About this audiobook

Still tormented by his recent captivity, Alpha Pack commander Nick Westfall isn't sure he's fit to lead-especially when he meets the one woman he can't claim without reliving the torture he endured at the hands of a rogue vampire.

Vampire princess Calla Shaw has seen her own share of heartbreak, but she can tell that the wild attraction she and Nick feel for each other could turn into something significant-if only he'd let it. But Calla isn't about to give up on her mate without a fight.

Time is running out, not only for Nick to claim his mate but for Calla and her coven. A vampire war is on the horizon, one the Alpha Pack can't hope to win if their leader can't pull himself back from the abyss.Contains mature themes.

Listened for Review (Tantor)Overall Rating: 4.25Story Rating: 4.00Character Rating: 4.50Audio Rating: 4.00 (not part of the overall rating)First Thought when Finished: Huge fan of Nick and Calla as a couple in Wolf's Fall.Quick thoughts: Nick and Calla were not a couple I "saw" together. His Vamp issues made me unsure how it was going to work. However, the romance and understanding between the couple worked out splendidly! I admit this was probably the most emotional romance in the series for me and might even be my favorite. The story surround Nick and Calla was also strong. Lots of action! Lots of intrigue! Lots of wolves, vampires, and yes those damn hunters. I really dig this series. It just seems to fit what I look for in a PNR Military type of romance. I can't wait till the next one.Audio Thoughts: Narrated By Marguerite Gavin / Length: 7 hrs and 12 mins Marguerite is one my favorite narrators. I wasn't sure how I would like her taking over the series from another one of my favorites: Kirsten Potter. She has a strong sense of story though and that shows in her performance. She did a great job! I did miss some of the voices I have to come to love but Marguerite pulled them off! As long as she (or Kirsten) are doing this series, I will be listening to them! I am glad I took the chance!Part of my Read It, Rate It, File It, DONE! Reviews

Review courtesy of Dark Faerie TalesQuick & Dirty: While I felt the premise was solid, this story ultimately fell short for me due to lack of connection to the characters.Opening Sentence: Alpha Pack commander Nick Westfall strode from his office and down the main corridor of the compound, his heavy black boots muffled on the carpet. The Review:Nick Westfall is having a difficult time, to say the least. He can’t stop reliving his capture and torture at the hands of a vampire. Every night, he dreams about it, waking in a cold sweat. The memory haunts his waking hours too. He’s even contemplated taking his own life, so he won’t have to deal with the pain and suffering anymore. Calla is a vampire princesss, and she has known there is something special about Nick since the moment she met him. As they begin to spend more time together, it becomes obvious to each of them that they are mates, but that presents a bit of a problem. For a vampire, biting is a necessary part of the mating process, and the thought of even Calla biting him leaves Nick cold and fearful. He’s not sure he can let go of his past in order to have a future with Calla. Unbeknownst to either Nick or Calla, there is someone else hiding in the shadows, determined to make sure they don’t have a future at all. Will they be able to survive so they can find out if they can make this mating thing work?I was a little worried prior to starting this book because I hadn’t read the previous 5 books. I knew I didn’t have time to read those prior to starting this one though, so I hopped right in. On the bright side, I was able to jump into the story fairly easily and didn’t have a problem getting myself caught up with what had gone on previously. On the not so good side, I never felt fully immersed in the story, and was rather glad when it was over.A big part of the problem for me is the whole idea of mates. I often have an issue with stories where the couple is fated to be together because in many cases, the romance moves too quickly and all the sexual and romantic tension that I love so much in romance stories is completely lacking. It takes no time at all for Calla and Nick to have their first big love scene, and I just wasn’t feeling it. I hadn’t connected with either character at that point, and it just felt too fast. Same goes with the big “I love you” moment. It just didn’t feel genuine to me.I also had a bit of an issue with how weak vampires seem to be in this book. I’m used to near-indestructible creatures, but here, vampires are basically humans who survive on blood. It seems to be very easy to kill them, and it was a little disappointing to me, especially when it comes to Calla. I like my heroines strong and able to handle themselves in a fight. Calla in general seems very weak and needs someone to come rescue her, except for one scene where she proves herself capable with a gun (that scene was another issue, as Calla says she’s “not bad” and then proceeds to make every shot she attempts). All in all, while the book was fast paced, it just didn’t work for me. I didn’t feel connected to any of the characters and just found myself bored most of the time. By the time I turned the last page, I was just glad it was over, and that’s never a good thing.Notable Scene:“They had armor-piercing bullets. You’re shot through. Stay still.”What? Raising his head a bit, he looked down at himself. His tan body armor was rapidly becoming soaked, turning a dark rust with his blood.“Oh, fuck.”His head swam and he dropped it back to the floor, staring at the roof. The motion of the Huey was making him sick. The craft executed a sharp turn and he knew Aric was taking him home as fast as the copter would fly.“The coven,” he rasped.“The others stayed behind to wrap up,” Jax said from somewhere near his head. “Stop worrying and save your strength.”His chest burned like the fires of hell. It was as though someone had pried open his sternum with their bare hands and then poured acid into the bloody cavity for good measure. He couldn’t breathe. This wasn’t right. He’d suffered gunshot wounds before – hell, all sorts of injuries – and he’d never experienced anything like this.He sucked in a shallow breath. “Silver?”“Maybe. You’re not healing like you should.”Hammer laid a meaty palm on his shoulder. “We’re close to the compound. Hang on, buddy.”That look on his friend’s face, in his eyes. Nick knew in that moment he was in real trouble. This was a mortal injury, even for a born wolf. And Zander was still restricted from performing a healing of this magnitude.“Calla,” he managed.“Tarron’s sister? What about her?”“Mate.”Hammer frowned. “I don’t understand.”“Calla’s mine,” he wheezed. “She’ll come.”“Shit! Got it.” Hammer squeezed his shoulder. “We’ll get her there.”“I don’t have her number, but I’m calling Tarron now,” Jax said.Vaguely, Nick heard Jax shouting into his cell phone. He wondered what the vampire would make of his sister being summoned to save a wolf. And not just any wolf – her mate. Then he decided he didn’t give two shits.Calla was coming, and that was all that mattered. Could be he wasn’t ready to give up, after all. The copter started its descent just as his lungs gave up the ghost. Thrashing, he fought to take in air that would no longer come. His vision darkened, and regret consumed him.Not yet. Can’t give up.Then he knew nothing more.FTC Advisory: Signet/Penguin provided me with a copy of Wolf’s Fall. Review courtesy of All Things Urban FantasyWOLF'S FALL presented a protagonist with PTSD due to a torture incident with a vampire which was a pretty interesting problem to load onto a character. While I don't know to much about what PTSD is like I thought it portrayed the struggles of someone who has gone through a heavy trauma very well. He's not completely fixed by the end through magically finding 'the one' which I though was very respectful and posed an unique problem when Nick finds himself attracted to Calla, a vampire which brings on the torture flashbacks and anxiety for Nick. His relationship with Calla; while that of instant attraction actually starts off as a nice partnership which quickly becomes a romance. It was kind of nice to have the couple not have any real animosity towards eachother especially since I've been reading a lot of those types of romances lately. There's no hate-to-love here, just them coping with their own internal issues and eventually coming together in the end once they learn to accept their loses. As a backdrop to Nick and Calla's relationship development is the characters' race to prevent a vampire war. The worldbuilding and the intriguing politics are pretty fascinating. While WOLF'S FALL can be read as a standalone I'd reccommend reading some of the previous books to get a better grasp on who is who and what is happening especially since the events that happen in this book are a direct result of what happened in the previous COLE'S REDEMPTION.
