returns things to the way they were: IE biting, and killing humans. They, again, try to attack her and kill her, only to be saved by Eric and Laura with her flaming sword. Likes: 1. The fact that this story moved fast, and is an easy read.2. That we get to meet her half-sister Laura Goodman who is able to wield a fire/light sword like nobody’s business. Then there’s the fact that she knows that she’s Satan’s daughter, (who by the way is female!) and grew up in a household that was basically religious and doesn’t care for her mother’s prophecy that she will one day rule the world. Laura is actually one of the decent characters added to this series thus far.3. I like the fact that she finally, finally tells Eric Sinclair, her husband, king and consort, that she love him, at which point she talks him into marriage. Of course, all it takes is her reading the Book of the Dead4.The ending. It seems that Betsy is finally coming to accept her role as vampire queen, when she marries Andrea Mercer and David Harris. Also, the ability to actually see the sunlight again, I believe, woke her up to her true powers.Dislikes: 1. The fact that Betsy is a shallow character who thinks more about her shoes than her being a vampire queen. There are times I can relate to how Betsy is feeling when everyone seems to dump on her and attack her and want her dead. Then she goes all uber tramp on me with the clothes and shoe obsession, and that's the point I turn her off. Sorry, can't relate.2. The plot in this one seemed to be all over the place. Yes, we know that not all vampires accept Betsy as their Queen, and they prefer Eric as their leader. I'm not sure why people really believe that Eric is a sweet and gentle character. He basically forced himself onto Betsy and in the end, forced him to be her king and consort for a thousand years. Then again, if you are looking for a mindless escape from reality, then this is definitely a series for you.

Last night it was snuggle and read night with the boyfriend.. so I finally got a chance to pick this up. I must say very humorous and a quick read. I finished it before bed.. it's only 271 pages. The Main character Betsy is funny, sarcastic, lovable, emotional and enjoyable. Mary Janice really does a good job of wrapping you up in her world. I love the interactions between all the characters, the nicknames the happiness, anger, fear and sadness all the characters go through. There's a lot of internal dialogue in the book so you get to see a lot of what she is thinking which is fun cause she's a very funny character. I enjoyed the story a lot. It was very engaging, sarcastic, funny, thoughtful, interesting. The characters had life and brought you in. I really can't wait to read the rest of the series. I definitely give this a paw up :)Posted on my review blog. kittenreads.blogspot.com

Not really much plot here. Not very much sex either. It had a couple funny moments, and a couple of "nail-biting" ones, but nothing much actually "happens" during the story. I wish there had been more meat on the Book of the Dead thread, or on the Satan angle, but ... it was all just sorta quick and light and seems to have missed a great opportunity to thicken the plot. And the weird stuff that happened at Betsy's bar near the end of the book... what on earth was that about? The author adding on some action scenes out of the blue?

Book 3 …. Once again Queen Betsy has missteps and misunderstandings, but this time it leaves her feeling alone and disconnected from not only her people (the vampire community), but also her friends and her consort. Her usual fumbling, while still funny, was not as well received but her introduction to her sister went better than planned. Still the comic relief for any paranormal reader and even though we have a few important informational and emotional moments, once again I found the whole thing nothing more than a good time. I still plan on reading the more of the completely unreal and silly series - everyone needs a good laugh every once in a while. Next up is Undead and Unreturnable (might be another shoe reference?) but loved the new sister and the new situation with Erik Sinclair.

Queen Betsy and the gang are here for a third round - and what a round! This time, Betsy finds out that her bitchy stepmother is pregnant with Betsy's half-sibling - and not for the first time! Betsy sets out to find her half-sister who just happens to be the child of the Devil. No, really. Oh, and did I mention that Betsy finally admits she loves Sinclair? This series has definitely grown on me. Betsy is annoying me less. It's not because she's getting any smarter or any less vapid, but because I'm getting used to her, and growing to love her as a character. And Sinclair! Hoo boy, he just gets hotter with each book!I know this is a short review - I'm hurrying off to read book 4!

Undead and Unappreciated is book 3 in Mary Janice Davidson's hilarious Queen Betsy Series. You must be thinking that I'm on some kind of undead kick here - and you're RIGHT! After a slow start to the series, these books just keep getting better and better.Betsy Taylor will tell you, it ain't easy bein' Queen (especially when you're Queen of the vampires.) Her life is in crisis. Newly returned from Europe, her sexy sneaky consort King Eric Sinclair, is determined to win her over without telling her too much about the prophesies in the Book of the Dead; her father and step-mother Antonia (the Ant) are about to have a baby; and she's just learned that she has another half-sister floating around out there who, p.s., is the child of Satan - literally. Add to that impending business failures and the fact that she goes a bit evil for awhile after spending too much time reading the Book of the Dead - her life is straight out of a daytime soap opera! And it's fan-freakin-tastic.Undead and Unappreciated is chocked full of quirky characters, side-splitting scenes of utter hilarity, and drama, drama, drama! It's total guilty-pleasure reading and I'm lovin' every minute of it. Much like the previous two books, I devoured Undead and Unappreciated in one greedy gulp. It is a witty and entertaining read that has me reaching for the next book even as I type this line. I can't wait to see what happens next to Betsy and her band of feisty friends!

Betsy Taylor is still trying to adjust not only to being undead, but a Vampire Queen. It hasn't been easy; especially the not being able to eat meat and having to drink blood part. She also has to deal with employees of her nightclub Scratch and her attraction to her vampire consort Eric Sinclair. All of this is more than enough but she also has family matters to deal with - her stepmother (who hates Betsy) is pregnant and Betsy finds out that she has a half sister, who just happens to be the devil's daughter. Now Betsy has to find this half sister before she takes over the world. "Undead and Unappreciated" is a funny, light read - the kind of book that I enjoy while reading it and wonder why after finishing it. Betsy is a fun heroine, but can be annoying at times especially her never-ending obsession with pricey shoes. Betsy's best friend Jessica is absent for large chunks of the book, which is a shame because she's one of the best characters. Since this book is part of a series, there is little plot development and the plot lines that do emerge, like Betsy's sister (Laura Goodman - the name is one of the obvious jokes in the book) are not concluded by the end of the book. There are some good moments in the book including the introduction of Laura (who is more than she seems) and Betsy's decision to read "The Book of the Dead" (which actually makes Betsy a well-rounded character) but they are few and far between. A lot of the book feels like filler (especially Betsy attending an AA meeting) that doesn't go any place and I got tired of characters staring meaningfully at each other with no explanation. I could also do without the now seemingly obligatory fight at Scratch. "Undead and Unappreciated" is a very light, humorous, fun to read paranormal romance - just don't expect a lot of plot.

Betsy is back as Queen of the Vampires. She has acquired a club called Scratch but as she won't let the vampire staff bring their "sheep" or feed off the customers (or kill them!) the club is failing and looks like it will go bust. At the moment it's her only source of income so she begins to put her energies into rebuilding the clientelle. Her step mother, the Ant, is pregnant and when her father visits to make sure Betsy doesn't attend the baby shower he accidentally lets slip that the Ant had previsouly given a baby up at birth and Betsy has a half sister. The Book of the Dead has a prophecy about her as well, she is the daughter of the Devil and is due to bring about the end of the world. Betsy myst find her and make sure she doesn't...Betsy is sick of hearing about prophecys in an "oh by the way" fashion so she decides to read the Book of the Dead for herself. The problem is that if you read it for too long, you go mad. She reads for too long as predicted and becomes evil Betsy. She attacks her friends and has sex with Sinclair and has a lot of relationships to mend. She also manages to gain a new vampire superpower so it's not all bad.Another fun installment. These are a great light read, sex and the city meets vampires. I really like Betsy and her sense of humor. Jessica is a good character too and I am looking forward to spending more time getting to know her half sister Laura.

I found this third “Undead” book to be rather anti-climatic… or maybe non-climatic would be a better word. When I got to the end, all I could think was “That’s it? Am I missing pages? Were chapters left out of my ebook?” Not a lot happens here. Basically, Betsy finds out she has a half-sister who’s really the daughter of Satan, goes a little crazy after reading the Book of the Dead for too long and has to apologize to everyone, has one confrontation where she finds out some important facts about her new half-sister, and finally admits that she loves Sinclair. And… that’s it. Maybe we find out more about this prophecy with her sister in the next book? All I know is that this one was pretty lacking.

Back to a much stronger story. Betsy has a half-sister. Her half-sister is in the Book of the Dead... which can't be good news.Betsy does some reading, which drives her temporarily insane, but there are some repercussions which aren't necessarily strongly handled, but are spelt out and are plausible.Betsy's half-sister is the daughter of Satan, but adopted by a priest, and comes over as the all-American bible-goer. But when she gets angry...There is also a wedding and a proposal as Betsy settles into life more fully and finally admits how she feels about Eric.

I fell in love with this series right from the very first book. I find it very hard to put these books down because I just have to know what is going to happen next! Quick paced and wonderfully funny! Now it's been awhile since I read the last book, but I didn't find it difficult at all to continue and jump right back into the story. A few funny things happen to Betsy as the story progresses. She is tired of Eric holding things back from her so she takes it upon herself to read the Book of the Dead on her own. Well, she doesn't listen to anyone so what happens? The book makes her evil for a short period of time. In that time, she does some things that she later regrets! But she does learn more about her half-sister and actually meets her. She thinks that she's fabuous. Now when she starts having some problems with her employees down at Scratch, she realizes the true powers that her sister holds!Betsy Taylor is so stubborn that it takes almost the entire book for her to realize that she is in love with Eric. Actually right after the incident with the Book of the Dead and when it seems that Eric is more into her sister. So then we see a more sensitive side of Betsy towards Eric.MaryJanice Davidson is a wonderful writer. She keeps the action flowing and keeps the comedy coming. This book had plenty of plot twists, so I just had to keep reading so I knew what was going to happen!

Same old, same old as far as some things went. Betsy is still shoe obsessed, can't seem to keep out of trouble and has a love/hate relationship with Sinclair. But what else would you expect from a Queen Betsy novel and would you want it any other way?Tired of being mislead and having secrets kept from her Betsy decides to spend some time with the Book of the Dead, with disastrous results. Throw in a half sister she never knew existed, a pregnant step-monster and an angry band of old regime vampires and you've got yourself a heap of trouble. As usual, Betsy and her brethren prevail, love blossoms, relationships deepen, nasty vamps die and new info comes to light. A fun, fast romp in a great series.

I am enjoying this series, not loving it but it is enjoyable, there are times I laugh out loud but the Vampire queen can be a bit of an over kill at times with the same constant wise cracks mostly thats all that bothers me, people don't go around talking as she does, well at least no one I know. But then again it is a fun read and I am glad I decided to read it. The dark hunter books which I love this is just sooo the opposite of them. some good laughs and easy read too

Just how much more dysfunctional can one’s family life get when you become a vampire, let alone queen of them all? Undead and Unappreciated, for the most part, ascertains just that! Here is another hilarious chapter pertaining to Betsy Taylor’s experiences of all things vampiric – including her royal duties and disasters. After a quiet six weeks devoid of Eric and Tina in her life, everything becomes topsy-turvy on their return, when she receives an unexpected visit from her father. Finding that she has a half-sibling, who is the daughter of the Devil and also foretold in the Book of the Dead, in her anger Betsy disregards better counsel and reads this book for a prolonged session. The resultant chaos is neither unexpected nor unanticipated, and allows for, perhaps, predictable concerns and further clarification of Betsy's situation in this new life. This instalment becomes a little darker as Betsy, through her own ignorance and idiocy, manages to estrange almost all those she holds dear. Nevertheless she succeeds in locating her sister, annoying her step-mother and clarifying her emotions across the various relationships implicit in her extended family.Once more this is an irreverent romp through life today – there are allegories to the devil and evil step-mothers that are wickedly brilliant; with witty, though at times poignant, social commentary about family influence on personal development nowadays. And again Betsy reveals her inner propriety and inherent humanity – full of natural jealousy, immediate sibling rivalry along with a serious consideration to sell her soul for a pair of custom-made Roger Vivier comma heels! These books succeed because, as (I suspect) with the author, the main character never takes herself too seriously and never loses her identity – with basic faults outweighed by overall fundamental integrity – and thus delivers a character who is funny, flawed and very endearing. Again filled with laugh-out-loud moments I predict many more in the following instalments of Betsy Taylor’s long, long existence.

I wonder if I've just got the wrong sense of humour for these books. This is the fourth of this series I've read, and whilst I find them mildly entertaining, I can't understand why people find them so hysterically funny. The plot follows very similar lines to the other books in the series. Betsy with the Book of the Dead and her developing relationships with Sinclair and Laura.Pretty bland stuff, although this book did raise a couple of smiles.
