I love Kit's stories. She was my role model as a kid. I don't have a problem with the story, it's the audiobook I take issue with. I feel as if this was meant for children who struggle with their reading speed to listen to as they read with the book. The actress reads incredibly slow and gives unnatural emphasis on unusual words. I think some of this was her personal choice and some of it the director's choice. Regardless, it doesn't give for a good listening experience if you're not a child listening alongside the book. I sped the track up, but it fluctuates speeds too much. It's too slow at some points and too fast at others. I recommend reading it at 1.2× speed if you're listening independently or reading along and can read faster than she can talk. I don't know if the other American Girl audiobooks do this, though. I'll find out soon.

I was too "old" when American Girl 1st came out. BUT, as an adult I wanted to know what all the hype was. Little did I know that I'd fall in love with the whole American Girl idea! Kit was by far my favorite and I loved reading about the 1930's. A GREAT way to get your little girl learning about history. These books will always be in my classroom no matter what grade I teach!
