About this audiobook

Thanks to its unique combination of human and vampire residents, Morganville, Texas, is a small college town with big-time problems. When student Claire Danvers gets the chance to experience life on the outside, she takes it. But Morganville isn't the only town with vampire trouble.

Claire never thought she'd leave Morganville, but when she gets accepted into the graduate program at MIT, she can't pass up the opportunity. Saying good-bye to her friends is bittersweet, especially since things are still raw and unsettled between Claire and her boyfriend, Shane.

Her new life at MIT is scary and exciting, but Morganville is never really far from Claire's mind. Enrolled in a special advanced study program with Professor Irene Anderson, a former Morganville native, Claire is able to work on her machine, which is designed to cancel the mental abilities of vampires.

But when she begins testing her machine on live subjects, things quickly spiral out of control, and Claire starts to wonder whether leaving Morganville was the last mistake she'll ever make . . .

Just received in the mail. Can't wait to start but oh so sad when I found out that the series will end with book #15.

Wow! Another in a series of 14 books that you can't put down and then when your at the end and least expect it a total twist is thrown at you! The 15th book is suppose to be the final book but how after the ending I just rad is she going to be able to wrap this incredible tale up in one book. The whole story was blown up I the last sentence of this novel. I literally screamed!!! No way, read it and see !!! It amazes me that after 14 books each one keeps you enthralled and dedicated to reading this series. I've read a lot of series and some just lose the story not Morganville Vampires. Rachel Caine continues to bring fresh , exciting story lines to her books when you think she has thought of everything and there's no where to go, but there always is and she does not disappoint. Except in that the next book, #15 is reported to be the final book in this series, I will be so sad!

It was great to see the Morganville folks in a different setting and interacting with different people. It was a way to see familiar characters in a different light.

But, naturally, Morganville is never far, and Clare finds out that she hasn't escaped it at all, and that she might have gotten herself into something even worse.

Great fun with the Morganville gang when they Claire leaves home and heads for Boston. Where Claire goes trouble follows. She is finally at MIT her dream realized. Sometimes our dreams turn out to be nightmares. Everything is not what ti seems which it the way of the world. The hidden dangers strike, and some of them will not come out okay. It's all Claire fault, she may lose it all. Her research, her love and maybe her friends lives.
It was fun, edge of my seat squirming action and several ahhhh, moments. The finish was one big cluster of Omg, cliffhanger.

Review courtesy of Dark Faerie TalesQuick & Dirty: Dark, funny, action-packed drama. Be prepared for a seriously crazy cliffhanger.Opening Sentence: The billboard at the border of Morganville hadn’t changed since Claire had first driven past it on the way into town at the tender age of sixteen. The Review:Fall of Night is the penultimate novel in the Morganville Vampire series. This is the first novel in this series that I have read but I have read Rachel Caine’s Weather Warden Series which I thoroughly enjoyed. As someone who has never read this series before I was never lost in what was happening in the story, I do wish that I had a better understanding of the overall story. One day I will go back and read the rest of this series from the beginning. The first half of the story was a little slow, setting up what Claire in doing in Boston, but when all Hell breaks loose the story is non-stop action until the ending. Fall of Night could have been a standalone story up until the crazy cliffhanger ending! This story starts with Claire leaving Morganville. She wants to get away and see if she can make it in the real world without all the vampire madness. She also wants to step away from her boyfriend Shane. She wants to know if what she feels for him is real and also to kind of torment him for some bad decisions he made which included not trusting her. Claire is going to MIT in Boston for an independent study program. She wants to use her smarts to create something good.Shane just can’t let Claire go without backup so he secretly follows her up to Boston. For someone who doesn’t want Claire to know he is there, they seem to make the same friends in the big town of Boston. As many times as he wants to jump in and let Claire know he is around, he understands that Claire wants her space, to be her own person. The reason Claire is in Boston is to perfect a machine that she has been working on. A machine that in my eyes could only be used for bad. I’m not quite sure how Claire never saw it that way. As soon as she described it, I was like “Oh great, this thing is nothing but bad.” Enter the Daylighters, an organization that wants to destroy all things vampire. You can kind of predict that everything goes downhill from here on out. Some major players and key characters added to the story are Professor Irene Anderson, Jesse and Pete. I absolutely loved Jesse. A vampire who seemed to be in control of her powers and was great in all situations. Her interaction with Myrnin was cute and entertaining. It had me laughing.I really enjoyed reading a Rachel Caine book again. I could tell it was her style as soon as I started getting into the story. I felt like I was actually in Boston with Claire and Shane. The descriptions and dialogue are engrossing. I would definitely check out the rest of this series.I will say since this is the first time I am seeing this world, I don’t know for a fact how true the characters are to themselves and how they have been since the beginning. Claire was tough where she needed to be (confronting a stalker and a nasty professor caused some really funny scenes) but I did think she was naïve. She couldn’t possibly think her weapon would only be used for good. Shane was an idiot for following but thankfully she ended up needing his help or else I don’t think that would have been good for their relationship. The book did alternate between Claire and Shane’s POVs.Overall, Fall of Night is dark, funny, action-packed and filled with some serious drama. My jaw dropped during that crazy cliffhanger. So be prepared to have the last book on hand, Daylighters. I’m trying to avoid spoilers but I really want to know how this series ends but I would like to read it from the beginning first.Notable Scene:She picked up the hot pie and was walking back with it when she spotted the creepy Professor Davis sitting at an outdoor café, enjoying a coffee with a girl young enough—again—to be his daughter. She looked captivated, too. Starry-eyed and naïve, and willing to believe that Professor Davis was that missing daddy figure in her life that would solve all her problems.Claire couldn’t resist. She changed course.Dr. Davis and his new conquest were so into each other—or at least, she was breathlessly into him, and he was enjoying it — that it took at least a full minute for either of them to notice Claire when she paused at their table. Dr. Davis even pushed his coffee cup toward her, as if she were the waiter, before looking up in annoyance, then confusion, and then – gratifyingly –worry. He straightened up in his chair, and she smiled at him. What would Eve do?It was easy enough to channel her best friend’s talent for snarky destruction.“You’re not returning my calls, Patrick,” Claire said, in her best injured, pouting voice. “I thought you were going to come by to talk about our problems.”“Claire,” he said, which was an obvious and rookie mistake; it meant he knew who she was, and she saw the chagrin settle over his face as he realized it. He turned toward the girl he was with, no doubt to protest his innocence.Claire didn’t give him the chance. “I ran into your wife at the mall and she says she is not going to give you a divorce, so what am I supposed to do about the babies? Just you wait. I’m going to make sure you step up and be a good father to our twins! You promised!”She didn’t wait to see the results of the bomb she’d thrown; she just held her head high and walked on with the pizza and didn’t look back. She didn’t have to. The scrape of the girl’s wrought-iron chair legs on pavement, and Patrick’s injured, wounded protests were as good as any picture. It might not matter, and probably wouldn’t; she’d torpedoed one date, but he’d have another one tomorrow, or the next day.FTC Advisory: New American Library/Penguin provided me with a copy of Fall of Night. No goody bags, sponsorships, “material connections,” or bribes were exchanged for my review.

I wanted to read this because I am addicted to Morganville, and I am flying towards the end of the series and can't stop. This book was hard for me because Claire is leaving behind all of the characters that I have come to adore or at least know what to expect from. Her old friend Elizabeth is going to be her new room mate and Elizabeth has changed from when Claire knew her and even though she is bubbly and shows moments of being real, most of the time she annoyed me. It was hard for Claire to be away from Shane and I missed their easy and hot way they are together, but I definitely respect that his lack of trust in her with Michael last book certainly can't get off with a simple apology. Her motives for going are good as well. She wants to establish herself as an independent young woman and fulfill her dream of MIT. She plans to go back to Morganville but she wants life experience outside of town as well. The action was great as usual, and kept me flipping the pages and never wanting to stop. There were plot twists that really made me gasp or just sit slack jawed for a few minutes. Though somehow, everything got back to the semblance of normal that Claire has. The ending was good, and it is what the books have been building up to. With the next being the last book, of course the events that went down were big and the culmination of the themes of the series. I can't wait to have a spot to keep reading. Bottom Line: Great book with some new and shocking developments.

    Book fourteen.

    The end is nigh.

I think this is only the second book to take place outside of Morganville? And the first where Claire exercises any level of separation from her Glass House family. I'm happy for Claire, getting away from Shane for a bit to figure herself out and what she really wants. She makes it clear that she very much still loves him, but needs to be her own person, and that is as admirable as it get's in my book.

I won't lie, I didn't like any of the characters we met in Boston. Liz is annoying, Dr Anderson was dodgy as hell and everyone just radiated pure sleaze. Pete and Jesse were cool though, that's it.

I kinda picked up in Bitter Blood that VLAD would cause trouble later on, but I wonder who Myrnin told about it? Why else get Claire to Boston? I shouldn't think too hard about it, probably.

The shifting perspectives added a lot of colour to this book and finally felt appropriate. It was only Claire and Shane this time around which I appreciated since Caine is clearly only utilising other perspectives when she deems it necessary, not just for the hell of it.

The climax felt all over the place in this one. Although, they usually are in Morganville. This is probably just my own shortcoming but I actually find it quite difficult to keep up with the fight scenes and Claire's latest ninja escape from some armed and dangerous dude twice her size. It's Claire though, I believe it when she survives, tough cookie that she is.

Minor gripe; She sure went back on her desire to separate herself from Shane quite quickly, huh? And he told her in Bitter Blood he was going to Boston, she freakin' bargained for his freedom. Why was she surprised?!

Although at this point the mythology is getting out of hand, (Bitter Blood was a mess in that regard), I'm still happy to hang in there to get that happy ending I know Caine won't deprive me of.

As long as this series is, I'll miss it like hell.

Claire Danvers was accepted to the graduate program at MIT. She was given permission to leave Morganville. Claire is reluctant to leave her friends but wanting to pursue her dream of attending the school of her choice. She is enrolled in an advanced study program, under the instruction of former Morganville resident, Professor Irene Anderson.Things were left unsettled in Morganville between Claire and her boyfriend, Shane. Unbeknownst to Claire, Shane follows her to Boston to keep an eye on her and be ready, in case she needs him. Good thing he did because who would have ever guessed vampires do not just exist in Morganville. The question is, are the vampires really the bad guys?Rachel Caine does a fabulous job of keeping this series refreshing and new; an incredible act for the fourteen book in a series. Never did I feel like I was reading the same story over again. Fall Of Night is an original thrilling adventure. Not only that, it leaves you yearning to read the last book in the series, Daylighters. ARC provided publisher via manicreaders.com in exchange for an honest review.

I haven't enjoyed this series as much as I probably should have. After all, it is fully of vampires, and those are sort of my thing. Between the dragging feeling that was present in almost every book, the times when chapters would be 40-50 pages long (for a 300-400 page book), and the switching perspectives in almost every other chapter (and going from 3rd person to 1st person in those chapters) in the last few books, I have been feeling more and more disenchanted. This book definitely would not make my list of awesome books. It isn't even one of the better ones in the series. For one thing, part of what made me keep coming back to these books were the characters Eve, Amelie, and Myrnin. Well, in this book, Eve and Myrnin barely have any part at all, while Amelie has none. Eve and Myrnin always provided some of the most humorous comments in the other books, while Amelie would provide some of the best insight; without these three, the books aren't as funny and they don't seem as philosophical/insightful. It's amazing how not having them makes the story so very flat.Another thing I disliked was the continuation of the bad guy being the person you should least expect. For 14 books, that has been the case, whether it was Oliver, a puddle/the rain/Magnus, Naomi, or mad scientists. With every book, I thought the way villains were written would change. With every book, it became more and more obvious that it wouldn't change. It would have been okay if it had been an occasional thing, but 14 books that are built on the suspense of figuring out who the big bad is made this formula a really bad idea. Everything that happened in the story made it so obvious that this story was going to be like the other 13.It is good that this is only a 15 book series. I think that, at least when it comes to the Morganville series, Caine has lost her spark.

I have loved this series since book one! In FALL OF NIGHT, Claire finally gets the opportunity to leave Morganville and pursue her dreams at MIT. Unfortunately, super-scary trouble follows her wherever she goes and Claire finds herself faced with both human and vampire predators. I was happy that all the characters we love so much were still a part of the story - and we got to meet some great new ones. This book was as action-packed as ever and we also get some hot romance. Something interesting is happening with Shane and we are left with a huge cliffhanger and an ending I didn't see coming. And Claire also discovers that the grass isn't always greener on the other side.

Taking a stroll down Morganville is no problem. Leaving Morganville is. I had a super fun time reading this book. I went in eyes wide open and experience everything Claire did, including watching her back every 5 seconds...Plot: Since the beginning of this series no one has work harder then Claire. She proved herself in every way possible. So when Claire gets a chance to leave Morganville, I'm on board with her. I had hoped that things would go smoothly but like Morganville nothing ever is. Claire finds herself once again, fighting for her life. This plot drew me in and kept me there. The buildup to Claire leaving (made me cry), fights/love with Shane (made me cry) and angry, not to mention Claire is plain freaking awesome!Love: Shane do I have to slap you upside the head? C'mon guy! Get yourself together. Look, I know you made a mistake in the last book and well whats done is done. You can't take it back but you can fight for her. Stop being a stupid guy and FIGHT FOR HER! Claire, you better make him work for it.Morganville: The ending is as much as a surprise to the reader as well as the characters. I thought once they cross the border to Morganville all will be the same in the Glass house. But no, nothing is ever easy in Morganville. Which brings me to my next point, it's almost over....NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!Fall Of Night is another excellent addition to the Morganville series. The momentum from Morganville is never lost even though Claire leaves for a while. A finely executed book leaving me hanging for more, Fall Of Night rocks!

Our Review, by LITERAL ADDICTION's Pack Alpha - Michelle L. Olson:All I could say when I finished this book was "Holy mother...."I wasn't sure what to expect with all of the changes from the last couple books, the breakup of our known posse and the tension running rampant, but if it's even possible for me to love one of these books even more than I already have been, Fall of Night did the trick!I started the book at 1am on release day because I simply couldn't wait, and by the next afternoon I was finished. I couldn't put it down! I love the new characters, the action was even more intense than usual (and that's saying A LOT!), and the surprises... I don't even know where to begin; I'm actually a bit speechless right now. Let me just say that I don't think I've said "OMG!" so many times over the course of one book ever. Fall of Night was absolutely, amazingly, stunningly awesome! An easy 5 Skull read, and though I didn't think it was possible, this series (even after 14 books) just keeps getting better!

Review courtesy of All Things Urban FantasyWhy isn’t this series a TV show yet? The CW? ABC Family? The Morganville Vampires is perfect for primetime. The cast of characters has expanded over the series without loosing focus on the core relationships, the setting of a vampire run college town is the perfect blend of chills and intrigue, and the storylines that Rachel Caine continues to spin are even hotter at book fourteen then they were at book one!In FALL OF NIGHT, the series takes it’s biggest shift ever by moving outside the borders of Morganville. Claire is such a smart girl that I loved seeing her navigate the tricky waters of college life on her own at MIT including flirty guys, creepy professors, OCD roomates, and her mixed up feelings about Shane and Morganville. Not that it’s possible to ever truly leave Morganville behind.Claire and Shane trade off telling the story and I really appreciated the paired down POV switches compared to previous books. Plus Shane makes great strides towards manning up. This is the most I’ve liked him in along time. Myrnin also reveals some new sides to his personality, one that is beyond terrifying and one that is pitifully vulnerable. I’m all the more drawn to him for the balance between the two.FALL OF NIGHT is so different from anything the previous books have shown us, but it’s no less exciting for the new locale and new faces. Plus, Caine sets in motion a HUGE twist involving Shane that is going to have massive fallout for the next book (potentially the final book in The Morganville Vampires series). Not to mention a cliffhanger bombshell that may finally bump the vampires from the top of the food chain.
