- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5While this wasn't my favorite Eddie Drood/Shaman Bond adventure, Green never fails to entertain and make me laugh with outrageous villains and bizarre situations.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5From the Book Cover:
My name is Drood, Eddie Drood, aka Shaman Bond. For generations my family has protected you ordinary mortals against things that lurk in the darkness, just out of sight, but not at all out of mind.
Unfortunately, I’ve had a falling-out with my near and dear (some of whom were trying to kill me), so my true love and powerful witch, Molly Metcalf, and I are now in the employ of the Department of the Uncanny. We’ve been given an Extremely Important Assignment: Attend Casino Infernale, an annual event held by the Shadow Bank, financiers of all global supernatural crime. Our mission: Rig the game and bring down the Shadow Bank. But at Casino Infernale, the stakes are high indeed—winner takes all, and losers give up their souls.
My Thoughts:
The Drood family is back. Eddie Drood has now joined the Department of the Uncanny along with his girlfriend, Molly Metcalf, the Wild Witch of the Woods. The Drood family exits to be the go between humanity and all the hidden horrors that inhabit this world with us. As Eddie says, "We fight the monsters so that you don't have to know they really exits. Eddie and Molly find themselves on Trannell Island...one of the eight hundred small islands off the far north coast of Scotland and needless to say...they are not alone.
Simon Green has created quiet a colorful cast of strange and creepy characters. Nothing you would care to meet face to face or any other way for that matter. With magic involved nothing is ever simple so the trouble that they find, or in some cases, finds them...is almost more than they bargained for.
The story is very fast passed and believe me you will NOT be bored. Even though the books can be enjoyed no matter what order you read them in...this is one series that is more enjoyable if read in order. it's fun to recognize a reference or a character.. usually not human...from another book from the past. 4 stars for a wonderful time.
