- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Book # 11 in the Miss Julia series, featuring a Southern lady of a certain age, who is prone to jumping to conclusions but always takes action to help those in need. This time out she’s juggling the demands of a “Christian psychologist” who’s been hired by her pastor to hold marriage enrichment sessions, and a false accusation of theft against her friend Etta Mae.Miss Julia may be running off on all sorts of tangents and gets herself into a pickle more than once, but she has some capable assistance (sometimes unwittingly) from Sam, Lillian and young Lloyd. Even Mr Pickens, Emma Sue Ledbetter and Hazel Marie manage to contribute to the final solution. I love the way these characters are written. Miss Julia is just a hoot, and she’s most entertaining when she’s in a dither about something. Her read on things may be completely wrong, but she always manages to arrive at the right conclusion, or at least to help the authorities find the real culprit. Visiting with Miss Julia and her friends is a pure joy.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Here's the latest in the long run of Miss Julia books. Hazel Marie has finally snagged Mr. Pickens for a husband, based on the fact that she is expecting twins that belong to him. They are out of the way on their honeymoon for most of the book after marrying in a quickie civil ceremony. Miss Julia manages to explain away the embarrassing details of the wedding with her usual aplomb. A bigger problem is how to deal with her own husband's desire to attend a marriage enrichment class being taught by someone with whom Miss Julia had a close encounter years ago. A faked illness by Miss Julia leads to other events and the hiring of a private duty nurse, the familiar Etta Mae Wiggins. She has lost her job after being accused of attacking a patient and stealing a valuable bracelet. Of course, Miss Julia will need to straighten out that mess, too. As usual, Miss Julia comes through. Read it and laugh!

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Miss Julia is juggling several things at once in this one. Hazel Marie and JD are on their honeymoon, Sam is pushing her to attend some religious marriage counseling, and an old acquaintance is back in town after burying her sixth husband. Francie is stirring up trouble by pointing fingers at Etta Mae Wiggins, saying she attacked her and stole a gold bracelet. Of course, Julie is worried about Etta Mae and helping her clear her names, as well as worrying that Sam is missing something in their marriage.
It was a lot of fun to read this one. I didn't figure out "who dunnit", at least not who attacked Francie and stole her bracelet.
I'm all caught up on this series now, so have to wait for the next one to come out. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5latest book in the Miss Julia series. Characters are funny. Descriptions of church politics are a hoot!
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Hazel Marie and J. D. Pickens are getting married, much to Miss Julia's relief. Since Hazel Marie is pregnant with twins, time is of the essence. While Miss Julia is trying to come up with a way to explain Hazel Marie's situation to everyone in Abbotsville, she gets a call from Etta Mae Wiggins. Etta Mae has been accused of assaulting, and stealing from, one of her home health care clients. At the same time, Miss Julia's husband, Sam, has told the pastor that they will help with a marriage counseling class at their church, which makes Miss Julia wonder if Sam is unhappy in their marriage.Miss Julia Renews Her Vows by Ann B. Ross is the eleventh book in the delightful Miss Julia series. Miss Julia is quite a character and I just love her! She is the epitome of the old-fashioned prim and proper Southern woman. She tries to present a tough facade, but everyone knows that, deep down inside, she's really a softie.Miss Julia has a great life - plenty of money, lots of friends and a husband who adores her, but like all the rest of us, she has self doubts. In this book, she has doubts about her marriage that cause her to come to all kinds of crazy conclusions which create misunderstandings that just made me nod my head and chuckle. If Miss Julia is nothing else, she's a faithful friend who's always ready to help out when someone is in trouble. When she discovers Etta Mae's being questioned by the police, she's determined to get to the bottom of things and solve the mystery. The Miss Julia books are just plain fun and they're a great break between heavier books! Miss Julia Renews Her Vows is a solid addition to the series and I really enjoyed it. It's not necessary to read the series in order, but I think it's better if you do, so you can follow the relationships of the characters. If you've enjoyed Miss Julia in the past, you won't want to miss this book!
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Miss Julia is one fictional character for whom I'll drop everything to read her latest adventures. Fans know about Miss Julia's back story, so I won't bother retelling it. In Miss Julia Renews Her Vows, our heroine has her hands full. She's getting Hazel Marie and J.D. Pickens married off just in time for their twins to arrive. She helps her friend Etta Mae Wiggins get out from under the suspicion that she caused injury to and stole from a woman she's been providing home-care services. And a bad penny -- once known as Francie Pitts -- returns to town to find husband #5. Or is is #6?But it's a marriage enrichment program at her church that has Miss Julia most worried. It seems she has "history" with the presenter, an unscrupulous charlatan who took advantage of a vulnerable Miss Julia years earlier. Why is Miss Julia's husband Sam so eager to attend the program? Could it be that he's feeling their marriage is getting stale and that they need to "stoke the embers?" Ann B. Ross is an author who always delivers what her fans expect. And even though the core of Miss Julia's personality hasn't changed much over the course of this series, in every book she becomes stronger, more confident and much more lovable. This book is no exception. Maybe it's Miss Julia's obvious vulnerability when it comes to her romantic life that makes her so endearing. Steel Magnolia though she may be, more and more she shows her soft side. I love this series!!!5/9/2010
