About this audiobook
Laney McLeod's life changes the minute she finds herself stuck in a high-rise elevator in Manhattan. Fighting her rising panic, she relies on a handsome stranger to help overcome her claustrophobia. The man, Deke Sargent, is just as attracted to this beautiful and vulnerable woman as she is to him.
When the power comes back on, Deke and Laney find themselves in a passionate embrace that soon leads to a night of love in his apartment. Shocked at her own brazenness, Laney disappears the next morning. Months later, she receives an even greater shock: Deke shows up with an astounding announcement.
Unable to forget the chemistry between them, but afraid that she's just another notch on this wealthy playboy's bedpost, Laney is about to discover that her resistance to Deke hides an even deeper fear.
In Words of Silk Sandra Brown displays her uncanny grasp of the struggle between doubt and desire, caution and hope -- the quiet battle that rages deep within the human heart.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This is a fave of mine of Sandra Brown’s books. It’s sweet, sexy, just a bit dramatic and dated, but an altogether fun read.

A chance encounter in an elevator during a blackout changes the lives of two very different people. Naive kindergarten teacher, Laney McLeod and sexy and savvy attorney, Deke Sargeant, are complete strangers yet their intense attraction and its consequences bring them together, and they must decide if what they have is worth fighting for.
This is one of Brown's earlier works and while some elements are dated others still ring true even 30 years later.
While Laney and Deke have incredible chemistry, he is excessively domineering and overbearing, which is not surprising for an 80s romance but incongruent with 21st-century values of equality between the sexes. Nevertheless, Laney does stand up for herself and Deke ultimately recognizes that she has a right to make decisions for herself.
Overall, this is a well-written, relatively angst-free, and entertaining read. - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I can't understand why everyone disliked this book...I thought it was a cute, quick read. It is quite dated (Brassiere and manhood!), but I thought it flowed OK.
- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5I am very embaraased that I spent a few hours of my commute time listening to this book. Awful. absolutely awful. Lots of steamy sex, but a totally implausible plot and idiotic characters. I have never read Sandra Brown before and kept thinking "this has got to turn around, this has got to turn around". It did not. The worst.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Laney McLeod thought she was just visiting friends in New York when a sudden blackout in an elevator brought her face to face with destiny. Deke Sargent is an attorney with confidence. Used to going after what he wants, he's a ready and willing knight in shining armor to the frightened young lady trapped in the elevator with him. Letting down her defenses for once in her life, Laney allows Deke to comfort her and when she sneaks out the next morning she is sure she will never see him again. However, some mistakes have the greatest consequences as Laney discovers. This book was a pretty simple, contemporary romance about two people who meet in an odd way, but gradually come to understand each other. I thought Deke was a bit of an overbearing cad, and this impression grew during the time I read the book, so I can't say that I really liked him. The attitudes portrayed are a little bit dated, but that's understandable as this is an older story. Over all I thought it was an okay book but not one I'll read again.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5Not all that great, but a fast read.
