About this audiobook

Alan Watts discusses the word tathata, which is translated from the Sanskrit as "suchness" or "thusness." The term is used in Mahayana Buddhism to suggest how things look to a Buddha, to one who has experienced enlightenment or liberation and is, therefore, called a Tathagata - one who comes (and goes) thus. Watts shares the sense of this nonsense in Buddhist philosophy, and its practical demonstration in Zen.

Listening to Alan Watts is a rare privilege!

Brings me back to the 1960's when I could only "catch" small parts of his talks , by chance and on radio.
I want to listen to more.... and this was the second audiobook from SCRIBD/BetterLusten!

Much gratitude to Alan & whoever made his talks available!

The book is a series of lectures I enjoyed listening to. There’s good humour in there and nice analogies to help the understanding of Buddhism. The lecture format is nice as it leaves in the laughter and stuff, which I find more natural and quite calming to listen to.

I couldn’t give this more stars though because there is an instance where the time of recording shows, and a use of racist thoughts and words that might have been common then but are unacceptable now. Something to be aware of.

I will never forget what he said: the great purpose of life is just to be alive! One a kind

As always, Alan Watts gives several excellent lectures. The audio quality could be a little improved from time to time, which is why I am giving this title only 4 stars. But for content, 5 stars!
