About this audiobook
Supervisor Wiggins at Heaven's Department of Good Intentions dispatches Bailey Ruth to her old hometown of Adelaide, Oklahoma, to help a single mother and struggling writer. Deidre Davenport is almost broke, supporting two children, and hoping to get a faculty job with the Goddard College English Department. Professor Jay Knox is the one who decides who gets the job, but he's more interested in Deidre's body than her body of work.
Shortly after his advances are rejected, Knox turns up dead-with Deidre's fingerprints found on the murder weapon. Bailey Ruth knows her charge is innocent. Now, she must find out who really knocked off Knox if Deidre and her family are ever going to have a happy ending...

Reviews for Ghost to the Rescue
11 ratings3 reviews
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5The Bailey Ruth ghost series by Carolyn Hart is consistently delightful and funny. This time Bailey Ruth is dispatched to Adelaide, OK to inspire a single mother stuck with a bad case of writer's block and ends up defending her against murder charges.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5“Star light, star bright . . . .”When thirteen-year-old Katie Davenport makes a wish on a star, asking for help for her mom, it comes to the attention of Supervisor Wiggins in Heaven’s Department of Good Intentions. And he knows exactly who to send to help Deirdre Davenport: Bailey Ruth Raeburn, ghostly gumshoe extraordinaire . . . well, if you don’t count her tendency to contravene a few of those all-important Precepts whenever she’s dispatched to earth on a rescue mission.Deirdre Davenport, currently attending a writers’ conference, is struggling to support her two children, and is hoping to land a faculty position in the Goddard College English department to end her financial woes. When Jay Knox, the professor in charge of the conference, turns up dead, suspicion falls on Deirdre and soon she is implicated in the murder of a second conference attendee, who just happens to be the only other person being considered for the position she hopes to fill at the college.Bailey Ruth has her ethereal hands full trying to prove Deirdre’s innocence while tracking down the real culprit and doing everything possible to be an inspiring muse for Deirdre, who’s also suffering from a severe case of writer’s block . . . .“Ghost to the Rescue,” the latest installment of the Bailey Ruth Ghost novels, is an amusing, delightful treasure filled with believable characters, droll humor, and a healthy dose of panache. Will Bailey Ruth, in her inimitable fashion, find a way to complete her assignment and bring about a happy ending for Deirdre and her family before Wiggins demands she return from her earthly adventure? Twists and turns weave their way through this well-constructed, engrossing plot. As time grows short for both Bailey Ruth and Deirdre, the suspense deepens in this top-notch mystery that will keep the pages turning and the readers guessing right up to the big reveal. Highly recommended.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Bailey Ruth Raeburn is sent by Mr. Wiggins (head of Heaven’s Department of Good Intentions) to help Deirdre Davenport, divorced mother of two and struggling writer, overcome writer’s block. It seems like a pretty easy assignment and Mr. Wiggins expects her back on the next Rescue Express train. But that is not to be. While Bailey Ruth is just getting to know Deirdre, her young charge is suspected of murder. It seems that Deirdre is hoping to be selected as a new faculty member at Goddard College. The person who will be making the faculty appointment is Jay Knox and he’s interested in more than Deirdre’s writing style. Then he winds up dead at a writers’ conference Deirdre is attending. All this is happening in Adelaide, Oklahoma, Bailey Ruth’s old stomping grounds. Back when she was a live, that is. And our heroine has been back to Adelaide before on her missions from heaven – and she has gotten to know and like the local police chief. So Bailey Ruth commences investigating the murder and disobeying all of Mr. Wiggin’s rules for emissaries.Although I enjoyed this story – it’s lighthearted fun – I’m thinking that these stories are getting to be rather formulaic. That is one of the dangers of creating a series character who can’t really change. She’s dead, and isn’t about to evolve very much from what she is. So what can she do except magically change clothes, appear and disappear, move about in a heavenly way? And she can’t have a love interest (although she CAN flirt) because she has her hunky husband waiting for her back in heaven. Don’t get me wrong, I will read any future books in this series, but I have a feeling I won’t enjoy them nearly as much as I did in the early days when the magic was still there.
