      Not at all in the league of earlier authored books. Waste of credit ?

      Good story but by the end I really didn't feel much towards any of the characters so it was a lackluster read for me. Not on the keep shelf and I should have picked it up from the library.

      There needed to have been more interaction with the main characters so I cared about them at all. Lane was out on weekly dates with someone but it was just a passing blurb (even that she was seeing the person as much as she did). As a reader I didn't discover any of this by reading about it (did she enjoy it or detest it) A few comments were sprinkled in the story to tell you it happened and what she thought about it. Not sure how to describe that any better but it was a big part of why I didn't enjoy it as much as I could have.

      Because of the above the ending was "slightly" surprising but I really didn't care. The wrap up at the end had the same feel - just commented on not in it with them. Sorry - I'm trying not to give any spoilers in this review to give any examples.

      This is definitely a one time read for me - Not a keeper.

      I am a huge fan of Mary Higgins Clark, I was a bit disappointed in the overall storyline of The Melody Lingers On. Very predictable and a little lackluster in the character development.

      Parker Bennett disappeared two years ago and the five billion dollar investment fund he managed vanished right along with him. Did he, fearing exposure, commit suicide? Or is he alive, living off the money he stole from his hard-working clients? The investors and the government would like an answer to that question and, if he is indeed alive, they want to see Parker Bennett brought to justice.Lane Harmon, assistant to upscale interior decorator Glady Harper, discovers her latest assignment is for the condominium of Anne Bennett, wife of the disgraced financier. She comes to admire the woman’s steadfast faith in her husband’s innocence, and soon finds herself drawn to Anne’s son, Eric. Although most people believe Eric was involved in Parker’s investment scheme, he steadfastly proclaims his innocence and is determined to prove that his father is not guilty. Lane seems to be alone in her belief that Eric was never involved in the investment scam and theft of the money but she believes the kind and gentle man she sees couldn’t possibly be part of such a deception. As they grow closer, her belief in his innocence remains unshakeable. But her growing friendship with Anne and Eric may be putting Lane, and her young daughter, in jeopardy.A quick read with a fairly predictable plot; astute readers will have this one figured out far in advance of the final reveal. Nevertheless, this entertaining tale engages the reader and keeps the pages turning.

      Mary Higgins Clark has done it again. She has written an excellent novel that shows that she really is a master of her craft. When a large sum of money goes missing and the man responsible is always missing, Lane Harmon gets caught in the middle. Will her life and the lives of those she loves be in danger? Clark keeps us on the edge of our seats and gives us that satisfactory ending which is her hallmark. A wonderful book.

      The melody lingers on by Clark_ Mary Higgins Lane Harmon an assistant interior designer in NYC with her daughter. She is a widower after one year of marriage, 2 months pregnant. Her boss, Gladdy and her went to a new clients house and realized not much of the help was left.The husband Parker Bennett has been missing for years, with the 5 billion he had stolen from clients. His wife and son, Eric are trying to prove he is innocent.She must keep her and her 4 year old daughter safe as she finds clues to his whereabouts. FBI were on Parker's trail and don't think he dove off his yacht and survived. Many others are brought together to console one another who've also lost their life savings.Love all the technical things going on in the case and liked the design work that is proposed. Such detailed descriptions, makes you feel like you are there.So many different angles and you think he will continue to get away with everything he's done....I received this book from National Library Service for my BARD (Braille Audio Reading Device).

      typical MHC brain candy, although I felt the ending was way too rushed and tied up nicely in a bow. I had a feeling that was going to happen when I realized how few pages were left.While I was initially confused by the number of characters, I came to find them well fleshed out and generally found myself rooting for all but Glady and Sylvie. The latter is one loose end I'd have preferred tied up, as well as Lane with her stepfather.

      Mary Higgins Clark has a distinctive style - beautiful people with a lot of money and even more beautiful people that either deserve money or had lost them meet and fall in love. A murder or 3 are somewhere in the equation and at the end of the story, all ends well for most of the good people and mostly badly for the bad guys. It rarely suits my mood but now and again, I like reading one of her books - they are an easy palate cleaner between more serious and darker novels. And usually Mary Higgins Clark manages to tell a story that may be stretching one's desire to overlook details but as a whole holds together. Which is why this one really made me mad. Years ago Parker Bennett died. Or so people believe - there had always been a suspicion that he escaped with the 5 billion dollars that disappeared from his company. He left a son and a wife, both under suspicion of course. And Lane Harmon, a widow with a young child falls madly for the son. And one day the father returns. And that is where the whole thing falls apart. He manages to build a new identity. He manages to find a new home on an island. What he does not take with him is the number of his bank account. And for 2 years, he had been hiding using a smaller bank account and finally decides to come and get the number of the big account. A man that manages to have a false ID that he even carried at all time(that someone sees but it takes a hypnosis to remember) somehow misses to keep the number of his account. He has a house, a life where people know him as his other identity long before he escapes and he somehow never gets the number of the account with him. Of course, if he had the number, the novel would have never been done. But... this whole thing is so far fetched and so impossible that I almost threw the book across the room. I finished it hoping that Clark somehow gets it to a normal story again - but no, this is what the whole story was hinging on. Early contender of the worst book of the year for me. I am usually ready to accept even non logical plots - as long as there is a glimpse of logic or common sense or even a hint of a thought behind the plot. That novel misses either.
